This. Resident Evil was always more action oriented than it's contemporaries like Silent Hill, it just went full retard with it.
Now they're going full retard again, but on the opposite side of the spectrum by turning the franchise into a walking simulator instead of bringing it back to a more balanced, classic style RE.
All I want is fixed camera angles, logic puzzles, minimal story, spooky atmosphere, over the top scifi horror monsters, and a labyrinth to explore.
It shouldn't be this hard to get right, especially after REmake REmastered was a hit proving there's still an audience for it.

The trailer made it seem like spooky ghost house explorer nonsense. RE is about a zombie outbreak. RE was spooky because you has shit vision, shit controls, limited supplies, and an entire mansion/city of zombies ready to eat you.
What this looks like, is it holds no connection to Raccoon City. It holds no connection to the S.T.A.R.S team. It holds no connection to Umbrella. It holds no connection to any self-reliant protagonist (meaning, more than likely you're only option is to run and hide).

RE4 incorporated elements of third-person action games into the horror formula and it worked well. There's no reason RE couldn't be good in first-person as long as it sticks to the core tenants of the series. I like the classic games but I don't really want new REs to play like them, just instill the same creepiness.

and the controls and camera angles were there for a reason, realizing the limits of your control over the character, plus knowing the layout of the game helps you plan out your routes, and really the old RE games are built for speedrunning and unlocking cool stuff.

I bet the very first level, or tape, or chapter, or whatever is going to be exploring and sneaking around the cabin as a possibly unrelated character. Something like the beginning part of The Evil Within. You get caught and dragged around, you escape, you sneak around, you're unarmed. And then it will cut to someone else like the detective trying to find you and there's zombies or something. Or maybe you get some weapons and it turns into something much bigger where you find a nearby town and they're all infected (again, like the evil within)
