I don't give a flying a fuck about TES and how much Todd wants to milk the franchise, but seeing this shit announced I really get aggravated by one thing: why in the fuck do video game TCGs made in this day and age insist on animating card game?

Cards are used IRL as a surrogate for grand battle you're imagining happening, with video game technologies you can animate the actual fucking battle. This new TES thing, Heartstone and MTG game all chose to just show me pieces of paper falling on the table, as if that's the reason I play TCGs in the first place.

And it's not like it's a law, Etherlords did it right all the way back in 2001, Pokemon games has been doing it decently since the 90s. So why the fuck are they making the stupid card flopping vidya and who the hell thinks it's acceptable way to make a game in 2016?

Although I can exclude Gwent out of it, since you're already imagining Geralt playing weirdly technical card game with uneducated peasants.

>I can exclude Gwent out of it
What about their upcoming standalone Gwent? Would that be acceptable to be depicting tabletop? Because I'd sure prefer to see a battlefield where Yen, Triss and Dyjkstra lose to ten ballistas led by Emhyr.
>>
Because making 3d models is hard and expensive and cardfags only care about numbers.
>>

I don't really think anyone imagines MTG battles as anything but putting down cards, except for maybe the most devout of Vorthoses.

As for this TES crap, normally I wouldn't give a single fuck, but they actually brought back Tedders to write. Bethesda actually successfully pandered to me for once. So I might check it out.

CDPR is probably more interested in making Cyberpunk, so they'll just rip code straight out of Witcher 3, build frame around it hastily and maybe add a few new cards to rake in money.

how else do you keep the attention span of kiddies enough to steal mom's card when she's not looking

Etherlords was fun, but it traded all the complexity of MTG for those animations.

Surely a full rendition of a battlefield with big monsters would hold their attention better than pictures flopping on a flat surface.

Someone who gets it. Nice work.

All i'm seeing is reskinned Hearthstone

Wait what, where did you hear this? I never heard any of this.

let me guess, you're one of those that call every third person rpg with melee combat souls like?

that sounds pretty retarded for the marketing they are doing

they are rentig the most expensive advertising space at e3 for gwent

Instead of placing minions in one field, you use two. Such amazing innovation.

it is actually unique enough to be fun. Still, I can see why somebody would say that

I don't understand the point of boardgames altogether. The existence of videogames kinda makes them pointless, no?
The only ones with some merit are tabletop games that include lots of human interaction, like D&D, but this sort of activity is pure autism

I like collecting cards and making decks with completely different playstyles.

That UI is so ugly. It looks as bad as some of the early Hearthstone prototypes.

>>341033701
The problem with elaborate animations in card games is that they start to feel tiring very quickly.
Most people would turn them off after even a day, so it's not worth the effort at all.

actually sitting across from someone instead of staring at a screen makes a different experience, especially when is taken competitively

clicking a mouse to play a card or shuffle a deck will never feel as satisfying as actually doing it in real life
>>
>>341037082
you have different keywords like regenerate, prophecy, braketrough, pilfer and drain.

it plays differently due to some twists to the mechanics and quite unique cards, but yeah the coreconcept is the same

>>341037329
Oh shit, you're right.

>>341033701
If you want a grand battle feeling TCG, play Card Wars.
>>
>>341033701
They are extremely cheap to develope and profitable.
As long as people eat this shit up they will make more of it.
