Solo quest in Azeroth as much as possible before 60. Don't just grind the dungeon finder que or PvP. Do the dungeons and do PvP, but don't skip questing. The world Blizzard created in Azeroth is very rich and you should explore it as much as possible.

WoW still has a great endgame experience and overall slightly better controls but the rest has grown fairly mediocre and tepid. While some of that may just be bias because I have way more time in WoW than XIV, I do think that WoW's dev team (I don't want to just generalize Blizzard because I like a lot of their other games) greatly overestimated that the amount of people that didn't raid didn't because they couldn't and not because they didn't want to. Years of overestimating that has bit them in the ass.
XIV has a lot of fun, silly stuff to do and try out plus a pretty solid story throughout. I just had a blast tonight doing treasure map hunts with my Free Company, hoping for Aquapolis portals to spawn and then the silly tension as we waited for each vault door to open or slam shut in our faces.
If you try out XIV take your time with it. Explore, try out the various classes, try the professions, hang out at the Gold Saucer... just don't blitz the Main Story Quests because you want to do the endgame raids. The game offers so much (And now it's easier to find because the quests that unlock features have a new marker since last week's patch) and to pass it by is stupid.
Oh, and get ready to go to the Waking Sands. A lot.

Retail WoW is a complete joke of a game that has buckled under its own feature-itis. What was once an admirable DAOC clone with more polished gameplay is now just a single-player mobile game where you sit in your garrison all day, queue for LFR, interact with absolutely nobody, and receive all of your loot in a scheduled tray under your door.
FFXIV's a better experience than retail WoW by a longshot, but if you can play on a Vanilla WoW server, then that's what I'd recommend.

XIV monk is by far the easiest melee dps, while Windwalker has been pretty hard last time I logged into the Legion beta. Monk has a series of positionals and stances he switches through so his next moves will have different effects. Has the highest personal DPS in the game but brings the least group support.

As someone who played WoW for 10 years, no. The leveling in its current state isn't enjoyable whatsoever. Every dungeon is trivial as fuck because you will be playing with people who get gear to wear on low level characters that accelerate the pace of the game. What this means for people who are new is that you will have no fun doing anything, because all dungeon mobs will die in literal seconds. You don't do shit, and you won't get to do shit for hours and hours until you reach max level. At least in FFXIV it requires you to use some portion of your brain to do dungeons and level up. It's not great by any means but you'll definitely feel more engaged. Community in WoW in nonexistent outside of raiding. In FFXIV people are pretty friendly and helpful to new players. They typically toss you some cool items too.

If you think you play XIV with bots who are always silent you have never seen how dead the WoW crowd is. Leveling is the most miserable experience, hence why you get a free character boost to skip it. Of all ranged DPS MCH has the highest mobility. If you manage your ammunition well you can be running around a lot. That being said your opener is the most important part of your dps, so if you don't like the fact that you have to cram all your skills into the 20 seconds of wildfire you'd be better off with another class.

In daily dungeons my healer literally does more damage than 80% of the dps I am grouped with for trash pulls. Why anyone would skip on that is beyond me. Same for any 2 healer duty finder content. Any healer that chances a death because they focused too much on dps is just a bad healer then. A good healer will always prioritize keeping the party alive and only dps when they're confident everyone is in a good place for the next 3-whatever seconds.
Honestly I'm thankful as a healer I have things to do like actually contributing to DPS and the speed of a run.

I played FF14 for a few months and it was enjoyable. Fantastic for a fan of the series would get get references and stuff. I mostly ran shit with an FC, so only occasionally would I meet some shitter rando.
I treated the game as a single player game basically. I did end game shit for a little, but then I realized I hate grinding just for gear so I didn't renew and will wait until a new expansion comes out, then goes on sale.
I picked up the game when it was on sale for 20ish bucks for arr+hw, subbed for 4 more months and also did the 14 day free trail before adding the licenses to the account.

It's mostly that I would make full sets. A full set from 2.X would take maybe an hour at most, this was gathering all the materials myself and making everything from scratch. Did this for a 54 DRG set and it took me almost two hours. I've since stopped caring about crafting and have been leveling them now since the moogle questso are pretty easy.
Any speculation about additional abilities in 4.0? My 3 bars are already full with some classes and controller people are pushed to their limits. Will they introduce alternative skills for older ones? Like as WHM you can choose a loadout that has Holy or a better singeltarget spell and shit like that?
WoW is the better game if you want casual fun.
FXIV is better if you want class complexity and vanilla-era elitism.

To be honest the biggest problem is that stacking meteors gives a damage down debuff, meaning you can't kill the adds fast enough before they start tornadoing entire alliances to death.

There's a reason why WoW was so popular they are losing their shit now and still holding more numbers then anyone else. Wildstar on the other hand did not stick by what it was, nor did it ultimately bring anything that new to the table. Gearing isn't hard, dungeons aren't that hard, raiding isn't hard. Attunement was nerfed to nothing. Money isn't hard to make, the game hands you pretty much raid ready pre BiS gear in 2 weeks. The good part is the free to play aspect is pretty spot on, there's very few things that are actually cash shop bound without being able to straight up buy it with in game currency, one of the best housing systems, pretty awesome crafting systems if you're an architect,generally the whole experience from learning the lore and exploring to getting into the group content is generally fun. If you enjoy theme parks and moderately decent story and lore. The theme isn't for everyone they did try to catch a late 30s crowd with a ton of what they added then threw in a bunch of millennial jokes that ruined it. The art style albeit the biggest complaint is the art style it's endearing and not that over bearing trying to be something it's not. Everything fits into place well.
Sad that for such a well polished game that Wildstar is, the hype it generated was to big for itself and therefore failed in the mainstream and became a niche mmo. There's still a solid player base, but you don't hear much about it anymore. In all rights it's pretty much better then most if not all theme park mmos, just people expected more then what they actually were looking at.

Wildstar I'll probably go check on for the new chapters in the story, it's story is that good which is something not any other mmo has done for me really.
I would assume it did replace some players, however Wildstar is now on a single server. They made changes to how the pvp flag works by rewarding players who stay in pvp mode to influence open world pvp some so they could merge the servers without hassles.
If it has positive reviews I'm sure players have stuck to it. Steam does bring in a pocket of players usually. The only reason I put Wildstar down was because Black Desert came out finally for an NA version. Which is pretty much what I expect out of an mmo I wanted.

Anyways, yea, WoW has taken a turn for the worst, lately. You log in to ads from their cash shop, and it's not going to be long until they implement daily login rewards if they haven't already. Leveling and questing is considered useless and is constantly ignored in every patch and expansion, leaving 98% of the content in the game useless and not fun. The focus on the endgame above all else has made the game a hollow mess until that point, and even after that, raids only unlock slightly-harder versions of the same raid, making progression feel hollow.
FFXIV did it right. It's not alt-friendly, but you can do everything on one character. The quests are lovingly crafted, most story quests even voice-acted. The raids are fun, the classes are interesting and unique, crafting isn't useless. PvP is nonexistent, unfortunately. FFXIV is the game to play if you care about the journey AND the destination, rather than just the destination.

I liked XIV for a bit but what really turns me off as an FFXI veteran isn't so much the themepark nature of the game or how the world is shittier, but the classes all feel like the same shit, compared to XI where it had 30+ classes and they all felt insanely different from one another, even shit like puppetmaster which could be boiled down to monk with pets played way different from them
That and they are turning all the FFXI classes on their head but in stupid ways like lol ninja is dps now or lol dark knights aren't HP sacrificing dps machines, instead they are tanks! What's next samurai will also be tanks and dancers will be the melee version of bards.

It's 100% safe to use ACT and you can talk about using ACT all you want in the chat. It's required for raiding and almost everyone uses it end-game.
The only way you'll get banned for using it, is if you're being a massive asshole about someone's dps in easy leveling content with new players and admitting to using ACT at the same time.
