Secondly, remember those tiny shrines you had to visit in Knights of the Nine? Yea, those were supposed to be full blown monasteries.
Thirdly, its town designs didn't make any goddamn sense. Ceyndhall was chinese, Bruma was medieval Moscow, Leyaween was medieval reimagination of Detroit, Chorrol was generic stone barbarian city. They didn't belong in the same game. Anvil, Skingrad and Kvatch were the only cities that managed to have their own look while still having Imperial look to them.

The way I saw it was like this; Morrowind was the most mystical, but had little realism. Oblivion had less mystical aspects, but more realism. Skyrim had the most realism, but little mysticism. The dragons themselves didn't feel like large mythical beasts that needed to be slain, as much as they just felt like oversized reptiles with powers that made no sense and worked as a contrived plot device.
