Only in the Western front and only because they had a 'race to the ocean' for supply. Prior to 1915, the war was fluid and even then cavalry was still majorly used by both sides.
It only changed by about 1917 where both sides had vastly more machineguns than they had at the start (a single MG was priceless and capturing one was a feat worthy of promotion)
For example, a single man mounted on a MG held off an entire German army on his own for several hours. After he ran out of ammo, he chucked it into the river so it couldn't be rescued. He was then captured.

Certain aspects of the game point towards it being the best Battlefield in recent years: no lock ons, decent melee, tons of attention to detail like vehicle load animations, great graphics, driveable large vehicles, BC2 style destruction, and the operations mode seems like it would be fun.
