There's one thing that is bothering me.
What the fucking hell is going on.
I feel like I could love this game, but I need to get a grip with the mechanics and shit. Is there a guide? The in-game tutorials are about as mystifying as everything else in the game.

Replace Shield with Mask (until they have 0 attack) then alternate between attack and overflow.
If they overflow once, you mask once.

I played the demo and it was really fun but the art direction, character design and the general world itself were really off-putting to me so I never bothered to play the full version.

I really never ever got why people are so confused with this game. Are they just parroting what they read? EYE is one of my most favorite games of all time, but I was never confused. It's literally just a FPS with RPG elements. You shoot stuff and then spend level up points to increase stats that are fully described in what they do. There are tutorials even.

But tutorials explain everything! They show you around the menus and tell you how to bind stuff to the action wheel. What else do you need to know? All the button binds are in the menu, and all the interface is perfectly self-explanatory. All the skills and upgrades are described in great detail, telling you exactly what they do. Maybe you need a good hint on how to hack, or that you should always use minimum scientists, but this shit

THERE ARE TWO THINGS THAT WILL HELP YOU:
the guns are all good and you just pick the one that you think makes the best sound when you shoot it
the option system is something you should customize along with your character, if you want to sneak around then set the enemy ai to stealth if you want to eliminate everyone then reduce enemy spawn rates

That's not exactly correct. You get told what exactly is going on in the first few minutes of the game. Same goes for The Void. The issue is figuring out the deeper cause of the problem.
