You have to think about your art in terms of three dimensional form that interacts with light around it. You are pillow shading, which means you are just seeing your drawing as a two dimensional shape and doing rings of light around it which makes your drawing look flat. A tip anon, look up "jagged lines", yours is full of them, they make the shapes look choppy. Also contour needs to wrap the entire image, do not leave missing contour pixels.
One more thing, when you are choosing the color to contour your image, choose one style and use it for all the image, it looks better than mixed. For your skeleton, you chose a darker color to contour, while for your armor, you chose black contour, it would look better if you chose a darker gray instead of straight black.

First one is my first drawing without any prior knowledge, and the last one is after looking up some pixel art tutorials, it just took me like a couple hours to learn the basics. It is not perfect by any means, but 100x better than before.

it's to show how weak the projectile is against the enemies
see, the projectile is actually really fucking good, and can kill pretty much anything. BUT it only works regular monsters, which only show up outside the castle, ergo where you'll never go after you get to the town. The castle are filled with special enemies which are highly ressistant to the components of the projectile.
so the character's main attack (his projectile) is worthless compared to how it was, but not completely ineffective since it was so incredibly strong to begin with. But ALMOST completely ineffective

Thanks. I don't actually have it implemented in-engine yet, so anything related to animation speed and movement speed I'll probably solve via code. As it stands, I first have to finish the vertical walk animations and then figure out a system to assemble and coordinate the animations of the separate torso, arm, leg and head sprites. (They change depending on what the specific unit has equipped.)

It's actually interchangable between a simple shield block, a sidestep(think smashbros) and a dash
you actually start the game in the fields before you enter a forest. The forest serves as a tutorial with a boss, simple enemies and such. Then you'd get to the town
