With the game releasing in october, and the amount of content they have revealed so far, it feels a lot like what happened with Battlefront.
Game will probably look great, it seems to have the "standard" battlefield gameplay, in the end i'll probably get it only when all DLC has been released and the price is lower.

As someone who hasn't touched battlefield since BFBC2
It looks like a re-skin of battlefield 4. Allied or axis the vehicles and weapons were interchangeable. (with allies using German styled tanks and zeppelins, allies using the Gewehr rifles etc)
Only 4 maps, everyone uses fully automatic guns and even the biplanes are just re-skins doing 90 degree upward maneuvers. This isn't even complaining about historical accuracy, or the fact that it's a first world war game that doesn't include the french - the largest allied combatant.
TLDR it looks like a shitty bf4 reskin, no point even making it ww1 except flavour

problem is, this game offers NOTHING significant compared to BF 3/4, by nature WW1 seting is restrictive compared to modern era, but you can use those restrictions at your advantage by shaping the gunplay/ balance in a diferent, never before seen form, but instead of a real change on gameplay, we have the same generic shooter (generic not in a negative sense) but without the posibilities of the modern era, so you end up with this reskin.

It's unrealistic as hell, I used to wait for hours for artillery to finish pounding then charge with captain's whistle when I was in Verdun. They kept nignogs away from us for obvious reasons. We pitied the guys with machine guns because they become stuck in a matter of seconds because of mud or dirt. Now everyone has machine guns.
Tanks. We don't have tanks going that fast because blitzkrieg was not introduced and tanks usually moved at infantry speed = 4km/hr when not changing positions. All in all, it's a dirty arcadey game that has nothing to do with WW1.

Trench warfare is mostly a meme. And by that I mean that it wasn't just a standoff on European plains. There absolutely were close quarter battles fighting for control of towns and cities. But trench definitely dominated since 19th century line tactics dominated military dogma at the time.
That said, this game looks like shit. Automatic weapons were certainly a thing, but really only saw large-scale implementation towards the very end of the war. What I saw was a BF3/4 reskin. Very disappointed.

really to answer OP, looking at BF1 has made me wish for a AoS with decent graphics and improved game-play (possibly using something like space-engineers terrain, so vehicles can drive over it.). sort of like red orchestra with space-engineers terrain or something (maybe with place-ables or something)

It's a battlefield game that's as arcadey as 1942. In other words you portrays all of WWI with the same realism and polish that you'd get if you had the average American high schooler describe WW1. Only they didn't add trenches because they don't want the casual babbies crying that they can't run and gun like the other BF titles.
It's WWI for someone who has no interest in WWI. It's BF that isn't Modern Military or WWII. So it's a BF that will stand out and easily sell a shitload. So it's a brilliantly marketed product that will get enough people believing in it to make it a smashing success.
I'll probably treat it like BF4 and wait to buy it when all 17 of it's dlc and premium shit is on sale and bundled together.

trench warfare was mostly a western front, italian front, and gallipoli phenomenon, the eastern, african, and middle eastern fronts didn't have it as much. you're absolutely right about the automatic weapons though, there were very few, and they were only used late in the war in very limited numbers. almost all mgs were crew served, and none of them could be fired from the shoulder while standing like in the game.

That's pretty much the experience of every battlefield game. Mostly just camping and being really cheap.
Rarely do you see conflicts like you do in the trailers, everyone's scattered and taking pot shots at each other anyway and the biggest menace is vehicles both the enemies and your own because your own is never where they're needed most and you need one to get anywhere or spend like 10 minutes running to get shot by a sniper on a mountain all the way over by enemy spawn.

Gun noises seem to have a good amount of oomph behind them.
The Cortana-esque announcer is definitely jarring, but it's probably a placeholder.
Obviously it's not going to be totally realistic regarding weapons, but Battlefield games aren't exactly known for historical accuracy.

Bolt: Manual Cycle
Semi: mechanical cycle single pull
Auto: Mechanical cycle assisted by access gas from the gun, so you could fire your gun simply by holding down the trigger.

The war started out with a bunch of battles that didn't involve trenches, after a bunch of losses on both sides the germans and french/brits both tried to find openings in the lines for counter attacks, this led to a great race to the sea and led to the creation of the trenches. The germans built the trenches to hold onto territory they captured and the french/brits made quick shittier trenches because they planned to make pushes through the german lines. Turns out there was just a massive stalemate but by the end of the war with new tactics and new technology there was more battles that were akin to WW2 style of warfare. WW1 being all trenches is a misconception, they were a massive part of it but there were plenty of urban battles and battles without trenches.

They were experimental for a reason.
They constantly fell apart, jammed, exploded, were horribly inaccurate (you were better off using a trench gun than an smg if you wanted even close quarters fights), and often times super weak.
This is suggesting an alternate reality where they had like 10-20 years+ to get all of the kinks out of those types of weapons... but then didn't go on to make better versions.
