Is this game any good?

I've never played an atelier game before but I like classic turn based RPGs
>>
GUST game.

No wonder Amazon Prime members can still get the preorder discount. Same goes for the fancy schmancy Odin Sphere version.
>>
>>341240942
>I like classic turn based RPGs
Then you'll have even more reason to avoid this mess. The new Star Ocean comes out at the end of this month, and Fairy Fencer F comes out at the end of next month.
>>
>>341240942
It depends on what you're really looking for. Atelier games don't have an epic story line where you go out and save the world from an evil god or something. You mainly gather stuff, craft stuff and beat some monsters up for their materials. And then you help out townsfolk and the book to regain her memories. It also looks like complete fucking shit most of the time since they put all their money into other stuff.
>>
>>341240942
Yes its great
>>
>>341238732
We need more "Cute" anon.

Please help.
I'm at the recipe which asks you to "Make friends with artisans." and the meter is stuck at 82 and hasn't moved in days.
How the fuck do I progress?

>>

It probably means their friendship level. Just gift them some stuff by pressing square when talking to them. Also the guy at the bar sells you rumours on what people like.

I just beat the final boss and have no clue where to find these enemies to unlock some recipes, namely a Dvorak, Light Elemental and Dark Maiden. Also, is there anything capable of wiping the party once you setup a Breezy Aroma with the Full of Life trait? This seems to be super OP.
>>
>>341241678
Usually the goal of atelier games is to create the most broken fucking shit and still only being able to barely defeat postgame bosses. Are you playing on normal?
>>
>>341241257
The floral outfit is the cutest one I got so far. Got it by putting points towards cute and brave.

Started out on Normal because I quickly ran into enemies with health pools half the amount the final boss has and that would wipe my party in one turn with no chance of escape. Once I got a good Bomb I turned it back to Despair difficulty.

>>
>>341242337
>>
>>341242405
You tell me.
>>
>>341242405
First item you make in the game is an Adventurer's medicine. A child using Google Translate could work that one out.

They translated it as "Burg medicine".

I only watched a stream out of mild curiosity, but if they can fuck up literally the first item you encounter in the game, I can hardly imagine how bad the rest of it is.
>>
>>341242405
I did not notice any mistakes in spelling or grammar, and I'm well deep into the postgame. The translation when playing with JP voices seems to be spot on. My Japanese is not outstanding, but I'd say the translation does not at any point deviate from the original script.

Depends on whether you played Rorona Plus or the original. If you've played the original, all gameplay mechanics have been polished a ton and it's immensely more enjoyable. Rorona Plus differs about as much, the systems have been completely overhauled from the original. It's difficult to say how much actual difference there is in the way the game is played, since this is a series based around the same formula with slight differences between each installment. It's a very niche series with dedicated fans who just want more alchemy and comfy gameplay.

No. I've played every neptunia game except PP and I can say without a doubt that atelier is closer to being an actual game. Unique assets and engaging gameplay that actually changes noticably alone brings it ahead by a wide margin. CH is ridiculously lazy and the games are terribly braindead. The only thing they have going for them are tsukano's art and the character interactions, but there are a million better series for that

I cannot fathom why people still fall for nep shit. I could accept liking VII but anything else is just abysmal

Relatively. It's not terribly deep, but maximizing and combining materials and properties to use for further synthesis in certain games takes a fair amount of effort

>>341257802

Yeah sure. If you ignore traits, effects, quality, elements and cauldron bonuses.

Getting the right mixture of these on items can take ages. If you're playing on a harder mode or doing optional content, you can end up combining hundreds of items in a specific way just to make a new piece of equipment and you got to do this 4 times per character.

alright, so the plachta customization looks really cool, the art design is god tier as always, but I got some concerns still.

>only played 1 atelier game before, forget which one, but it was for PS3 and it had that time limit in it
>remember 99% of the fucking game was crappy ass menus, just like hyperdimension shitfest
>as a result the game REAKED of fucking low quality, low budget garbage that didn't deserve to be considered an actual game, let alone cost full price
>recently got ar nosurge since the art design always really interested me, start playing it, same fucking shit as nepnep, no actual exploration, "game world" is just one massive assortment of menus, incredibly stiff animations, VAST majority of the game is VNs with still fucking images

I really hate VNs, I think they're fucking cancer and that the nips are SERIOUSLY holding back storytelling in games due to their cheap as fuck methods of game development like VNs and menu based "exploration".

But I want to like this game, this thread has me pretty fucking interested. Is there any chance I would like this game or would I absolutely hate it due to the nip-infused coating of no budget garbage that makes up all weeb games.

Deepness implies there is a lot to learn about the thing, not just dumb grinding for lots of basic materials so you can make one item that's better than the same item if you did less grinding.

Except there is a lot to learn, and when making an item you have to balance like 8 different attributes and figure out how best to maximise what you specifically want out of the item.

It doesn't even take long to grind for any items in this game (you can get hundreds of any item you want in minutes). The hard part is figuring out how to use the items you've got to make the item you want. Which can take hours.

That's the thing, you are complaining for a hilariously stupid reason. The idea is, for every 5 pieces of ore you pick up, one might be high quality and have good attributes. This isn't hours of grinding, harvesting items takes a few seconds. You have items that increase the rate or rare items too.

The idea is, high-quality items with good skills make better stuff.

You could use a C-Rank item with a trait that isn't relevant, or an A-Rank item with Quality+ and Attack Up, which isn't even hard to get.

>>341264709

You are literally ignoring the entire alchemy system because "you have to grind".

Once you have the items you want (that take no time to grind because you get thousands an hour) you still need to understand the various systems in play.
You need to pick the right items, the right cauldron, use the items in the right position at the right time and get the correct bonuses. And you might need to do this several times over to make the item you actually want, along the way you need to plot the course of items you'll make with the attributes you want so you can combine them correctly.

It's not like Demon's Souls where once you get the material you press a button and it is used. There is an entire system you're purposely ignoring for some reason.
>>
>>341266083
Why not have attributed be added by crafting, rather than being forced to grind for items with the attributes so they can be passed on through crafting?
>>
>>341265702
>Forgetting that items have a limited pool of traits and that high-quality items have multiple traits so it is pathetically easy to get them
>Most of the games also have systems or items that allow you to harvest rare items easily

Hell, in later games like EschaLogy and Sophie rare items are ridiculously easy to not only find, but to collect en masse.

EschaLogy has items and equipment that can increase rare item harvests that STACK, so stack all of them ad you literally find nothing but A-Rank items with Quality Plus, Four-God Abilities and Perpetual Motion.
>>
>>341266563
Because then you might as well throw the whole game away, it's no longer even alchemy. If you can make magical swords from a lump of iron in the ground, it makes the materials worthless.

If you can fashion a sword with fire damage, lifesteal and a speed boost just like that, where's the challenge or the creativity? You aren't using what's available to you to work with, everything is handed to you on a silver platter.

You don't NEED to minmax and make amazing weapons early-game, you know, you will get a better weapon recipe 2-3 hours in-game. That's postgame stuff.
>>
>>341267306
No, I mean use crafting to further improve your materials (or make materials) with desired attributes.
>>
>>341267636
It's the way it's always been done. Tons of other games already do it the other way. The whole idea with Atelier games is that you need to make do with what you have on hand due to the imposing time limit.
>>
>>341266563

Because you add the attributes you want by crafting. Then you take the new items with these attributes you wanted, and make them into something else with attributes you want. Then you repeat this any number of times until you make the final item you wanted. That is literally how the system works.

Seriously, you should at least youtube a video or something on how the system works, because you've done nothing but complain about absolutely nothing.
>>
>>341267636
That's basically taking away the gameplay if you can use anything to upgrade anything, you could just mash the best materials into the best equipment and win the game without even trying.
>>
>>341264634

>>
>>341268609
Are you trying to tell me that grinding for materials with specific attributes is "trying"?
>>
>>341269154

You barely grind since items are handed out in mass quantities. On top of that, the best attributes in the game have to be made through alchemy.

Literally, either go play the game (or read up on it) or just stop posting. You have no idea what the fuck you're even talking about anymore.
>>
>>341269154
>Grinding

I don't get it though, how do you grind for materials in Atelier? Have you ever played one? You go through an area and harvest stuff, a nice amount of the stuff you harvest is good for making other stuff.

Again, you don't need to craft an infinite-use full-HP area healing potion that buffs your defence and speed and heals MP just to fight an early game boss.

If you need a +150 damage sword with sharpness, defense debuff and lifesteal to deal with random level 5 enemies, you might be inept.

>>341269154
You don't even know what you are talking about anymore. You don't even grind for materials, simply going to a single area and can net you up to 10-20 items. Harvest points give 2-4 items at each point.

What the fuck do you even need 20 A-Rank Ores with perfect attributes and traits for anyway?

Two to three pieces of ore is all you need to smith multiple Ingots used for making weapons.
>>
>>341244309
Play anything after Echa then, they ditch the time limit.
>>
>>341270075

More like a harvesting point gives you 2-10 items, there is several in an area and hey respawn rapidly anyway.

On top of that, once you have an item with the perfect attributes, you can either make this into other items with the same attributes (so you turn one item into 3, then 3 into 9 and so on), or you can just duplicate it for a small fee.

The guy clearly hasn't played any Atelier game before and just has no idea what he is talking about.

>>341270830

You don't need to grind for materials. The only "grinding" you do is creating new items with alchemy.

I'm not really sure if using the alchemy system (the core feature of the game) would be considered grinding though. It's not like you're doing the same thing over and over again to get better, you're just performing a long sequence of item creations.
>>
>>341271271
Protip: If you ever find yourself trying to get a certain material, at all, even if it only takes a minute to get, it's grinding.

You act as if it's hard. Have you even played an Atelier game before? Hell, play Escha and Logy, you can quadruple your rare item acquisition rate and harvest nothing but rare items. And this can easily be done at the halfway point in the game. 2/3rds way into the game you can make an infinite-use healing item that revives dead party members the second they die, and it buffs all of their stats on revival. You can also make weapons that deal 5 damage types at the same time with a rare item that is incredibly easy to find since early in the game, you create an item that allows you to find rare items easily.

I don't get why you are so obsessed with making the most powerful stuff, you might as well hack the game and make everyone max level, there would be no difficulty.

>>
>>341272335

If you want to get good at Chess you need to grind an absolute shit load. Like longer than any video game you've ever played.

Just look at some of the best chess players in the world. They dedicate most of their life to the game. Not only are they playing it for hours a day, but they're studying it and the theory and strategy behind it.
And then, these people invent new strategies of their own which future generations will learn and use and from that develop their own strategies and so on.

It's not unreasonable to say the current pro Chess players we have now are literally the result of centuries of grinding.
>>
>>341271851
People are calling Atelier's crafting deep because of the effort that goes into making the best items in the game. That's why I'm focusing on crafting the best items in the game. Obviously, anyone could half-ass the crafting and just make mediocre items, but that's not the point of this argument.

>>341272512

I don't understand you at all. I recently finished Atelier Ayesha and I beat the final boss with a bunch of cheap C-Rank bombs, it was slightly challenging and a few times my party was in trouble. It was really fun to make do with my crap items and come out victorious.

When I played Escha & Logy, the game threw tons of rare materials at me. I made ridiculously powerful bombs of Escha and blitzes for Logy and ridiculously powerful infinite-use auto-use healing items that didn't take a turn to use, and wiped the floor with the final boss easily, there was no excitement or sense of danger.

>People are calling Atelier's crafting deep because of the effort that goes into making the best items in the game. That's why I'm focusing on crafting the best items in the game.

Anon, stop tyring to pretend to know about the game. Rule #1 of Atelier is "Reach postgame, then work on best weapons".

How the fuck are you going to make the best weapons with iron ore and tree branches from the starting areas?

>Obviously, anyone could half-ass the crafting and just make mediocre items, but that's not the point of this argument

You want to start out the game with godly equipment and weapons that one-shot everything? Why even play the game?

One of the early posts in this argument was telling me about how they spent hours upon hours crafting optimal items to use in Hard Mode. I didn't make this up.

Where are you even getting these ideas? Nowhere did I say you need to make the best items in order to clear the story. Hell, I never said you needed to make the best items. I'm just saying that the path to making the best items is not deep at all.

No one ever claimed it to be though. It can be pretty tedious too.

The crafting is the fun part. Making ultimate equipment is satisfying, but you need a ton of money and rare materials, and only necessary for postgame super bosses.

>how they spent hours upon hours crafting optimal items to use in Hard Mode
You simply do not understand the pleasures of indulging in your autism for hours on end to nail your ideal item.

Hard Mode is a self-imposed challenge, and Atelier Hard Modes are fucking brutal. It's his issue if he wants to do it.

You can't treat the base game the same way just because hard mode is really hard.

But I said that lots of money and rare materials are needed to make them, what's the problem?

Anon, let me be blunt with you. IT'S NOT OUR FUCKING PROBLEM IF YOU WANT TO ONE-SHOT EVERYTHING IN THE GAME, AND IT'S NOT NECESSARY.

No one is saying that it isn't time consuming to make ultimate gear. But it's not necessary unless you want to beat the secret bosses.
>>
>>341277447
I never said you need to make the best items. They're just saying that if you do, the path to make them is long, and therefore the crafting is deep.

Yeah, I'm getting a headache talking to you, I'm leaving.

I reread the thread and so far people said the crafting system is "deep" because you can mix and match materials for different effects. The only one going on about ultimate equipment is you.

Maybe you shouldn't skim through posts then and actually read them.

Where the hell is that black shiny "PuniPuni" from the request? The only marked area in my worldmap is Moon Sun Moor and I can't find it there
