I played them enough to know the series should have ended at 1, but since they wanted to milk the franchise the story fucked off. Still, I think it's stupid to see GoW4. It's screaming to let it be a new game, but they don't want to take risks with a new IP so they just added GoW to the title.

The kid will be getting the level up experience and you're going to expect to play as him all game. What was shown was definitely jarring, but it obviously isn't anything more than a very slow paced tutorial. I do think a shift in emphasis is clear, but the extent of the changes aren't at all knowable. They picked ten minutes that could generate interest without revealing much of anything.
I suspect the game is going to go back to the roots of what inspired the series and emphasize the Zelda influence more. I also have a feeling Keaton's is going to get his old weapons back which will restore some of the old dynamic, or at least weapons similar to his old ones. But no one really knows. The camera change surprised me.
