Kratos also had lightning effects, and his axe returned to him when he wanted it to, both of which also allude to Thor. Norse mythology has a lot of mythic weapons and items though so they could be their own thing. The white stag is a sort of generic trope of an uncatchable hunt and has some significance to Celtic/Arthurian myth, but as far as I know not Norse. Trolls are probably just that, and the big guy was probably a Jotun (giant). There are some dragons but they're usually named characters in myth: Níðhöggr sits at the base of the world tree gnawing at the roots and eating damned souls, Fafnir was an exceptionally greedy Dwarf who became a dragon to protect his treasures and cursed ring, and Jörmungandr is a giant world-encircling sea serpent.

It is amazing true but I had two problems with it.
First is that the really large boss fights weren't that challenging since they had really large reads on their attacks. Also on some fights the camera pulls out so far while you are fighting normal sized enemies that it really becomes hard to tell what you are doing. I'm not entirely sold on this over the shoulder perspective since it reminds me of DmC but It could be good.

Seems to me there's lots of reasons to assume they are large. The titans are basically the big , encapsulating elements like Gaia is the earth, Ouranos the sky. They were large enough to keep the olympians inside of them etc.

Odin hanged himself to get power over death. He is more of a god of generals and kings than warriors but people still prayed him for victory.
He is sort of dick though and sometimes snatches his chosen from the battlefield to his personal army leading to a defeat of one side.
The big thing is that most gods have a fated lore in Ragnarok and resurrection before that is sorta cheap. Kratos would either have to bring about the Ragnarok as ordained or fuck it up leading to end of the world without hope of new beginning.
At least he has lot of people to fight as everyone and their mother was some sort of warrior.

It is not open world but the levels are open. I doubt they are all as free as the forest level, if you go fight in for example dwarven mines you are probably gated by many more enemies and have less empty space to explore.
