i have very fond memories of this game, but i found out a lot of people hated it. why is that?

it was a step down from the scale of the previous games. acclaim/iguana was also falling apart at that point so there were a lot of disagreements about how the game should have been developed.
the guys who worked on turok 2 said they wanted to do something completely different from the first game which is why there are no human enemies and there's not even a jungle level. they lost that design sense as the years went on and new people came into the company, so they ended up going through the motions near the end.
