>This VR fad is basically bizarro wii.
Exactly.

At least there was only one Wii, VR hasn't even been adopted for mainstream audiences and there are 3 flavors with their own exclusives, Samsung is joining this same year too, so that makes 4 VR headets with incompatible games across each other.

The VR meme killed this generation.
The joke is that the new hardware would be better used on non VR meme games.
There is not even a GPU that allows games to run on two monitors at 1440p at more than 30FPS, and this comes after the kinect was a fucking failure.

Well at least Sony had the vision to make this totally optional, but lol, Neo and Scorpio, what a shit gen.
>>
I hate being of those "hurr hurr you're just poorfag" trolls, but honestly I feel a lot of the "I hate VR" shit is just the price. Pretend the vive was 80 bucks, impossible, yeah, but pretend. At 80 bucks for what it gives you...it's fun as fuck and you know it. Fun varies by person to person, obviously.

That 3D drawing game, tiltbrush, to an artist like me is fucking fun as shit, but if someone hates drawing or is shit they won't get much fun out of it, then actual games like hoverjunkers, space pirate trainer, etc.

On top of that you can use software to VR older games like Skyrim and there's a boat ton of VR porn and waifu games for VR...

For 80 bucks you know you'd love that shit.
But it's not 80, it's 800. Ontop of needing a 1,000$+ computer. Not everyone can jump on with that.

How does this shit work? Can you play a game with a mouse/keyboard/controller and just put the headset on and immerse yourself? Or am I gonna have to move my head like a retard?

Apparently the HTC Vive is better than the oculus.

I suppose if you have $1500 to blow and not feel a sting, then it's a great buy.

If you simply can't drop that amount on VR yet, I'd say wait a few years till the hardware storm settles.

I contemplated on investing then I saw that you pretty much need to build an entirely new computer specifically for VR.

You require an authentic USB 3.0 motherboard. Apparently early usb 3.0 and cheaper boards use some sort of half as usb 3.0 setup that doesn't actually reach the speeds advertised.

This also means, new cpu likely if you don't have the latest socket/MB chipsets

You really do need a 300+ plus video card.

So in all fairness, you are probably going to drop $2500 on the full setup.

>Also surprised Microsoft didn't show off their hololense again. Maybe they've hit a snag on development
It's available. But it is pie-in-the-sky expensive. Worse, it doesn't work THAT well. It still works but not so effective that anyone would actually play videogames with it. It is marketed to companies for buisness and research purposes and they are the ones who can write off thousands of dollars in their expense reports.
>>
So how else can they do long distance movement in VR if not the teleport option?

What can you honestly do?
just use a regular controller? you need both your hands for the vive controllers, in FO4 one is for your pipboy and the other your equipped gun.
Also then you get the motion sickness pussies whining.

An OMNI treadmill is a solution, but that's literally a niche gimmick ontop of an already niche gimmick. No one is going to buy 250$ fucking treadmills.

2015 felt like a better E3.
>Nintendo Championship + Treehouse + Direct + Keynote.

Too bad Nintendo fanbase decided to shit on the unrelentlessly. That one fat fucker insulting Reggie live made me realize that I am completely disconnected with Nintendo's fanbase, the suspicion had arrived when I did not shit my intestines inside out like most people did during the reveal of Federation Force, I thought the idea of Metroid ODST was neat, and I liked the keynote for what it was. I know, I might be an hypocrite for complaining about that, and the behaviour of other jaded manchildren, but they did ruin a nice spectacle, and this was out of /v/. I expect that sort of shit here, but not elsewhere, and it was also the last year for many publications I followed.

Ms, and Sony keynotes were enjoyable. EA and Ubisoft were not as bad as this year, and pulled a decent show. Bethesda last show was better. This year they shown card games and DLC.

Let me correct myself by adding, that I do not mean to imply good games were not shown, just that the spectacle of it all was gone. I watched most trailers outside the keynotes, I liked DR4, and most of Sony's Keynote. Prey and Dishonored look enjoyable, but it was really tedious to sit through all of it. Ubi keynote was just retarded, there is a point where that buffoonery is not even enjoyable.

Pretty much, and it's all due to the demand of the hardware with the price tag attached.

I have USB 3.0...

Guess what? I still require a different motherboad.

I have a ATI R9 270

Guess what? I need to upgrade to the 290+

I'd say the majority of people who play pc games don't even have a $200+ video card

They usually always buy the bang for buck deal of price drops on the mid-high in between cards.

He means that our general lack of excitement might come form the fact that 50% of the E3 is locked behind $399 to $1,200 USD worth of new hardware.

In the case of MS and Sony it implies buying a new console and headset.
VR on PC is still terrible, and very experimental.

I used to be a fa/tg/uy, the moment I transitioned from card games to vidya was when I realized that my hobby was getting too expensive, and I could not reason spending $60 to $200 worth of TCG shit every month.

Starting from a 970, the current games are shit though. Most of them feel like Wii games because they use motion controller.

I can actually picture someone kissing the air.
Isn't a whore actually cheaper?

However a whore plus vr and some form of motion capture...anime could be real.
>>
>>341197265
VR ruined E3 by taking up like half of every conference's time to showcase shitty looking low poly meme games.
>>
>>341205861
Or even like fucking League of Legends or whatever

I just think so much time is being spent trying to make first person shooter games for VR when there is so much more interesting shit you could be making
>>
>>341206362
Thanks. Yea I'm just waiting to see if the games come. Don't want to get swindled by a possibly soon to be dead technology.
>>
>"They tried to buy Serious Sam VR as well. It wasn't easy, but we turned down a shitton of money, as we believe that truly good games will sell by themselves and make profit in the long run regardless. And also because we hate exclusives as much as you do."

Why are Croteam so bros?

Also daily reminder never to buy Jewbook Rift and support exclusivity
>>
>>341205780
It can, but better to just 1070/1080 and not have to worry about any issues later on. A 980 now a day is a shit purchase unless you get a used one for like 150-200
>>
>>341206569
Yes, whore is actually cheaper than VR. Thanks for reminding how expensive VR really is.
>>
>>341206653
That's what interested me about the hololense minecraft display last year. Seemed a lot better than this year's oculus first person display
>>
>>341203554
Most of those games look like shit though. 90% are on rails or stationary body type bullshit.
>>

though I guess if you like Miku you don't mind looking at a shits

Does minecraft have vive support? or is it just occulus looking around?

I know it's old as shit, but I don't know why it sounds really fun to play a VR minecraft and actually use the tools with the controllers and have to bunker in for the night to avoid zombie rape and shit. Maximum comfy
>>
>>341207195
>That's what interested me about the hololense minecraft display last year. Seemed a lot better than this year's oculus first person display
Except the fields of view sucked and the simulation they showed you was fake. And it costs 3000 dollars right now, with that money you could buy a VRcapable PC with both Vive and Rift, and still have change left over.
>>
>>341205405
Like I said, hololens isnt aimed at the video game market.

If you need/have use of a hololens, 3000 isnt going to be too much. It's not something you get for entertainment purposes like you seem to think it is. Professional hardware and software cost a lot of money and it isn't trying to compete with the oculus or the vive for the consumer market.

Yeah, there's a vive mod for it. It's pretty neat just wandering around the landscape and shit.
>>

Yeah I'm not saying right now it was just an interesting concept of a new way to play an old game. Rather than having a screen strapped to your face.

Carmack made Minecraft VR from the ground up for Microsoft, working for free. It will be a Win10 exclusive and unfortunately all the old mods would not be compatable. The Gear VR version is out but Microsoft is not ready to release the PC version yet.

they've opened up the windows holographic platform to vive and others

I always wondered, how do VR mods work for games like that? do you just start the game, then start a seperate program and it just automatically starts up in your Vive headset?
or what?

What happens if I just boot up Diablo III and put on my headset? black image?

I don't own a vive so idk how you "Activate" VR with games.
>>
>>341207815
Exactly.

>Yeah I'm not saying right now it was just an interesting concept of a new way to play an old game. Rather than having a screen strapped to your face.
You are still going to have a screen strapped to your face. Worse, you would have a whole PC strapped to your face too. What, you think Hololens doesn't have a screen?

Minecraft has a mod specific for it. Most games you need to use a 3rd party driver like Vorp-X or Vireio perception and have to tweak it a lot and it works kinda shit. Really you need mods specifically designed for that game like pic related.
>>
>>341208317
Unlike 3D tvs and kinect, though, this is actually fun.

3D is fucking shit, even in theaters on fucking IMAX it's boring as shit. Kinect I sitll don' tget the point at all. Pet the tiger and whatever

>>
>>341208149
>No your right I guess what I meant to say was that it wasn't first person but an overview of the game world that interested me.
Well I agree that obsession with FP view is silly and 3rd person works just as well or better. But that can apply for VR just as much as for AR. It is just depending on the developer.
>>
>>341208386
The floating gun would kill the immersion. Can't they render hands?

>>341208628
It'll likely have multiple options for traveling. Normal motion makes a lot of people sick so you can do a "blink" or "dash" motion with most games.

>>341208674
It would look far worse trying to render a body with only one point of reference for the motion to track. It's really not that immersion breaking as you think.
