RE7 has everything the originals have except for fixed camera angles. The movement is slow and shitty, the puzzles, mystery, atmosphere, soundtrack and spooks are there, what the fuck more do you want? REmake.5? Walking simulators, by colloquial definition, are games with virtually no gameplay mechanics. Games like Gone Home can be considered these as their most prominent mechanics include activating or picking up items. RE7, by this definition, is not a walking simulator for it features several mechanics including item and resource management, weapons and combat, and obtusely intricate puzzles.

This, outside of Outbreak games you've always played some kind of elite cop, military person, someone with a skillset to survive such a situation. Honestly RE is alot bigger than just surviving the situation, average joe characters aren't going to to take on Neo-Umbrella or the main villain or change anything in the RE universe which is part of what the series is about.
You can survive this game but pretty much have no effect on the wider universe which is pretty lame, RE isn't SH its not nearly as grounded of a series characters are much more larger than life and important as far the universe is concerned.
