The first months of WW1 were pretty much a one on one between France and the much better equiped and vastly more populated Germany and even toward the end of the war when Britain could line up just as many men, three quarters of the front line was held by France.

WWII, probably. Russians often had female pilots and crewman in vehicles but infantry wise they were often snipers which operated in small units. Women are obviously smaller so were able to fit into better vantage positions and required less food to maintain themselves whilst away from supply lines so they made fantastic reconnaissance and sniping teams.

Although the French had some shortcomings regarding the lack of radio and modern airplanes, the German military wasn't nearly as good as people make it out to be.
The whole breakthrough at Sedan was sheer luck, they precisely attacked the point where France had its worst divisions while the bulk of the force was in Belgium with the Brits. Pure roll of dice on the German part, they might have been smashed there.
The French lines only broke open because of miss communitcation with command back at Paris and could have easily closed the gap cutting Rommels' force from the rest of the army.

The treaty was humiliating for the Germans but only because somehow they believed they could have won the war and only did us a favor and thought the Entente would forgive them for the amount of death, suffering, destruction the Germans caused.

They lost 10% of their land mass, big fucking deal. The regions they lost were barely populated by Germans, had no industry and no ressources. France was given control of some German coal mines for a time but only because the Germans didn't pull out of France without blowing up all the French mines in the area.
Compared to that in the Treaty of Frankfurt after the Franco Prussian war, which was a far less bloody conflict. France had to pay five billion francs within five years which they did, lost two of their wealthiest regions in the east 1,447,000 hectares of land, 1,597,000 inhabitants and 20% of its mining and steel potential.

Sure, the Germans lost a ton of troops when attempting to invade Russia, but most of that lost was due to poorly supplied troops in winter dying from the elements rather than Russian fire.
