Once great company now corrupted by greed.
>>
Gave the gift of knowlage to man

Curse to infinite deaths by esports
>>
got a monopoly and now they actively fuck over everyone and do literally nothing and make billions

companies need to stop using them as a platform for their games
>>
rich enough to not give a fuck
>>
>>341435258
Imagine /v/'s image of Neo-Blizzard. Now imagine Neo-Blizzard only updating Battle.net and adding Cash Shop Mounts in WoW.

Thats Modern Valve.
>>
>>341435258
More hats tbqh
>>
Mushrooms are the best pizza topping.
>>
>>341438587
You forgot to mention that when asked about new games they vaguely hint at it creating more hype around the game(s) so if it(they) ever release it will be a bigger let down than Nook Duckem
>>
They used to be an innovative game dev, maker of many beloved titles. Steam was a good solution to the DRM problem that benefited the consumer as well as publishers.

Nowadays, they've been engaging in some pretty shit business practices. It's one thing to stop make cosmetic cash shops the focus of your games, it's another to introduce gambling to minors via crates and keys.
>>
>>341439085
Fucking this, it's amazing when the media talks about "video game violence" instead of focusing on this degenerate shit. Valve is literally conditioning children to be their cash slaves
>>
They were great up until they rode TF2 into the fucking mud and realised they never had to make an original game ever again.
>>
Pretty much gone the way of Blizzard. Once produced gold but now are corrupted by greed. The HTC Vive is insulting.
>>
>>341435258
A pox on PC gaming. An unethical company that needs to be slapped down for flouting consumer protection laws and encouraging children to gamble.
>>
>>341442648
Are you kidding me?

Just imagine what would have happened if they didn't jump into the VR market...
FB would free to fuck up the entire market.

They literally saved the VR market.
>>
>>341443097
Saved it by making an overpriced piece of hardware that isn't compatible with rooms that don't meet it's requirements and nauseating with unoptimized games that are FB game tier priced at $30+?
>>
>>341443378
>I have no idea what i'm talking about
>>
>>341443097
No, they saved nothing. People would have then consolidated behind OSVR, the actually open VR headset and SDK rather than Valve's intentionally misleading OpenVR.
>>
>>341443475
What fucking reason is there to own a Vive? For games where you stand in-place and shoot things or games where you point and click to move?

What fucking makes this worth almost a thousand dollars?
>>
>>341435258
NOT VIDEO GAMES
>>
>>341443613
Vive has the same functions as Oculus and then some.
>>
>>341435258
Fallen from grace
>>
>>341443701
But the Oculus is cheaper.
>>
>>341443475
He's wrong about the room requirements, technically (although practically if you don't have the space it's stupid to get the Vive), but he's entirely right about the games being shitty and overpriced. Just because there are a few diamonds in the pile of shit they call their VR launch lineup doesn't make it worth it.
>>
>>341443780
Because it has less functions

They should stop letting cheaters win major tournaments.
>>
1) introducing paid mods to skyrim was their idea, i hate them

2) the games they make are really cheaply made and never grandiose or innovative
>>
They try to pinch a dime out of anything they can
>>
>>341443972
I'll give you 1, but you're clearly underage if you think 2
>>
>>341443954
Are the wii tier functions of the Vive really worth the money? Are on-rail shooters really much more fun with a VR headset or something?
Why not just sit at a keyboard and play a game with freedom of movement?
>>
>>341443701
Except for ATW. Vive uses the same shitty reprojection the PSVR and everyone rightfully laughed that, but it's ok when Valve does it apparently. It's also far inferior for displaying text. It has all the features, they just aren't implemented as well.
>>
They have so much money these days that they've just become fat and lazy. It would be nice if they just released Half Life 3 already, but we know that ain't happening.
>>
>>341444060
I'm not here to sell you the Vive, just explaining why it's more expensive
>>
>>341444052
half life 1 and 2 were over a decade ago. everything they do now is just some cheapo mod-turned-retail game or a cheaply made remake of a 20 years old game
>>
>>341444187
half life 1 was a cheapo mod-turned-retail game, anon

as I said, underage
>>
>>341444060
>Are the wii tier functions of the Vive really worth the money?
They aren't, yet. Not enough actual games. And Oculus will have those same functions coming later, only optional so you aren't forced to buy them. Even Ars Technica which has been pretty anti-Oculus says that Oculus has better hand controllers.
>>
>>341444164
I understand why, but it's just not worth the money. There's no game that makes me want to buy all the extra stuff the Vive has.

Is it innovative? Sure, but technology that tried to be innovative has also flopped in the past. I mean if people don't buy one, what's going to drive developers to make games for it?
>>
>>341444381
>There's no game that makes me want to buy all the extra stuff the Vive has.
The Vive can play every VR game. Don't think in terms of exclusives.
>>
>>341444246
Would you really call Half Life 1 a Quake mod then?

>>
>>341444438
But not every VR game utilizes the motion controls.
>>
>>341444459
If you're going to call Dota 2 a Warcraft mod, of course.
>>
steam mashine flopped
steam controller flopped
steam os flopped
vive is going to flop

valve sure is on a roll
>>
>>341435258
The fallen hero of gaming. They were pioneers back in late 90s-early 2000s and now they are a bunch of greddy fucks who sell keys, hats and cases to autistic manchildren over the internet.
>>
>>341444538
And not every 3DS game uses 3D to a real degree.

That said, Vive is automatically better because of the lack of DRM. It wins mostly by default. I agree if something like Oculus but with no DRM came out it'd be the thing to buy.

>>341444550
Steam machines didn't flop, Valve didn't spend any money on them.

Steam controllers were commercially successful, I think they sold half a million.

Steam OS did flop.

They still make money off the Steam store and all their games like Dota 2, Team Fortress 2 and CS;GO. That shit failing is like a mosquito bite.

They made Citizen Kane and since then they've been rather greedy.

But that's understandable since they're a business and a business should make money.
>>
>>341445247
Monetizing mods is fucking insanity.

Valve wants to get money from mods (that valve didn't make) for games that valve didn't make without providing any new service or benefit than what we already have.. They just sit back and try to rig the industry so more and more and more money funnels into them.

Well, they're great and all because of Steam making shit cheaper for all, but really. There was a time when I would laugh at people who tell me Valve isn't interested in making video games anymore, and call them shitposters.

Now, I'm not so sure. They only care about Steambox (flop), or the Steam Controller (I think only few people bought it so it might be a flop), or Steam VR.

I'm starting to think they might never make games anymore.

I love the effort the developers put into the NPCs behavior in order to make them feel like living beings instead of random lumps of meat who are there to attack you. I wonder what we could be seeing nowadays if more developers payed this amount of attention to detail. For me a great game is in the details.
