Power phials are a must in most cases unless you just want to cause all kinds of status which I'd only use if you're in a party.
Not sure if they brought back those stupid ass arc hots from 4U. But I usually go with Power. Rapid was the go to for 4U So I'm not sure how it's changed into X.

I can solo everything, ostogaroa takes a while but everything is so easy. I only had to use 3 aid meds against HR shagaru, solo. I take litrrally no dmg with bushido longsword, and i get to red so easily.

If you're with friends then of course they're gonna die fast but if you're doing something like solo gunning, making every shot count and speeding up fights are always a gift, especially with frail gunning armour that will lead to getting one shotted by certain attacks.

If your too close or too far away your shots do shit damage.
If your shots have a huge white flash and the screen shakes a little when your shot hits than you're at the right distance.
Charge level 1 (No charge) = 50% Damage multiplier
Charge level 2 (1 flash) = 100% Damage multiplier
Charge level 3 (2 flashes, highest on most bows) = 150% Damage multiplier
Charge level 4 (3 flashes, Highest level. almost always requires Loadup) 200% Damage multiplier
Rapid shots are your bread and butter because they're great for targeting a single spot or for minions.
Pierce shots go through and hit the monster multiple times and are amazing if your can get a good shot. (Head > Tail, Wing > body > wing, etc). Completely wrecks long monsters like plesioth. It's garbage on smaller monsters though.
Spread is great for applying status, but the fan shape makes it so you can't hit all the same spot on the monster without leaving the optimal distance. (unless of course you use the close range coating)
All the arc shots (except Power shot) are shit for the most part because your either gonna miss the monster and/or interupt your team mates. Power shot is a great follow up attack because it's a quick shot that fires at 1 level charge higher than the initial shot, just be sure to watch your stamina.

The biggest buffs to Switch Axe are returning a lot of Axe Mode's power back to it. The Hack 'n' Slash finisher is now three hits instead of one and totals 100 motion value, the overhead chop isn't as weenie pathetic as it was in 4U, and the upswing is better (which pairs well with the moveset improvements from 4U allowing you to upswing out of a roll).
The only thing I can think of that might be a detriment would be the fact that the finisher is so much stronger than the individual chops now that there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of point in using said individual chops unless there's a really long downtime.
Now, the thing about Switch Axe though is that pretty much all of its Hunter Arts focus on Sword Mode.

Sns has traditionally been one of the lowest dps weapons.
The buffs/nerfs were for the sake of hardcore balancr, rather than gameplay variety/enjoyment etc.
A few things to look out for:
Supercrit, a skill which doubles crit damage iirc. Either way it makes crit based builds very strong, the tempest naga armor provides it, and crit builds now are viable.
Blunt edge: lower sharpness increases damage taken, at the lowest sharpness u will have more true raw then highest sharpness normally. SnS benefited greatly from this since they have access to mind's eye coating, essentially meaning no drawbacks for low sharpness.
Handicraft got kinda nerfed i think, there is handi+1 and +2 now. And iirc handi+2 is as good or is spightly better than handi+1 from old games. The current handi+1 is very underwhelming
Long sword users got the long end of the stick as well, with the introduction of bushido, you cant charge to red normally, but if you git gud, u can dish out truly fearsome amounts of damage. I stay at red for 15+ mins at a time (hunts usually end by then, if they dont i could make it last longer). No more forced back to nothing aura thank god. Also, the hunter arts allow u to get easy auras as well. LS has become a true beast in skilled hands.
With bushido many weapons dont need any defensive skills anymore, evasion skills are defunct for bushido users, you can fully invest in offense

Only important seems to be that theres no customization for the bottom screen on the demo, from what I can see. I had to break out my old CPP because of no virtual d-pad option.

Jump into attacks. It's an Adept Style that isn't limited by needing ONLY attacks to activate.
Also it considerably changes how certain weapons play. Hammer for instance can double pound in the air and is good for shitting on flying monsters. Its level 3 also becomes a power-buffed upswing.

I played the demo and noticed that you activate these moves by the touch screen.
Is it only the touch screen? I imagined doing these moves with the buttons with combos or something. But doing it with the touch screen feels a lot less awesome.

There's a button combination I believe you can use in the demo for one of them.
But you can use a control scheme in the first game that lets you activate 1 of your arts with the R button.
