The second they mentioned "Each character will have a unique set of abilities" it's pretty clear they're going to try and get into the TF2/Overwatch cash-grab.

I'm getting mad thinking about it.
It's actually comical just how lacking in self awareness they have.
They outright said in the conference that people are playing the original decades later and still holding tournaments. And yet they never seem to grasp exactly why this is.
There's flashier looking games. There's games with waifus. There's games with more 'abilities'. But in spite of all this people still play quake because it's fast as heckie and satisfying.
If they make a modern quake that doesn't meet the core standards of the old... what makes them think people will migrate from the old quake when they're already ignoring all these modern shooters now?
