To be fair as bad as AC6 was the basic premise was "fuck the stovies" with bad dialogue, which is better than "I hate my own country and love everyone in the entire world equally, that's why I joined the military" with bad dialogue.
Plus almost all of AC6's terribleness was confined to cutscenes + Shamrock. The banter between most of the in-game units was fine. It makes it easier to skip/drown out, unlike AC5 where it's omnipresent.

When I say no interesting interplay I'm talking about tactically. The space battles between ships in Gundam is snore-worthy and the mobile suits just fly around shooting/stabbing each other. Mobile armors just exist to be ghetto mobile suits.
Compare that to Code Geass, where the mechs are used within a ground environment and have to utilize the terrain in battles. This includes moving in and around buildings and having to deal with unequal ground and varying levels of mobility. Some interesting things are also explored on the operational level, like mudslides in Narita or using information warfare via jacked KMFs. Granted a lot of this gets thrown out the window in R2 but everyone knows that's part of why R2 was so shit.

The DS one is a remake of AC2, and gives it more meat you can say? The PS1 AC2 I think set the base for the rest of the series to really evolve and pull from in total, even if 3 would be the only one with 'true' multi-branching paths, and 2 would be the first and last one with 'hidden/secret' missions. 4 dropped that outright, and 5 and X have branching, but it's more of a 'you get to directly pick, and it's not directly based on how you finished a stage'.

There's no definitively "canon" route for Zero, since most of them can lead to all the other games. The only one in debate is the mercenary route, and that's because it's the only one where Huckebein/Heartbreak 1 show up. Some think that's the canon route because it shows Pops getting shot down, which is something we KNOW happens from AC5, but on the other hand Pops was supposed to be shot down by Grabacr, not Shwarzwe, and he was supposed to be shot down after he refused to nuke his own country. The timing is all wrong in Mayhem; South Belka hasn't even fallen and it's a good couple mission before Stage of the Apocalypse. There's no reason why Belka would be willing to drop the bomb at that point or why they'd only drop 1.

The gun isn't actually that good. It's too weak for tanks (modern tank armour is some serious shit) and super overkill for infantry, so it's not really any better than the lighter guns every other fighter has. A lot of its CAS work these days is done with bombs/missiles, and plenty of planes can handle those.
And when it comes to other strengths of the plane, well, it doesn't really have any. The cockpit has pretty nice armour so that's good, but it's still not enough to save it from missiles, and stingers and the like are man portable so you can never be sure they're not around. What else can it do? Nothing another plane can't do better.
It's a cool plane and I like it, but it's not that good. It's like the Nighthawk. Fucking cool plane, but that alone isn't a reason to keep it.
