The main protagonist usually gets the most spotlight and pussy; what are some support characters who are great or even BETTER than than the main character.
I'll start:
Dom from Gears of War 1/2/3
Now before you start the shit about him crying about his wife all the time, you gotta put everything about him in context:
>Fought in the Pendulum Wars as a Commando.
>His brother died in the Pendulum Wars.
>Testified at Marcus court-martial so he wouldn't be executed.
>His two kids died on E-Day.
>Separated his wife on E-Day.
>Busts his best friend out of prison, saving his life.
>Hears rumors from the Stranded that she's been seen.
>Keeps hoping to find her.
>Finds her but she's more or less brain dead.
>Can't let her live like this so he euthanizes her himself.
>Keeps fighting.
>Grows food to keep the remaining survivors alive.
>Sacrifices himself to save his comrades.

The nigga was trying to find ways to off himself. They literally had to pull this out of their ass to end Dom as some kind of hero.
I liked Dom, but there are other cool supporting characters. Garrus and Wrex from mass effect come to mind. Sergeant Johnson from Halo was pretty awesome, not exactly a companion type character though
