Although I think the ps4 will probably end up the best console of the gen, I'd say the Wii U is probably currently the best (which is pathetic really), because at least it has a dozen or so worthwhile exclusives.
But yeah, the current state of video games is depressingly bad. e3 was just awful this year.

By the end of the gen this will be considered another golden era. PS3 was the only so-so one, seemed like japanese devs were dormant or didn't know what they were doing, but they are waking up for this gen, both the AA studios and the big guys.

The standards are also different. The games these days need to look pretty, be movie like, with story movie like, with characters that sometimes are real actors, but this in most games. When this doesn't happen it's a jrpg with "cute" characters, or a dark souls clone for western rpgs-action-family. Or indies.
In the PS2 era that kind of shit didn't matter THAT much, they were games like Okami, a ZoE, GoW, Maximo, etc and the games never took that much time or money to be developed

It might have, if PS4K wasn't going to be released so soon. Yes, they'll still support it, but you know support is going to gradually dissipate. You gotta remember that PS4 had around 3,000 or so games. In this day and age, that probably can't be achieved due to development being slower than it was.
