Owned by Hudson, which died and got its properties taken by Konami, who turn is slowly getting away from Video Games altogether.

Jenet in XI, from what I saw in the arcade I frequented back in the day was a bit of a team staple because she was pretty fucking strong. Not as common as KGO but she was pretty popular. Not the best gauge for her popularity though.

For a different reason, I checked out a bunch of super moves from across different fighting games, and holy fucking shit, does SF/Capcom take the cake on using that exact same shit the anon called out shitty super creators for. So many goddamn supers, especially in SF are just multi-hit normals or, as noted, multi-use/hit normal specials. I think the only time shit really got mixed up was in MvC, and not too far off from the originals, all things considered.

Sort of related, what got me into SNK was Fatal Fury and they'd have super moves which weren't just simply beefed up versions of their special attacks, like it'd probably use a same or similar animation, but the result wasn't just an EX version of the move, it was a completely different function. Like Terry's Power Geyser wasn't just multihit power wave, it was a giant explosion right in front of him instead that didn't travel out. Same thing with Kyo's Orochinagi when it used the stance animation for his yamibarai, but the hitbox and general function was different and that was fucking cooler than seeing something like a Shoryureppa or Shinkuu Hadoken.

I missed out on some of the older Street Fighter entries due to playing non-fighting games during that time, and worked my way back from MvC1 (I wasn't even aware of SF vs XMen or MvSF just because they weren't around in my arcade and I didn't have easy access to the net (hell, I thought that Marvel Super Heroes came AFTER MvC1)). Seeing some of the moves, particularly Shinku Hadoken, in their first iterations baffled the fuck out of me. Like when I first used S. Hadoken in MvC I thought "wow, this is badass!" then I used it in Super Street Fighter II Turbo and thought "wow, that's it?". Looking at it nowadays, I mean, I guess it makes sense since it was a "super combo", keyword being "combo". Thing is though, Fatal Fury 2 had its versions of Supers as early as 1992 (art of fighting 1 had them as well, but haoh shokoken is just a bigger ko'ouken all things considered). While I never played FF2 when it first came out, I think its supers had a bigger effect for the most part, for reasons that you mentioned and even those that were obvious upon using them.
