High Elves became the Blood Elves after Arthas used the Sunwell to bring back kel'thuzad. They slowly started dying off or going crazy due to lack of mana. If you played Fallout imagine if the entire human race suddenly started turning into ghouls, with some dive bombing straight into ferals, but everyone going to be pure 100% feral in years. Then they went to Outland and discovered that they could metabolize Fel energy, and started doing that instead. Because Blood Elves are awesome and 'evolved' to metabolize energy rather than let it settle in their systems, they aren't corrupted by Fel energy except that it turns their eyes glowing green instead of blue.
Because a human leader was a dick to the blood elves and was literally going to execute their entire race because he only wanted pure humans on Azeroth, the Blood Elves escaped en mass to Outland. Later they returned to join with the Horde because humans might still want to kill them, Sylvanas an ex-ranger was queen of the forsaken, and the Horde would respect their strength without looking down upon them for not being human.

Gul'dan is supposed to control the horde from the shadows, and he has other warlocks working under him.
Draenor isn't dying and a lot of orc clans remain there.
Blackhand is the warchief, but Gul'dan falls into a coma when Medivh dies, at which point Doomhammer kills Blackhand and takes control of the horde.
Doomhammer doesn't trust the warlocks and has them killed and makes Gul'dan submit to him as he wakes up.

The pacing itself was pretty bad towards the middle and end.
It also gave you no sense in scale.
The first scene starts in Draenor, then Ironforge, then immediately cuts to Stormwind, then immediately cuts to Karazhan, then back to the Black Morass, back to Stormwind, then to Goldshire, then to Deadwind Pass, etc.
As someone who plays the game, I completely understood. My girlfriend however, had no clue how far they were traveling.
The sense of time from Stormwind to Goldshire was at least a 2 day travel.
Khadgar makes it all the way to Dalaran (which is floating? Uhh) in the far North lear Lordaeron. He is then immediately back to Stormwind to deliver news to the gang, and knew exactly what was happening after it was established Fel magic was incredibly dangerous and not well understood. Ben Foster acted the fuck out of his trainwreck of dialogue. The Medivh/Khadgar relationship was not properly translated.
The fight scenes between the Orcs were cool. The fight between Blackhand and Lothar was really bad. Gul'dan was cool, but again not properly translated from the novels.
The second movie will likely be a mashup of the ending of WC1 and some navy battles from WC2, culminating to the Battle of Blackrock, and the heroes going thru the Black Gate with the skull of Gul'dan.
The CGI is good. It looks shitty on Youtube, but it looked good on the silver screen.

Bowie Jr has said time and time again that the movie is BASED on the lore of WC1/Rise of the Horde/The Last Guardian and would have deliberate diferrences to to the source material. He also said it does not retcon or change the official canon as this is a diferent continuity. Even fucking Christie Golden who has written a bunch of books for the game & book canon has confirmed this on Twitter (she wrote 2 preview novels to the film continuity).

They had to cut 45min of footage, a few scenes like the orcs marching in Dun Murough for example are in the trailers. Gromm had lines aswell as other chieftans. The scene where Blackhand gets a new hand has a shot of Orgrimm, Kargath, Durotan, Grommash and Kilrogg standing next to each other. Nerzhul was not there, something in accordance with the ACTUAL canon, he was in a coma in Draenor. I loved how Gromm grabbed Lothars son sword without effort. I was expecting him to get instantly Gorehowld. Kargath is also seen fighting with the other chieftans. Gromm actually has a lot of silent screen time. Kargath is just pointing his arm blade and laughing near the end after the portal is closed.

Use of magic in azeroth makes it easier for demons and such to cross over, so yeah in a way.
The elves fo Quel'Thalas have wards(I think the runestones were part of that) for making spellcasting within that area safe.
Dalaran is protected in a similar way.
But with humans learning magic and rogue wizards using magic outside these types of wards demons can come through.
The council of Tirisfal imubed the guardian of Tirisfal to be able to fight these threats, because some demons are very powerful.
Medivh though is not the usual guardian, he wasn't chosen by the council, and he's been half possessed by a demon his entire life.
So maybe he was mostly just working on getting Gul'dan to cross over the last 6 years.

The movie objectively has poor pacing/writing/cringey dialogue at points.
It's certainly not less than a 50, but it's not that great as a film.
I'm willing to give a pass on that as a fan because they had to crunch together some very large elements to set up the universe right. No producer was going to give a new movie series like this a 2.5hr+ runtime like they did for LOTR, so they had to make cuts.
As far as normal viewers, there is a lot to love about this movie. Orcs look fucking amazing, they don't look like soulless monsters, they actually look like a legitimate other race with actual soul.
The world can be interesting at times and the fights were cool.
I went to see the movie with 4 people, 3 of which (including me) played WoW and 1 guy who couldn't give a fuck. The 1 guy that didn't give a fuck got really into the lore and started asking questions.
So it certainly has some appeal. I just don't think enough Americans are going to give it a chance unfortunately.

I don't know, the legion expanding across time was stated by a C-dev known for being shitfaced on twitter. In the HC raid guide it's stated that Archimonde has "Reached across time and space" with implications that it wasn't an alternate Archimonde like people thought, but the ONLY archimonde in existance that wanted revenge for Hyjal. The other ingame suggestion is the idea that the legion was pissed at AU Guldan and sent him to MU.
The problem with this idea is that there is one legion across every universe. As much as blizzard wants the legion to seem infinite, an infinite number of demons spread across an infinite number is slightly different universes is Infinite minus infinite.
To make matters worse, the "one" archimonde is attacking an AU draneor like 30-50 years in the past meaning the legion exists in a hyper present that exists outside of the series current present (I.E you fight Archimonde in the present, go back in time to fight him in an earlier battle and he recognizes you because he exists in a time flow separate from your own).
It's one of the dumbest concepts I've ever seen in a game, because it basically means these entities would not only be like the mimic from the Edge of Tomorrow on Steroids, but they couldn't exist because they could not be infinitely summoned or de-summoned across an infinite number of realities.
This doesn't even take into account the infinite number of non-demonic Archimondes or Kil'jadens in each reality, because there is only ONE demonic version of them.

Helll Archimonde was the boss of HC because Kil'jaden was revoked of his duties for failing to corrupt the orcs, something that would make perfect sense if it was an AU legion and our time travel bullshit foiled his plan.
But making him the same Archimonde from our time? Completely retarded and unnecessary
Even if we do except that "lol demons break reality" bullshit, it doesn't account for the fact that there are an infinite number of mortal Archimondes and Kil'jadens across an AU that in many potential realities would become demons.
How can their only be one then?

I think the bigger issue was how Archie died in HFC. I mean, even in tBC, it was made clear as day that we didn't kill Kil'jaden, as he just got sucked back into the portal.
But in Warcraft 3, and even in the CoT instance, Archie got pretty fucked.
But how does he die in WoD? He just falls over.
Sure he launched Guldan out into regular Azeroth, but compared to the other end of xpac bosses, Arthas and Deathwing had clear in depth deaths shown in both gameplay and a cutscene.
(And while people often choose not to remember it, there was alot of speculation if we really killed Illidan even back in tBC, and we obviously didn't kill Garrosh at the end of Mist, so those two don't count)
But I mean, apparently they wanted this to be Archie's final death as the mythic fight was in the twisting nether, but they backtracked on that logic at the last minute so I guess we gotta fight him again at some point.
