What I got from the trailer is that this is more of a reboot of the series. Since they more or less let the story of Resident Evil get completely out of control. It is at least for me almost as stupid has a long winded shonen anime. But as far as mechanics goes,I feel it has always been solid with a few mishaps with the later games becoming more action oriented and focusing on co-op.
I think this is the best way to sort of taking back to the ground. I think that is what they meant as the roots. Which is more horror than action. So in movie terms, the RE games have been more and more about action ala Aliens. This is Capcom chance to take it back and make it more about tension and atmosphere like Alien.
