What the hell got Kratos to mellow out, stop killing everything he sees, and stay sane enough to start a family?
I'm happy for the guy, but he seemed like a uncurable ball of rage and death last time we saw him.

There were 3 years between 2 and 3, and 3 years between 3 and Ascension. Ascension came out in 2013. Since the new one looks completely different style-wise from the rest of the series, it would have taken longer to make. I would ultimately guess at a late 2017 release, next E3 showing gameplay from somewhere around the middle of the game maybe.

Where do people get the idea that TLOU had shittons of QTE's? I've played through that game like five times on various difficulties, and the only QTE I remember were in the open stage of the game where you kick out the car window.
I think there's one when you're grabbed by anything but a Clicker or Bloater. And one at the end of the Winter Stage to grab the machete. If you count the prompts to do stealth chokes/object melee/shiv then they're a regular part of gameplay. But it's not like Resident Evil's modern entries where you have to press buttons in sequence to live through interactive cutscene sections.
In fact, TLOU had nothing in the way of interactivity in the cutscenes. There's a few "walk and talk" sections that introduce the seasons, but at no point are there on-screen prompts to do shit during a scripted section that you can fail. When you say QTE I think of the part in RE5 where the guys come at you on motorcycles and you have to press the right shit to not die.

That's not how TLOU went, though. Ellie was actually super helpful in combat. When you first give her a rifle, she's actually a pretty excellent shot for a goddamned NPC. A couple times she shot molotovs that enemies were holding and burned them. She'll also knife baddies and peg them with objects to open them up for melee.
In fact, you don't see any real protective, fatherly traits in Joel until Winter, which is about the third quarter of the game. And in that chapter, you don't even get to protect her, she's already solved her problem by the time you get to her, Joel just comforts her in the end-of-chapter cutscene because she's freaking out. He literally doesn't act like a protective Dad until the very last chapter because he's let his emotional guard get worn down over the course of a year.
Ellie went from liability, to teammate, to daughter. She didn't start as helpless daughter.

I hate to say this as a console player, but, the reason is consoles. They experimented with Ellie being able to set off NPC alert, but they couldn't get NPCs to stop acting like NPCs.
I believe they changed some of this up in Grounded mode, but I haven't gone back to play Grounded yet so IDK what the real scope of it is. I actually did play some of the game in that mode, and the AI are much, much bigger assholes. However, I don't know if Ellie can trigger them.
I stopped sneaking completely in my second playthrough anyway. Joel is an ambush predator, not Snake. Sprinting around shooting the place up and beating ass is the best way to get through Survival.
