So then does Breath of The Wild take place in the wind waker timeline?
>>
>>341325782
Probably really fucking far in, remember in WW when you had to go plant seeds around the islands and they said that it turns them into more land? This is all probably the result of that.
>>
>>341325782
What says it has anything to do with the wind waker time line?

We don't rightfully know what a deku shrub looks like in the Failed hero time line (the Zelda 1 and 2 path)
>>
>>341326243
Doesnt really mean anything. How would there be the castle and temple there?

Though seeing koroks is odd. Same as SS ChuChus
>>
>>341327097
>How would there be the castle and temple there?
People built them of course.

>>
>>341327097
If you actually played the WW line then you'd know they abandoned old Hyrule and rebuilt.
>>
>>341327219
So its a Hyrule that rose on the old one and fell again?

I find it odd they already confirmed Ganon for villian without even showing him.
>>
>>341327527
I'm just speculating, but I'd assume so. Hyrule gets fucked over a lot.
>>
>>341325782
It takes place in the Zelda is a dead franchise timeline
>>
Rusted Master Sword makes me think it has to be long after any of the mainline 3D games. If the Kokiri evolved into the Koroks in one timeline, I don't see why they couldn't in another.
I'm placing my bets on before Zelda 1, because the Master Sword isn't even in that game.
>>
>>341327489
That was Spirit Tracks Hyrul,e
>>
>>341325782

Who cares?
>>
Not sure if it does OP since they showed wolf link.

I think this whole game is the aftermath of all man.
>>
nah, they know we will wreck our brains around the continuity and they are just sipping sake and raffing their asses off
>>
>>341327489
so what happened to the old hyrule they abandoned
>>
It's Ocarina of time 500-1000 years into the future.

The old man you meet at the start of the game is Ganondorf, who has wiped out most of the people in Hyrule except for himself, and is left now to wander it's decimated carcass knowing that he could never give his people the land they wanted

I hope
>>

The Master Sword is a broken rusted mess in the opening title. I'm assuming this is, if the timeline is being taken into account (which it never fucking should be, EVER) then it could be the latest in said timeline.

>>
>>341334895
Agreed. Kokiri can easily have become the Korok for reasons besides the flood in other timelines.
>>
>>341334473
Show me the third timeline in the ending to Ocarina of Time.

Show me something is not by definition a retcon. In case I have to explain it to you, that means it's not canon.

Unless this game shows a flashback to Link getting impaled by Ganon, it's not canon to it wither.
>>
>>341327998
>The old man you meet at the start of the game is Ganondorf
>Implying he's not the king of Hyrule.
>>
>>341325782
Timeline doesn't matter when there are TWO links in the same timeline because of amibos. If anything, it has to be somehow after twilight princess.
>>
Didn't link leave the master sword to drown along with ganon and hyrule at the end of WW? It would make sense then that this is the same land resurfaced ages and ages later and that's the same master sword being rusted for staying underwater so long (hyrule was sealed from the waters during ww so it wouldn't have rusted)
>>
There is no proof whatsoever that koroks do not exist in a state of quantum flux between timelines.

Then the sages come and try to buttfuck ganon.

>zelda

Nigga what.

The sages seal ganon, then Alttp happens.
>>
I hope this game has no ganon. He is canonically dead at the end of each timeline at this point, having this take place at the farthest point in the timeline and have a final showdown with Demise would be a nice way to bookend the series but it will never happen
>>
>>341336949
Don't the triforce of power plus demise's curse give Ganon immortaly or some shit?

>>341335770

The Sages and Ganon are never mentioned in the same context in ALttP. You would know this if either of you actually played the game.

They sealed the forces arising from the Dark Realm after Ganon perverted it. Yes, like OoT. But Ganon was not IN the Dark Realm.

It's a tie-in. It's actually kind of a post-apocalyptic Zelda, the world has ended and the few living beings left are all spirits of the past. The old mand is Ganondorf, since he literally will always come back to life. The game is about Link trying to get to the Master Sword, which is the single thing holding the dead Huryle in piece. Ganondorf will help Link as the old man, he just simply hopes to be able to finally rest. Zelda is the last boss, all her incarnations formed a goddess and she caused the world to end. All those machines are made by her and they're one of the instrument which caused the world to end.

between phantom hourglass and spirit tracks for sure
>>
>>341337876
The only time he actually reincarnates is in FsA though, he is the same ganon in every other game (split between multiple timelines of course)
We also never see the human form of Ganon in FsA so for all we know he could even be radically different before turning into a pig.
I don't really like the curse of Demise since it removes agency from Ganon as a villain making him a lot less threatening but eh.

that's putting a lot of faith in nintendo even attempting to write a plot twist into a game. The old man looks like the king of hyrule, so he's definetly going to be the king of hyrule.
>>
>>341338331
Lol you're retarded.

"The wise men and the Knights Of Hyrule combined forces to wage war on this evil horde. The Knights took the full brunt of the fierce attack, and although they fought courageously many a brave soul was lost that day, However, their lives were not lost in vain, for they bought precious time for the Seven Wise Men to magically seal Ganon in the Golden land. All of Hyrule rejoiced at the victory that upheld peace and order over Ganon's evil and chaos."

Ocarina of Time's final boss isn't the Imprisoning War
>>
>>341338592
>A. Hyrule is "decaying", whereas it should be gone if it was after Wind Waker

After it's unflooded.
The ground is eroded and rounded from the flow of waters.
The land is unpopulated and wild because the people left.

>B. Ganon is alive
Demise or just magic nigga, Ganon can be anywhere anywhen.

>C. Koroks don't prove its in the Wind Waker timeline. Kokiri could have transformed into them in other timelines as well.
Their evolutionary specialization like the Rito, is the result of adapting to the flooded world.
The Rito adapted to fly over the water.
The Koroks adapted to live with the tree and spread its seeds to regrow the world.

I have mixed feeling about the Demise thing, but I think it at least makes Ganon a bit more sympathetic. Is he literally the hate curse incarnated? Or did the curse enter him at birth, making him cruel, greedy and dangerously unstable? Either way, the guy was destined to be the villain.

Going by the master sword placement I would guess the original timeline. Child timeline is also possible because Link left the sword in the woods then as well. I think there's some deliberate resemblance to the one in ALttP/ALBW though. Also the setting of a declined Hyrule and the "decline" label used in the (albeit translated) historia.
>>
>>341339572
>The Koroks adapted to live with the tree and spread its seeds to regrow the world.

Hyrule seems to be in a rough time in this game, maybe the Koroks need to grow new Deku trees for a different reason.

I think wind waker made a better job of making him sympathetic. His land was shit and wanted a better life for him and his people. Though yeah, I guess seeing it that way makes it better.
>>341340501
The pedestal in alttp/albw is the same as the one in OoT, it's just that the temple crumbled and woods grew around it eventually. TP shows the beginning of that process.

>>341341487
that's fair
I don't know though
I think they're only bad with science
like Zoras evolving into birds and in who knows how little time
but the fact that they're using Boko Sticks from the Boko Babas in Wind Waker as opposed to Deku Sticks from Deku Babas makes me think they're establishing that it's in the Adult Timeline
in regards to the master sword placement, I think they're just aware that the Master Sword looks the best when it's in a serene outside garden area, like in Twilight Princess, Link to the Past and Link Between Worlds
Sacred Grove just looks a lot fucking better than inside a temple. Also what >>341341157 said
if I had to guess where the Master Sword is now
I'd say maybe Ganondorf broke the seal once the land was pushed up and he's confirmed to be in this game, since Miyamoto mentioned how you can even fight him, whilst naked.
I'm guessing someone probably just put it in a pedestal or maybe it's at the ruins of Ganon's Tower. Ganondorf isn't back and someone smashed up his stone body and fashioned a pedestal out of his rock solid corpse

>>341342925
kek

>>341342725
hope somebody can get a source for this, because that sounds great. The idea of the story not being so apparent this time around makes more room for gameplay. >>
>>341337624
>>341338040
How does this prove anything?
>>
>>341325782
Yes
>The Koroks were once the human-shaped Kokiri, but when Hyrule was transformed into the Great Sea, they took on a more plant-like appearance. The Great Deku Tree says in the game, "Once upon a time, long ago, the Koroks took on human forms, but when they came to live on the sea, they took these shapes."

IE they evolved when hyrule was flooded, then wind waker happened and now it isn't flooded anymore
>>
>>341333778
YES. I almost forgot about the rito. So fucking pumped to see them again
>>
>>341325782
It's definitely the end of one of the timelines, but Koroks could easily surface after TP

I doubt the Zelda team even remembers where they came from
>>
>>341343482
It doesn't, I just think they're interesting.

The presence of Koroks though means it absolutely HAS to be after Windwaker since the transformation of the Koroks and Rito are adaptations to a flooded Hyrule.
>>
>>341343636

Maybe it is explained, we don't know yet. It's not like they never did anything similar though. The whole destiny shit in SS cheapens the efforts of every character in every game a bit as well in my opinion.
Though the fact that the master sword is rusted, it being placed in a random spot in the woods (the pedestal in alttp and albw is the same as the one in the temple of time, it just gets ruined with time and surrounded by the woods as shown in TP. We see the ruins of the ToT in this game, so the sword is definetly placed in a different spot), the existance of creatures originated by the flood, the fact that the world is in ruins all point out to this being unflooded hyrule. Not saying it's 100% certain but it's the safest bet at this point.

>>341325782
we'll have to wait for further confirmation. Koroks could easily just be a newly added race to any of the other timelines. WW timeline leaves Hyrule to form New Hyrule so any gameplay we see here assuming it's within the WW timeline would have to be set in the far future.

Ganon being an established character and not something being teased or alluded to makes me think this is the fallen timeline or the young link timeline both in their most possible futures.
>>
>>341346213
Why? It just needs a vague introduction like WW. People who played the previous games can piece it together and people who never did will be content with the context given. In WW, it was quite inconsequential that adult link once showed up from the past to defeat ganon once and then disappeared, but people who played OoT obviously recognized him as the protagonist from that game. All this game needs to do is mention a huge cataclysm in ages past and the land starting to recover and there you go.

Honestly, the Korok's presence in the game is a mystery in itself. We know that the Kokiri only evolved into the Korok after the great flood, which eliminates a potential prequel to WW, but then there's also the fact that the original Hyrule is flooded forever in the titles after it, eliminating this game as a potential sequel to it either. The Temple of Time never got rebuilt in the new Hyrule.

Even with this in mind, there is an odd timeline possibility from what we have in mind. This mural in TPHD clearly shows rito despite them not even existing prior to that in said timeline. What this could mean for this game is unsure, but it does prove that Aonuma can pull pretty much anything no matter which timeline it takes place in.

Whenever you travel backwards in time and change something you create a new timeline, which is the only reason why a split is allowed to happen at the end of OoT in the first place. In theory there could be more than one "Hero is defeated" timelines depending on how often Link time travels, but they would all turn out effectively the same.
>>
>>341346849
That's true, but that's just as hard to explain as to why races from wind waker, which all originated along with the flood, exist in this land. Either the reincarnation cycle is not tied to direct lineage (which would make sense since, in the failure timeline, link dies without having any heir and yet he resurrects anyway a few generations later) or they just moved back for whatever reason during the millennia (colonizing a new land that was starting to come up from the waters, for example)

My prediction: Old man is Ganondorf after aging on his own for decades/centuries/millenia and somehow has become wiser and watched as old hyrule fell and nature took over the kingdom.

He sees Link come out of the resurrection chamber (which oddly enough reminded me more of the DOOM intro, sans Rip and Tear) and realizes something is affoot.

Turns oit in the end Link has a choice and can side with Ganondorf to protect the natural world or side with Zelda and ressurrect a fallen empire. Siding with one makes the other the final big bad villain.

I think his appearance could go either way, really. Even the shape of the beard is more reminiscent of the king, but the eyes and skin tone (assuming the fire's reflection hasn't totally warped it) are closer to Ganon.

>>
Did anybody notice the deceased Great Deku Tree outside that temple?
>>
I believe the old man is Ganondorf. His skin tone and his nose aside, the reason he cannot be the King of Red Lions is that the King drowned.

He didn't transform into a boat to save himself, he wasn't wrapped in a bubble like Link and Zelda were. He just stood there and disappeared in the flood as the water crashed down upon him, dying along with what was left of his kindgom. He didn't speak another word when the water came, either. He drowned.

Meanwhile, Ganondorf was locked in stone and is generally more immortal and powerful. He might have awakened one day, after the water had long receded, and began wandering the long-lost Hyrule that had now resurfaced.

I would also like to point out how WW Gandondorf longs for the winds that stroked the green of old Hyrule, and the name of this game is BREATH of the Wild.

What is the antecedent of "it's" in your post?

>>341349356
>>341349540
Zelda theory bullshit time?

It could be a simple easter egg, but it does seem to have significance.

One assumption you could start with is that each panel shows a subsequent period in time.

The Goron and the Triforce could represent a pre-SS time, the gorons being made of rock and probably the oldest race. It would explain why the Triforce is there. Link might represent humans, smaller than the Goddess. And the tall man could be Demise.

The last panel shows a time closest to TP, with TP Zora and the Oocca.

So then the "Rito" panel would be somewhere between SS and TP. It could be showing a time when the surface kingdom and sky people still had a connection (as the dominion rod and TP lore describe). If I wasn't so fond of the idea that the tadtones become the Zora, it could be that the Zora and Oocca have a common ancestor in the sky citizens. The sky folk would either be the people that remained on skyloft, their loftwings, or some fusion of the two.

Now I don't really like the common ancestor idea I'm putting forth because then the Goron panel is unrelated to the 'evolution' idea, but since the Zora got turned into the Rito somehow it could be that the bird form was just dormant in their DNA like how you can make chickens grow teeth and scales.

At the very least, it does make it seem like the Oocca once looked like Ritos.

Maybe this Link is an artificial creature created by the people of pre-flood Hyrule to fight Ganondorf in the Adult timeline. They might not have been able to finish him in time before Hyrule was sealed away under the sea, so he was lost and forgotten.

Now, many thousand years later, he is finally activated/given life to stave off a wholly different evil.
>>
>>341351941
The King of Red Lions might not be "alive" enough to drown, though. He isn't as powerful as Ganondorf, but we've seen him do weird shit like posses a boat for 90% of the game- he's a spiritual being, like the sages, not a physical one.
>>
I'm pretty sure this is in the Failure Timeline. Between the constant references they keep making to the original Zelda - specifically that both games share a "ruined Hyrule" - and that something like this doesn't really fit in with any other place in the timeline, it seems to make the most sense. It doesn't make sense that it takes place after WW, given how that game ended and what we know Link and Tetra did afterwards. The trailer for this game shows the Master Sword in the Sacred Grove (as it is in the Failure and Child timelines): how did it get there from Ganon's skull? It wasn't even in the Sacred Grove in WW anyway. And why would Link and Zelda's descendants abandon their new kingdom and go back to chill in the ruins of the old one, even if it did dry up?

The Korok are a bit of a head-scratcher, but we never saw what became of the Kokiri in the Failure Timeline, so it's possible they took the same form as they did in the Adult TImeline. We see a pictures of Makar in A Link Between Worlds, but most people dismissed that as a reference that didn't mean anything. Maybe there've been Korok in the Failure Timeline this whole time?

I'm not sure what to feel about the trailer I saw. It feels like it tried to emulate every other open world game, and in most of them, the open world part is shit.

The effort required to make each and every part interesting is gargantuan in a game world of that size so it's almost always fucking nothing. Which is why I prefer smaller worlds where each level is incredibly detailed. I hope I'm wrong with this.
>>
Why do people talk shit about the Zelda timeline? I think it's really awesome how fans were able to connect together each of the games well enough that Nintendo actually made it canon.

For the 100th time,
>It's comfirmed towns and villages will be in the game. They are not in the e3 demo because, of reasons.
>Shrines =\= dungeons. Dungeons will also be in the game, and can be completed in any order.

That said, I think this will be a retelling of Zelda 1. They continously discussed the elements they borrowed from the first game. They wanted Link to view Hyrule from a clifftop like in the pic, and someone even mentioned that you can see the same twin peaks that are in the artwork. Also, I think the large black structure with the swirling red aura is Ganon's Castle.

Right, but what I'm saying is that ALttP's Link's wish undid Ganondorf's taking over of the Sacred Realm, which doesn't happen in either the Childhood or Adult timelines, by changing something that'd have that Link not fall in battle i.e. making him an adult before he fights Ganondorf. It's not that Link dying as a kid using the Master Sword creates a timeline split.

The voice in the E3 demo tells Link that he's been sleeping for a century, while the Old Man tells him that Hyrule Castle has acted as a seal for "Calamity Ganon" for the same amount of time. The Old Man seems to know that Link is the hero, the voice strongly implies it, while the Sheikah monks outright say it: I really don't think we're looking at a "fake Link" here. He was probably somehow involved with Calamity Ganon's defeat a century prior, and was put in-stasis to return when they predicted Ganon would regain his power. Maybe he was mortally wounded or killed or whatever, but he's still the actual chosen hero. Being a 'clone Link' is so out of the scope of anything we've seen before in Zelda and doesn't really make sense, while being the re-animated corpse of the Hero of Time similarly makes no sense and contradicts a lot, especially considering he doesn't have the right hair or hand-dominance to be the HoT.

I don't think the Old Man is Ganon, either. Skin and eye color aside, he's way too short and his facial features are too soft and rounded: Ganon's always been very angular with well-defined features. I wouldn't be surprised if he's Gerudo, but I don't see him being Ganondorf himself.

Kokiri were always forst spirits, them looking like Hylians was for child Link's benefit.

Their korok forms let them soar on the winds like leaves, seeds, and pollen can. Seems pretty useful to me. I mean Goron are rocks, Zoras are fish, doesn't it make sense for the forest creatures/spirits to be something more woodland related than Hylian children?

Gorons didn't change because their deity didn't change them. There's actually a lot of mystery with WW gorons. Did Valoo tell them to fuck off? Did they leave on their own to search out larger landmasses?

It's another Split in the Timeline:

At the end of Wind Waker, when the King touches the Triforce, the results are Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks.

But if Ganondorf succeeds and touches the Triforce, resulting in resurfacing Hyrule, Breath of the Wild happens.

So like how the Hero of Time was either successful or defeated, now the Hero of Winds was either successful or defeated.
>>
>>341357861
>them looking like Hylians was for child Link's benefit.
This angle makes no fucking sense. Why make the kokiri look like hylians for Link's comfort if you're just going to make him a fairyless pariah anyway? Seriously stop with this shit it's totally baseless.
>>
>>341358129

Probably gonna be the classical Master sword hunt.

I'd assume the MS would be indestructible, but like in a lot of other zelda game not the strongest ( Biggoron, Fairy, Gilded, etc etc.)

They also showed that weapon can have modifier that increases stats liek damage, so i suspect there's gonna be a way to add those, probably some blacksmiths character
>>

The only problem with that theory is that the Hero of Winds is blond. This Link is brown haired.
>>
>>341357629
I'm not sure how many details you want. Emptiness is a valid argument given that there is little point to a big world if it has nothing interesting in it. Adding "muh" to a word doesn't somehow make something not an argument. I saw plenty of open space, and there was nothing of particular interest in it. That's all there is to it. If that is not a valid argument for you, be my guest and enjoy it.

I even said that it feels like it tried to emulate other open world games, I'm not immediately writing it off or saying the game will be bad. That was simply the impression I got, and I'm not going to shit on a game from a 3 minute video.

but that's irrelevant. This Link doesn't need to be a descendant. Hell, of all the Links in any Zeldas, this one is the most derivative.

Link in BotW has also been asleep for over a century. Perhaps even asleep while Hyrule was still underwater, and therefore awake during Ganon breaking his seal.

Here's my theory.

Let's assume it's the WW timeline.
And you are playing in the old Hyrule unflooded.
When the world unflooded, people obvious went to see what was down there.
Of course, a fuck ton of years passed, so the technology evolved and they had robots and shits.
And a new hyrule was created with said technology.
But when they were working on the vestige of old Hyrume, they then discovered Dorf as a statue with the Master sword in its head.
Some idiot decide to pick up the sword which free Dorf.
A shit ton of things happens, Dorf destroy everything, but the lineage of link died age ago.
Then some sages hide the master sword from Ganon in the sacred forest.
Then with the help of their technology they create a clone of old link (dunno which one tho) with the ADN of Link on the master sword.
Which is why he wake up in that strange futurist cave.

It occurs approximately 30 centuries after the events of Wind Waker.

After Link and Tetra left the old Hyrule to find a new one, the Koroks followed through with their responsibility to revive the "old" Hyrule.

As the centuries pass, descendants of all the islanders who resided within the Great Sea develop their own history as the newly revived Hyrule regains prominence once again. The Sheikah also develop new technology to help sustain and protect Hyrule.

However, one century before the start of BotW, the evil power once sealed away by the Hero of Winds resurfaces as the Master Sword's power weakens over time. This power, known as Calamity Ganon, attempts to take over Hyrule and eventually succeeds, taking over Hyrule Castle and the Sheikah's technology. The hero of this game is put into a century-long stasis by the Sheikah in order to escape the destruction that Calamity Ganon wrought.

Cue the beginning of the game, in which Link awakens once again to stop Calamity Ganon and save Hyrule.
