I'm interested. I like stuff that seems relatively normal yet unnerving with sinister undertones, and this gives that vibe, although it's less an undertone and pretty blatant.

As a side note, are there any games or even books/movies that start off normal but give off that feeling that somethings not right, before shit goes down?

The Matrix could afford this moral ambiguity since that was THE core concept of the 2h 16 original film; 'we happy few' (hopefully) has more going on, and (hopefully) a run time greater than 136 min.

But that line, from Henry V, is meant to show solidarity in one's purpose, and one's willingness to risk life and limb for a cause greater than themselves. Drug-fueled escapism is hardly tantamount to duty, death, and glory.

>This day is called the feast of Crispian:
>He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
>Will stand a tip-toe when the day is named,
>And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
>He that shall live this day, and see old age,
>Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
>And say 'To-morrow is Saint Crispian:'
>Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars.
>And say 'These wounds I had on Crispin's day.'
>Old men forget: yet all shall be forgot,
>But he'll remember with advantages
>What feats he did that day: then shall our names.
>Familiar in his mouth as household words
>Harry the king, Bedford and Exeter,
>Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester,
>Be in their flowing cups freshly remember'd.
>This story shall the good man teach his son;
>And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
>From this day to the ending of the world,
>But we in it shall be remember'd;
>We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
>For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
>Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
>This day shall gentle his condition:
>And gentlemen in England now a-bed
>Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
>And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
>That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.

They managed to make the pinata "twist" both completely predictable and lacking any actual impact whatsoever. It's supposed to be a shock scene yet almost everything contradicts that: The gore is almost nonexistent despite being a scripted scene in a rated M game, the color palette has basically no contrast further removing visual detail from it, and there's almost no contribution by the audio whatsoever. It screams "we want to make a spooky scene but not too spooky for all the underage children that we're counting on to buy the game".

>The game is set in the fictional retro-futuristic dystopia Wellington Wells, England in the year 1964 after an alternate-history World War II; in the game's version, Germany successfully commenced Operation Sealion and invaded England. To thwart the invasion, the citizens of Wellington Wells instigated an incident (referred to only as "A Very Bad Thing") that, while it drove the Nazis out of England, was so horrible that Wellington Wells was stricken with guilt; to cope and prevent their guilt from collapsing their society, the city has resorted to taking dosages of Joy, a drug that makes the citizens forget about everything bad that has ever happened to them, including the "Very Bad Thing."

That was the most blatant flaw, yes. I just find the animal in question being a rat to be particularly ineffective. It's like trying to scare chinese people with NPCs eating a dog.

Sure the case can be made that it was meant to just seem "off" beforehand, but when you have the subtlety of a brick to the face then you're better off not foreshadowing at all.

I also don't like that it's just on a table and only took one swing (which also contributes to the problem having no time to actually build up the twist and the scene overall also feeling extremely static). Why didn't they have it hanging from the ceiling like a normal pinata? Why not take a couple extra swings to help escalate the tension of a scene? Why wasn't the grotesqueness more pronounced in general?

Everything about it was so shit that I can only logically conclude that it's shitty on purpose.

The "very bad thing" they did was politely asking the nazis not to invade their country and to instead settle through legal means. The children were all so disgusted by their country's intolerance that they ran away and formed a new community somewhere in Sweden.

I haven't been hyped for a new game in years. Please be good, We Happy Few
>>
>>341235745
I really like the title. Obviously you've got the Shakespeare reference which helps with the setting in England and then you've also got the connotations of the line. In the game you're not part of the 'few', you're an outsider, you're the enemy, because you're not happy. To the people on drugs, they're living that life of duty, death, and glory that you mentioned. To you, it's obvious that it's just an illusion but to them it's the realest thing they've got.
>>
>>341239835
No the moral of the story is don't get invaded because it will make you do horrible things if you do
>>
>>341239028
>To thwart the invasion, the citizens of Wellington Wells instigated an incident (referred to only as "A Very Bad Thing") that, while it drove the Nazis out of England, was so horrible that Wellington Wells was stricken with guilt

Given what actually all happened in WW2, I don't see how it could be anything that only effected the German side. It would have to be some incrediably """edgy""" like using their own kids as suicide bombers against the German.

Just doing something in the way of "horribly" killing the Germans with for example chemical weapons wouldn't cut it.
>>
It doesn't sound like it has anything particularly interesting that would make me play it. None of the 'features' are unusual, the story sounds generic as hell and I'd probably just get annoyed by the overuse of british slang.

Also, unless the gameplay is beyond revolutionary, why make a story-based game have procedural generation?

I mean I generally agree, even with the concept that in theory it should be fairly imaginative writers behind such an "off the beaten path" type game, but honestly I am hoping I am wrong.
I'd rather delude myself into thinking it isn't so contrived and I will be surprised by something I never could have thought of myself. It would be refreshing to have something truly unexpected for once....

How exactly does Brits eating their own kids make the Nazi stop invading them though...?

It doesn't.

If anything it should have motivated them more to stop the barbaric Brits from killing innocent children!!!

>>
>>341241004
Sure nobody that actually wants to play video games hopes for games to be bad, however fact of the matter is that they usually are. In this case based on my knowledge of the story premise and the general state of the industry, as well as what they presented at E3, it's not a hope I personally would bet money on.
>>
>>341240039
In 1974, I think, there was a wargame involving all the partitipants of Second World War. They did a wargame based on the premise that the Battle of Britain failed (as in, the battle, Britain was never 'on the brink' in WW2, never, despite American education on the matter) and that Germany managed to land a force of 220,000 (the planned amount) in Britain, with the assumption the Royal Navy did not engage the crossing to try and prevent it (I'll go into this later) that the estimated time taken for Britain to surrender would be.....

Never.

The German invasion force would be defeated in 2 weeks. All sides, both Axis and Allied, said the loss was inevitable. Germany would never have beaten Britain.

This was even playing 100% to the strengths of the Germans, using the high-end estimates. It also included the assumption that the crossing took place on the day, despite storms hitting that area quite severely during the time, but conversely assumed that the Royal Navy would have taken a week to get out of mooring.

In the end, the 6 defensive lines in the UK mainland held. Only one was breached enough to attack the 2nd line. First week would be all German offensives, until the British counter-attacked their decently equipped home guard and crushed them against the ocean where the German Navy was unable to extract their forces due to Royal Navy patrols.

So even outside of alt history, the British would have won without the need for such insane shit. Neat story though.
>>
>>341241420
>It makes them seem crazy and horrible enough for you not wanting to go near them?

Yeah, according to Hollywood logic. But in reality, it would just make do as I said, be more determined to defeat the "evil brits" and "save the children!"

Not to mention that how does that explain how ONE town that ate their children stop the ENTIRE Nazi invasion of the UK? Unless the you went with "Wellington did it and it worked against the Germans that were invading their town, so the REST of the fucking country followed suit and made all the Germans leave (which btw still doesn't explain why they would leave and still not come back 10-20+ years later).

Also, even if you go so far as to force this retarded logic, then essentially the UK would be quite LITERALLY worse than Hitler (trademarked meme) AND "you will become evil just like him if you kill him" (trademarked meme) combined.

So basically like this post >>341239835
it would be the better option.
>>
>>341242294
Does this assume the Nazis would have only sent a force of 220k rather than the millions they sent to the Soviet Union?
>>
>>341242294
Neat.
Has their ever been a wargame done based on the idea that Germany tried invading Russia at a time not in winter (i.e. at any time not incredibly stupid)? I'm interested how far they'd get without being interrupted.
>>
>>341242710

>>
>>341242294

Lmao the Germans were never legit planning a land invasion you sperglord. Their plan was to establish aerial dominance and bomb them into submission while meanwhile cutting off their dependency in imports. They were going to starve the Brits, kill their morale, and force them to withdraw from the war. Think: a country-sized siege
>>
>>341242294

>military force ALONE and the ONLY way to make a country submit

I mean if you are gonna try to make an argument about military strategy you should at least have the basics down...

>despite American education on the matter

I maybe American and I realize American education on WW2 is filled with propaganda and holes, but the sources of information about stuff like the UK was within 2 weeks reserve supplies from starving to death are UK sources not American claims that weren't actually true.

Unless of course, you want to rebuttal these sources from the UK and say they were just using propaganda to appeal to the the whole "big bad evil strong Germany is picking on poor defenseless weak UK, oy vey how evil!!" bullshit line.

In which case, why are you believing everything else the UK was telling you and nice forgetting that it was FIRST the UK that declared war on Germany, not the other way around.

Now, at this point, if you would like to try to argue how good and righteous England was just trying to "do the right thing" by saving their GOOD AND LONG TIME OLD BUDDY Poland, I would love to hear how you ATTEMPT to argue that point, so go ahead and try if you want.

The fact that so many books still name the Beatles as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" rock band ever only tells you how far rock music still is from becoming a serious art. Jazz critics have long recognized that the greatest jazz musicians of all times are Duke Ellington and John Coltrane, who were not the most famous or richest or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Classical critics rank the highly controversial Beethoven over classical musicians who were highly popular in courts around Europe. Rock critics are still blinded by commercial success. The Beatles sold more than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore they must have been the greatest. Jazz critics grow up listening to a lot of jazz music of the past, classical critics grow up listening to a lot of classical music of the past. Rock critics are often totally ignorant of the rock music of the past, they barely know the best sellers. No wonder they will think that the Beatles did anything worthy of being saved.

Gee, I wonder... I know /v/ is filled with uneducated kids these days, but come on the internet makes it easy to get knowledge from multiple different sources

Not to mention that he didn't should make you start to ask the question: Maybe Hitler wasn't just a 666 SUPER SATAN EVIL DICTATOR only bent on world conquering EVERY SINGLE last country on earth simply for the sake of evil purposes.

And Hitler did invade a lot of other neutral countries simply for the purpose of military strategy against another actual target. For example when attacking France (after it declared war on Germany). Germany wanted to go through Belgium to get to France from another angle but since a neutral country can't allow this under international law, they got defacto invaded.

It was a properly sanctioned wargame, the invading side was made up of German war veterans. The Germans got absolutely trashed through a combination of overextended supply lines, British scorched earth tactics involving destroying the ports and the weather. That Anon is exaggerating how amazing British soldiers are, obviously, but the Germans did get trashed. It's honestly a shame they didn't invade and get crushed because Britain would have a fantastic homeland defence war mythos that would make the Battle of Britain look like ass by comparison.
