Not only are people stealing mods from the fallout nexus and uploading them to bethesda's

Thread replies: 524

Not only are people stealing mods from the fallout nexus and uploading them to bethesda's mod site without creator consent (and in the process offering zero support and causing consoles to overheat/shut down), it has also started a massive wave of console owners begging for mods on the nexus, usually getting indignant and violently hostile when told that a mod cannot or will not be made available for consoles. Making threats towards content creators for not being able to make mods that change core game files available on the XBOX/PS4 is now an everyday occurrence.

Not sure whether to laugh or lament, what do you think?

I'm very worried about what will happen to Skyrim modding when the Special Edition is released and these people move in on that community as well. There's enough time for Bethesda to do something, but they probably won't.

What exactly could Bethesda do?

How do you prove the mod is your own when you upload it? The files are all available freely, always on a trust basis. Its never been attempted to try and directly police it.

>>
>>341315826
They could at least put some kind of notice on Bethesda.net that says not all mods will automatically work on consoles and that you need to be careful. It might at least reduce the hostility hurled at mod creators for not having magic Q powers.

Not give consolekids mods, since they aren't mature or responsible enough to be part of the modding community, steal and take credit for other people's work and brick their systems through stupidity.

Bethesda needs to protect them from themselves.
>>
>>341314547
Most mods now force F4SE to prevent mod theft from console users because of their behavior. If they want mods, they should make their own or simply don't behave like total retards.

I've downloaded hundreds of the shit mods that get thrown around the mod menu. It's the same shit every time. Most mods are barely compatible with each other, and managing more than 5 mods is a hassle.

Honestly wish the people begging on the Nexus, badgering content creators, and outright stealing mods would hang. I hate being associated with them. Bethesda really dropped the ball when it came to implementation. This could have been handled by sticking someone on QC, at least to stop the bitching from console players and the slew of low quality mods.

>>
>>341321457
Its not simply an issue of stupidity, but of failure to manage expectations. Bethesda promised mods would "just work" and don't even offer a disclaimer advising that some "just won't work".
I think there needs to be some explanations offered, but yes, some console gamers are being little shits about it.

I think the problem that will arise is that, people make mods firstly because they would like the mod to exist for their own use. The people who are savvy enough to make mods, are likely going to be playing on a PC. There might be a small percentage of modders who want to be able to use the mod on console but I think it would be a very small minority

So, why would someone go through extra work, for free, for something that doesn't benefit themselves? Again, a very small minority might be generous and do mods for consoles, if it's easy.

I think console mods should exist, for console exclusive games. That way people have a reason to want to create the console mod; they can't play it on PC.
>>
>>341323842

I mean maybe the console aren't being melted, but I heard some mods can screw up your saves and people are complaining to the original authors instead of the people who stole and uploaded an incompatible mod

What's wrong with paid mods? I'm not trying to bait, I just can't think of any downsides for making mods paid if you're a modder. You make something and put a pricetag on it, isn't that normal.
>>
>>341321985
They stole this idea from Valve.

The problem is that an honest performance, or environment mod will either be hella expensive or be put on the same range as lazy skin recolors. People would try to exploit retards, like in Minecraft, and try to divide mods into pieces or launch "item collections", with a lower quality than actual mods.

Not to mention many mods work on top of each other.

I am quite fond of the modding community, and I think they deserve some remuneration, but I don't see the way to do so without fucking shit up.

I'd rather have them Bethesda pay them directly for their effort, and have what they consider to be the best of the best realeased in a DLC collection. After all, it is is them who are fixing their shitty games.

Nope. Some Fallout 4 mods have already been released which were EXPLICITLY LABELED as incompatible with PS4 and Xbox One.

PS4/Xbox One users stole these mods, uploaded them to Bethnet, and tagged them as PS4/Xbox One compatible.

They stayed up for several days until Bethesda removed them because they corrupted save files.
>>
>>341325328
Yeah i agree, there's hundreds if not thousands of modders that enjoy giving people content for free just for the sake of making something they like better, why should a perfectly organized community get destroyed by crybabies that only want what they can't have? This shit makes me sad.
>>
>>341325391
Because modding has always been a community effort free of charge and available to anyone. Putting it behind a paywall would be similar to a scenario where Wikipedia goes behind a paywall, or Linux, or Sourceforge, stuff like that. You could do it but it would be a huge middle finger to everyone that mods and provides services to others to do their own modding.

>>341325792
Exactly.
How hard was to go to nexus, see what's popular, contact the creators, offer them either money or exclusive Fallout or Skyrim stuff, and then have that translated to PC?

It would be easy to pay them in crap or clams, and release that as a DLC packae on consoles.

The winners get anything from a shirt, to signed stuff, and the creator of the best mod gets a trip to Bethesda Studios.

Then again the Beth Studio with this sort of perspective resides in a reality where Obsidian is working on another Fallout title.

It comes down to motivation. The whole point of this thread is how shitty console players have been towards content creators. The console players see the creators as lazy, or elitist, for not transferring every single one of their mods into the tight constraints of a console environment. 98% of mods come with the disclaimer "I don't have an Xbox One, please email/message me about any bugs you encounter". The people bringing mods over are people that play primarily on PC. They don't have to cater to consoles at all, but they choose to bring these mods over.

Now, we're not talking about grand mods. Big, or otherwise expansive mods are still exclusive to the PC. What the Xbox has been getting is small changes, items, and basically cheats.

>>341325327
I would. Since I play on both naturally, and Bethesda games are ALWAYS on sale on Steam, I have no real reason not to. Having experience making mods, there's a big disconnect (both on PC and these new Console players) between creators and users. People seem to forget that people don't sit at home and mod all day, or want to cater to their every demand, or go back to older mods and fix compatibility with newer ones. It's a lot of work for people that have to work to pay the bills.

So, now we've turned a fun hobby into free expansion packs, because nobody ever had the will to sit down and set how things were going to work on this integration. Hell, I think the problem started with paid mods.

It enables developers like bethesda to allow bugged, half assed games to be patched by modders and to get paid for nothing.

I think also because modding has always been free. With the option of donations.Imagine theres a river that everyone crosses using the same bridge, now imagine one day someone decides everyone should pay him(bethesda/valve) to cross the bridge why would you want to?
Also it screams of entitlement whats wrong with the way things have always been done?People will just pirate mods.
>>
Bethesda contacted me about the paid mods fiasco on steam because I had made a retexture pack for a popular Skyrim mod.

They wanted to sell my mod and I would get a few cents for it while they got about 1½ dollar or so for every download. I told them no, of course, and pointed out that you'd have to download another mod for mine to even work and they replied that it wasn't going to be an issue, since said mod would eventually become a paid mod too.

Not to mention that mods for Bethesda games often have such a tangled web of interdependencies that one paid mod might require five others, bumping up costs to ridiculous levels. Then there's the fact that not all mods will work with each other, and even when they can work together, you often have to manage them yourself to make things work right. That's unacceptable for a paid product.

Another piratefag here.

It's still more convenient to download a pirated copy than buy / refund repeatedly. The only reason not to pirate is if the dev updates often enough to make re-downloading a chore or if online content and play is exclusive to paying users or the most recent version.

There's no morality issue. If the dev blocks me from pirating, I'll buy / refund to try it out, but I'll probably dislike it more because of the inconvenience.

It's very easy to make endlessly looping scripts with Bethesda's modding tools.

Consoles can't handle arbitrary logic very well, so you just need to spam some useless, expensive commands in realtime (AI updates on a bunch of characters, for example).
Better yet, design it with virus-like behavior that only triggers on specific days or X minutes after the character visits as a certain location.

Want to hear a cool loophole? Make a mod that's made of seperate plugins. One has all your own assets, this you put behind a paywall. The other only has Bethesda ones, this you release for free. Both mods require each other. Want to obfuscate it even more? Have all your assets in a zip file that you need to purchase, then create or find a program that takes everything in it and bashes it all together into a mod that you can use.

How it works is simple, usually mods put up extra energy on the console to run the extra capacity, all i need to do is break over the limit that mod creators usually avoid, pushing it to melt the heatsink of the console just because the skin mod forces the limit to a dangerous level.

im sure this will get me banned but ill just create a dummy account for practice

All i need to know is how do i make the mod accessible to console

Any mod that doesn't require a script extender can work on consoles.
This means you could make a mod that replaces all in-game assets with renamed duplicates, and any save that fails to load that mod will result in the entire world being a void of nothing.

Since consoles don't have access to the dev console, undoing it would require a specialized mod to be made.

I don't know about Skyrim or Fallout 4, but for New Vegas there were functions you could use to write values to an external value. If those still exist, it wouldn't be that hard I'd think to start writing invalid data that corrupts the hard drive, or starts creating a file that takes up the whole disk.

This makes no fucking sense, if no one cared you would not be able to identify it as elitism; this is solely done for the pupose of making yourself feel better than someone else over some trite difference.

Couldn't you just take say, the M14 or the Ak47 mod and change it so that whenever you fire it every bullet spawns 6 dozen feral ghouls or something? Then change the loot tables so every single raider spawns with a fully automatic one.

Call it like, "AK47- Console Special Edition" or something. The second the user gets into a fight with any raider enemies at all, suddenly hundreds and hundreds of ferals and the game just hard-crashes. For additional amusement, take one of the massively increased spawns mods and mix it in, so the first time they get near like... the Corevega factory they suddenly have 30 raiders to deal with and all of THEM are spawning all these things and on and on.

I mean, it is just a thought.

>What's wrong with paid mods?
Modding compatibility is a real shitshow

To get patches/mods working together you need to give everyone access to the mods in order to test and fix them. There's also a big culture of improving/fixing other people's mods which would vanish without permission

Look at skyui, that's an essential mod so hundreds other mods are designed around it. If it was behind a paywall you wouldn't see all the mods using skyui to be as good as they are

Modding is a collaborative effort and the moment it isn't it'll die. The only mod scene that's ever existed largely behind paywalls is sexmods for the original sims and that was early enough in the internet for those paid access communities to grow

Most mods don't actually require F4SE though. In fact, many of the top mods or the mods you use don't either. It's pretty easy to do things without it. In fact, F4SE is kind of limited right now. There are approximately TWO mods that use F4SE right now that are of any worth, and that's Place Anywhere and the mod that re-enables achievements.

Every feature in a new Beth game comes from mods or things people.
People modded iron sights into 3 so they included them in NV. People loved Turbo in NV so Jet slows time in 4. People modded dual-wielding into Oblivion so you can do the same thing in Skyrim. People bitched about Divine Intervention/Silt Strider/walking in Morrowind so you can fast travel since Oblivion.
>>
>>341335103
With Oblivion you could assign any value (even garbage ones) to a variable that get's written to an external file with some function.
With Skyrim, if it doesn't have that, you can use SKSE to print garbage to the console then have another mod print console output to a file.

>It's actually an audio-video recording of the human mating ritual

>The Receiver is pale, with long yellowish fur on top. They have multiple orifices, one of which is used for both speech and reproduction (which is unbelievable), although only three are used: the Speechhole (SH), the Bottomhole-1 (Front) and Bottomhole-2 (Back).
>The SH seems most used. It is seemingly used for preparing and "wetting" the Givers for reproduction, along with swallowing their reproductive juices.
>BH-1 is in surrounded by meatflaps in a ellipse shape. It is the second most
>BH-2 is circular, and least used. It's usually used in combination with another Giver using BH-1, and sometimes the BH-2.

>The Giver are dark, ranging from near-pitch black to shades of brown, have little to no hair on top, and have a tentacle that excretes white opaque juices

>When the ritual begins, the Receiver usually suckles on one or more tentacle of the Givers, and pulls on the others with her grabbers
>Then, various Givers will penetrate her orifices in various positions, one of which is most peculiar of them all; one Giver lies on his back, while the Receiver straddles it and is penetrated in Bottomhole-1 which then suckles on another tentacle with her Speechhole and pulls on two more tentacles (one with each hand) and the final one penetrates her Bottomhole-2

>After which, the Givers' tentacle pump their fluids out; it seems that it's one for each used orifice and two to cover the Receivers' body and face

>It seems a very complicated ritual; a Receiver thus needs 5 Givers, swallow the reproductive juices, have their skin covered with it and have it in the two BH, yet sadly this is all we have on the inhabitants of SOL-3's primary (or sole) intelligent species

>The original disc is still in the Museum of Xenostudies on our homeworld, it is inscribed with the signs "P e t i t e T i n a D o e s E b o n y G a n g b a n g"

Personally don't care much but he seems to really halfass it, and it might make someone planning to make say, an M1 Garand mod go, "oh someone already made one, I won't bother then".

Wont work, Blizzard tried to charge for custom games in sc2 and they had to quickly abandon the concept when it killed the casual multiplayer scene (and therefore sc2 as a whole).

>>341344586
Just play the games in their vanilla state.

When you run into something you don't like, there will be a mod to fix it.

When you wonder if something could be added, there will be a mod to add it.

When you want some new equipment, there will be a mod that will match your tastes.

When you get tired of the games, there will be mods to overhaul them.

I had my mods offered to be translated.
Never really cared, just gave them green light and linked to them on my Nexus description page of the mod.
Wouldn't have mattered to me if they hadn't, but it's nice that someone finds your mods good enough to translate.

They translated it, so they can reap the credits of it as long as they link back and put me as original Author and not monetize it (I do ask they disable/don't enable the "Ask for donations" when pressing the download button; if anyone bothers donating then it's all theirs instead of asking for donations on something you solely translated).

English isn't my native language either anon, so I can understand their trabbu.

Fur is commonly referred as a thick coat of hair, but I get what you're coming from. By "fur on her head" I thus meant her head-hair.
Technicalities can thus be confused between languages and between people/cultures.

Nobody says "human fur", but nobody says "a dog's hair" instead of fur either (commonly).

We're both right.

What's important to remember here is that the console peasants are genuinely being entitled little brats. You can't disagree here, and the reason is simple. They contribute nothing.

Consoles don't have mod tools, they aren't going to buy the game for PC to get the creation kit, so they aren't going to ever create anything themselves. They just beg and demand, like true leeches.

Even I have made a couple of texture fixes and replacers for my own sake and uploaded them to the nexus for others to enjoy. No console user will ever give anything back to the community they are making demands of.

I fixed Lust by changing a script, it was still using some old tokens for cecking if the player was pregnant so I just changed those
I'll still remove it because I hate how it just attaches a model onto a character's breast to simulate inflation
Sexout sex literally just adds a dialog to NPCs used to initiate sex. I mainly use it for testing but I kept it because it can be useful sometimes
Didn't know about Spunk and Lust, I thought they were supposed to work with each other
Intimacy turns the game into a dating sim, you can develop relationships with almost every character in the game, it's a new mod and it's getting updated regularly but at this point it's just a grind fest and not really worth it.
