Lets Players and children got a hold of it. Then Mojang saw the incredible market and was easily able to sell merch of various products to children. They eat that shit up crazy and then the whole game just panders to them.

Focus on annoying or pointless stuff like Hunger and pre-built temples / dungeons instead of meaningful updates to the game experience that exited before than.

The change in world generation was also kind of lame. Biomes are just too samey to ever be interesting, and should have had more intricate intersections / blends between different biomes, as it is now, every plain, every forest, every desert is generally just like all the rest, as opposed to the old way where you could have forests with mountains in them.

The Mojang team are exceptionally lazy fucks, Jeb being the least so.

They release updates that can fuck over community servers, as they often have to restart everything to spawn new biomes or new blocks/items found in them. The latest being one example.

Combat Update was a decent "in bulk update", but if you're adding new foods and such, make it really count.

All they really had to do was write a proper modding system. It's not by all means easy, especially if they want to allow you to automatically download clientside mods for servers you join (and twice especially security-wise), but that literally the only thing they really needed to do. Any of content they pump out is greatly overshadowed by mods, mods that are mostly inaccessible to majority of players.

Autism.

The addition of redstone and logic systems isn't a bad thing in it of itself, but then parents en masse decided that Minecraft was an excellent edutainment game. And thus its fate was sealed. The audience didn't want a living breathing world to live in, they wanted to become rich and famous Youtubers. Hundreds of thousands of kids and manchildren autistically placing bricks and contraptions in increasingly intricate structures hoping that their next magic act would earn them riches beyond imagination.

Well, the fact that instead of focusing on expanding the gameplay they went for the gimmick approach while showing their incompetence in the midst of it.

Truly, and I hate to be a broken record, Terraria is what Minecraft should've been,
>Released as a small but ambitious little game
>Not much content, but it's fun especially in multiplayer
>Devs begin updating it by adding new tiers of equipment and new crafting materials and recipes
>(Excluding the pause Red took from development) keep a steady pace, continuously releasing more and more updates, so much so that the game now looks unrecognizeable from how it was years before
>Never ask for a single dollar for what should have been called paid dlc
I mean for fuck's sake, Terraria gives you a perfect sense of progression. From being a tiny human that can barely explore a cave with two kms of rope to a flying alien wizard that shoots swords.
>>
>>341224204
Damn...would have been fun to see Minecraft blossom into a 3d Terraria. Kept it's lego aspect of exploration but rpg elements right. Can't believe autists and manchildren ruined it.
Mod's can "fix" it but there's no real community behind them thus no fun playing by yourself.
>>
>>341223803
I kind of want to make a fuckhuge mod just to spite mojang, tell them that whatever the fuck they're doing over there ain't enough. If a singular person can make a mod that pretty much rewrites the game and makes it far better than vanilla, then clearly a whole team of people can do the same shit.
>>
>>

It was a happy few months, and then they stopped and he went to reddit.

You know, I was always thinking that reddit would be a fad just like every other popular site that came before it, but it's been 7 years now. People left SA and it lost relevance, people left ebaums and it died, people left gaia and it died, people left FP and it lost relevance, SA lost relevance again, but reddit is just a thorn that won't go away. Why is it not dying just like everything that came before it?

Were we the ones that died?

>>
>>341220937
nothing. just play by yourself or play with your friends.
no need to play on public servers with autistic children.
>>
I wonder if the difference between Terraria and Minecraft development was because in Minecraft, it was actually programmer's job to add content, while in Terraria there were dedicated people for creating content and programmers only did what they were told.

>>341224612
Thaumcraft is it. Thaumcraft alone literally overshadows everything Mojang tried to achieve. Although Thaumcraft is a bit more heavy on crafting side.

The Twilight Forest and Aeter are mods that focus on exploration. Conveniently both use almost none of original Minecraft asjavascript:;sets.

Because different mobs spawn based on the background in Dungeon post WOF. For example I roll a Ranger and the sniper skeleton doesn't spawn because I don't have the right background I can't get the scope drop nor the sniper rifle, I'd have to make a spare map and kill the required bosses until hardmode dungeon unlocks. It's just needless busywork that can be skipped if all 3 backgrounds are on the same map.

This might've been like 3 years ago, it started off with a pokemon stadium, but eventually it just became a stadium to duel people in with different landscapes to choose from
It was with a personal group of friends

I do, but the thing is that /v/ had fewer pages and no proper catalog at the time. Now that we have those enhancements, it's much easier to contain continued dialogue.

Also, you're forgetting that the catalyst for /vg/ was Katawa Shojo. Which is still going in /vg/ sadly.

During Microsoft's conference they were showing off Minecraft new features and for the VR feature John Carmack chimed in "Can I join in too?" and began playing Minecraft in VR with two shills. He didn't talk about the design or process of how he achieved the VR support he just faked enthusiasm for riding a minecart in Virtual Reality.
>>
>>341229476

Yeah, I think so. Didn't we hit rock bottom or something? I recall talk of a vault 404.

Regardless, I eventually wandered into one of the offshoot settlements and kinda made some progress leveling up stuff until everyone started to get bored.
>>
>>341229938
I also ended up in an offshoot and just worked on random shit until it was just me and two other guys, and then the guy who owned the boat quit so I did too.

Ace of spades the first time around was great.
All the shops people made of propaganda posters were great, and people were pretty chill in-game too.

I tried playing again in one of the revivals going around, and everyone's all edgy for no reason, plus it's been waifu'd to hell

That isn't and has never been the point. The point is that it WAS in, and it was taken out. A desired feature was removed. It was a symbol of rebellion and disconnect between developer and core.

He literally wears a fedora for fuck's sake.

Yet people here still think they're ebic patricians for liking him and the GG garbage.
>>
>>341231903
I've literally never heard of any requests for this feature other than your post right here, and I used to play MC and frequent it's communities pretty frequently.

Mod it in, it'll be better than what the devs would do. Stop waiting for the world to hand you shit.
>>
>>341228984
Not exactly.

They should have had the mod API out before selling off.
They should have done the transition better.

But the main modder supporting the others should not have taken his ball and went home fucking everyone. I get why he did it, but damn. It had us hooked on it and then crippled the modding community when it was pulled.
>>
>>341220937
Split in the community.
Some wanted it to be virtual Lego, others wanted it to be a survival game. Notch tried to appease both, and pretty much only managed to build a 'somewhat' competent Lego program and a very basic barebones and boring survival game.

I kinda quit playing a bit after the jungle update.

I always liked playing on this one Factions server called ShadowRaze had a sweet sky base made of glass that didn't cast shadows, with 1000 blocks of ocean in every direction. Undetecable. Back then it was for unironic PvP fun. I left for a while after piling up 2 and a half stacks of diamond blocks.

I came back a year later. My guy who sold me those blocks got banned for racial or homophobic slurs. I was sad. Server was kinda dying too. Only like 60-90 players instead of 140-200. I built a new ocean sky base, since the world had been wiped, and became relevant in the server again. World gets wiped 6 months later and I leave again, for like 2 or 3 years.

Try to come back, the server is part of a network of servers now. Basically completely dead. Like 20 people tops. My donator rank is gone too. I'm kinda sad. RIP.

Now I'm back again. I'm still playing factions servers, but I Xray, and hack now, partly to catch up to everyone else, partly because it's fun being le haxor guy. Haven't started the fighting part.
It'll be another 2 or 3 weeks before I have enough protection 4 again, and godswords. I got the sky base going again though.

The game is still somewhat fun to me. Some of these new biomes are dumb. Like the ice spire one, and the mesas, and the like mossy stone forests... I just wanna grief 8 year olds with my hacks now.

I wish I could be like 13 again, on that first server when it was still alive...

>The Sky Dimension was first announced when Notch tweeted a picture of the dimension. It was probably made to be like a "heaven," because the Nether was considered to be like a hell. The Sky Dimension was not completely confirmed until Notch released an update via Twitter stating: "And because PC Gamer made such a big deal of the Sky Dimension, I guess I'll have to finish it. Consider it confirmed."
>In a live webcast on the Swedish gaming site feber.se Notch revealed that the Sky Dimension would "probably be a dream world" and that when "you go to bed there is a certain chance that you get teleported into the dream world instead. Then you will be able to do it on purpose later on."

Pull up a chair, my child.

There was a small, free, open source game by the name of infiniminer that had much potential but a lazy developer. A culmination of ideas hatched by anons of ye olde were the subject of many threads. One particular anon by the name of notch(such a contradiction) applied some ideas in a little project of his own. Out of these threads came what would eventually become minecraft. By listening to ideas from fellow anons and applying them rather quickly, he grew in popularity. He had a small history as a game developer of Wurm, as well as a long history as a convenience store clerk. He asked for a measly 5 euro for continued updates to his game as he was turning it into an actual product with the intent to release. Many anon were happy to have something to throw money at, something with such promise and potential at such a bargain price in time before the indie boom. Notch, being the semi-competent developer he is, made an attractive and functional website for his java game and shared it with those he saw fit. Being the content creators we were (with quite the influence and reputation) his website and game spread quite quickly. Notch no longer needed to show up to work and development was expected to double or triple in production. Instead, he took a vacation and development slowed beyond belief. The hate being spewed at Notch was too much for his /v/irgin heart to bear, so he packed his bags, moved to reddit, and never came back.
>>
>>341220937
Minecraft became too popular for its own good and development on it has pretty much come to a halt in worries that they'll piss everyone off at the changes.

A lot of 4chan users have some form of talent they use to create various forms of content. I am not talking within the confines of playing minecraft. That is part of what made 4chan so great. People made things for the sake of making things, minus the ability to be recognized for said things and everyone knowing that if you claimed you made it, you were most likely lying unless you had some way to prove it.

Minecraft used to have amazing world generation.
They fixed it by making it more "realistic" but infact what they were doing is making everything boring. Why did minecraft even need realism. Worlds used to be completely unique but now you can barely tell the difference between random mountain #1 and random mountain #2.
>>
For me the worst thing was when they rebuilt the world generation engine.

Late to thread, but this is why I'm waiting so patiently for Cubeworld to come back. If Minecraft did something like that, while still keeping what they had, basically just adding every mod in Tekkit to the game, it might be more appealing.
