No it's not you knob jockey. Every game's story is self-contained, but Nintendo's own material said that A Link to the Past was a prequel to Legend of Zelda. Ocarina of Time was in turn a prequel to A Link to the Past, and ends with Ganondorf sealed and vowing vengeance on Link and Zelda's descendants. Wind Waker was very explicit about its connection to a previous game, which confused the issue because Ocarina was prequel.

Despite the Koroks, I find trouble in seeing it in WW's timeline. From what little we have of the plot now, I think it is either Zelda 3 or and Imprisoning War adaption.

Well if go for the idea of this being Hyrule not long before flooding, then that would mean the Koroks would have to be rewritten as having evolved before the flood instead of after. They'd also have to rewrite as BotW events being the legend WW's opening is speaking of instead of OoT.
Resurfaced Hyrule that is underpopulated can work, however the Old Man's comments about the Plateu don't give off that implication to me. He seems to imply more that modern day Hyrulians just don't care about history. The Doomed hero timeline seems legit since we know for a fact that ALTTP was a prequel to the first two and ALBW goes after it. If we assume Oracles and Awakening are an after venture and then a dream by ALTTP Link were fine there. But its bullshit that this falls under some non canon timeline were Hero of Time lost but Ganon was still defeated, this wing is simply its own thing.
OoT splitting into MM and WW also seems legit, except it seems highly random for 4SA to be after TP, seems more like the three Vaati games should all be their own thing as well.

Link awakens and finds the slate, a remnant of the sheikah's ancient advanced technology (like the things we see in skyward sword later). He uses this to verify himself as the Goddess' chosen one at the various sheikah shrines littered across the land, some of which have guardians outside to test Link's courage. As Link progresses and meets with more of the sheikah who wait for him, he collects more spirit (of the hero) orbs.
Also, the first sheikah you encounter mentions that their duty is to help those who seek to defeat Ganon. Not sure where this fits in with the whole Demise curse.

Except that there was no timeline split in WW.
The only timeline split that happened ever in Zelda was when Link in OoT traveled 10 years through time.
If any other timeline was created it would have been in SS, because that Link also traveled through time near the end of the game.

But I will tell you that the game probably is during the War of the Bound Chest. What exactly all those oni things that Vaati released were is one of the few things that Nintendo has yet to answer. And they were released in a cyclone, like a Calamity... Also, that explains why Zelda isn't in the game. Why everyone is gone (they evacuated), and finally, why the Sheikah are still around.
