Well, I'd argue that you can have scarring life events that lead you to have untoward or overblown reactions to similar stimuli.
In an incredibly simple example, touching a hot stove as a child then being cautious about touching stoves afterwards since you remember the burn.
The proper way to handle them is to take those experiences and overcome the feelings they cause, but using them to better your life.
People can have trauma they need to work though, but yelling "trigger" at anything and everything that reminds you of it is simply ignoring the problem while also causing others.
Other people can't be in charge of your own issues, you must take ownership and that's what I don't see lots of people doing these days.
And while we live in a society lucky enough to even focus on these negative feelings, that doesn't give up liberty to be fucking pusses about them.
