Right now? It's not really any good. Does it have potential? Yes it does.
The lead developer replied to some guy's post in the forum saying he spent 240$ and every single thing he didn't like about the game, ever since, they've been running quite a lot of changes and community-driven stuff.
So the game right now might not be worth it, but if you trust the dev, which coming from a dota2 player that is used to getting shat on by Valve, it looks like quite a bright future. I'm also enjoying it as it is right now desu.

Funless grinding and farming only to level up, no real respec, pointless skills that were never reworked (sage, i'm talking about you), unblanced, rebirth system and 3rg job system (why even bothering getting a third job before getting rebirth?), less easier to find a party, many jobs are basically worthless in parties, frustrating drop rate which adds nothing to the fun, needing an entire character to sell things.
Some class need compound to make powerful skills, some need no compound to make even more powerful skills.

Not to mention it got a huge headstart on the private servers thanks to the early theft of code and such, so the server code become very advanced and accessable, very quickly. I used to enjoy fiddling around with it.
Add that to the easy access to the sakray test client, so english private servers routinely had newer content than the official servers did, and it wasn't much of a contest.

Grinds my fucking gears that they haven't done a fucking graphics update since the game came out. The 3D models look ugly as fuck, the sprites are fine, but they were made in the early 00's, so hlaf of the PC sprites are just mirrored, most of the new monsters have no back sprites, the UI is a mess, even though they did update that a bit.
Boggles my mind how this game managed to be almost 20 years old now, with Gravity being completly incompetent fucks with the game.

Sakray's the RO test/beta server in nuknukland. All the latest and greatest shit goes there, and most of the private servers were(maybe still are, I don't know anymore) based off the sakray client.
A lot of times, new areas and such weren't wholely complete yet, so the server devs naturally didn't know what was intended, and cludged maps and new enemies as best they could(sometimes resulting in empty maps on some servers that didn't remove access to them.)
On the other hand, you also had cases like private servers having renewal fucking years before the official english ones did.

This is actually an improvement. Many WoE oriented guilds/player prefer WoE 2.0 compared to the previous one because the castle area is wider. Narrow corridors and portals only make WoE boring because you just camp on the portals until WoE over.

That's not a flaw, that's progression accordance to the game's lore. In the later episode, it was restored.

Well, they changed the core stat mechanics, so they turned casting classes to be extremely boring.
3rd jobs deal stupid damage, atk/str formula changed to only add 1 atk every 1 str point, luk gives a lil bit of everything and basically you can solo most of the game spamming 1 OP 3rd job kill.

Frankly I think that balance is one of the most important things in any MMO, if 80% of classes, maps, items, etc are useless, then the game becomes really dull

I don't know, I don't play there. But ultimately, the broken-ness isn't as much as you say >80%. People were exaggerating because most videos that shows you can solo with one skills are from official servers, which has gods items and mvp cards everywhere. So unless your server make them easy to get, it can still be quite challenging.

You can still insta-cast with Reading Spellbook + Release (Warlock, but you don't get the Magical Amplification bonus this way) and having the wind elemental summon (Sorcerer, who also has very short cooldown in it's skills)

Which is kind of stupid strong because it makes you freeze/stone curse immune without any card investment.
I still remember when people on my private server finally figured that equation out.
The funny thing is, it actually probably made class balance better because you could use Ghostring in armor and be freeze immune at the same time, which was basically the only way to deal with Champions with freeze weapons in PvP for classes that weren't Paladin.
