The combat at the beginning of the original God of War games was insultingly simple but by the end of the games you could pull off some crazy stuff.

I only played GoW 1-3, and I while I thought the gameplay was pretty boring, the visual design and mythology behind it were what kept me playing. If this is exploring Norse mythology, I see no problem in what they showed, considering combat imo was always GoW's weakest aspect. They barely showed anything though, and I don't really like the idea of an over the shoulder camera, I'll still probably play the game just cause of the mythology

That's true, God of War was never amazing, but the fighting sequences were definitely video gamey and they weren't hidden in between endless walking and cinematic scriptathons. If you watched the fight sequences for the god of war reboot, the gameplay has been butchered. You smack the monster a few times and then a cutscene immediately happens.
When old God of War cutscenes ended, the gameplay began.
When new God of War cutscenes end, the gameplay is indistinguishable from the cutscenes. It's just boring, awful, moviegame bullshit. I want some game with my game. Some real gameplay that isn't interrupted every two seconds by a short in-game cutscene.

Trailers and Demo's, especially those showcased in large events like E3, have a job to show the general feel and look of the product.
If what you are presenting to the consumer's is that the game will be highly cinematic, slow paced and story focused then that's the reputation you are trying to give it.
Granted it's more then possible that the demo could be lying, we have seen this time and time again, but it's usually over exaggerating the graphics and technological capability of a game or just story elements then gameplay ones.

That's not how it works. The tutorial sequences of the other games threw your right into the action fighting endless enemies. No endless walking, no moviegame bullshit, and the combat was actual combat, not just cinematic boringess.
The video they showed us is definitely indicative of how the game is. Kratos is always going to be slow, always on the ground, the gameplay is always going to be the watered down moviegame shit we saw in the trailer.
