Back in my day, we didn't have an achievements page that told you what you had to do until you were finished experiencing the game. You just kinda fucked around and killed time because it's a game, it wasn't a thing you only played until you beat it then moved on.

I haven't experienced this in a long while, but I did a few days. In a game of Plants VS Zombies, I stalled the final zombie to prevent the end of the level with walnuts that I kept replanting, and slowly but gradually filled the garden with marigolds. Marigolds are flowers that spit out coins now and again. My plan was to farm coins forever in peace, while keeping the final zombie stalled forever, but I soon realized for whatever reason the marigolds wouldn't spit out coins any longer, the game probably knew what I was doing. Still, for no reason, I waited for the marigolds long cooldown each time and eventually filled every square of the garden grid with marigolds. I don't know why I did it, there was no point. My brother just got a job in a hotel and I'm not wearing pants.

I think the glitching out of the level was only possible with cape, since you'd be flipping blocks as well as destroying them, so you'd go off on some weird tangent and fall out through the wall. Never had a problem with getting stuck in the blocks though.
