I used to run a guild where I'd let anything go in chat. The game didn't have a guild roster with ranks, so most members didn't even know I was the guild leader. Whenever someone asked who was the guild leader, I just gave them a random name from the list of members.
We had a lot of members, and people seemed to auto regulate each others since they couldn't go cry about their issues to some guild leader or officer. Drama rarely happened, since it seems most of the time the point of drama is about giving a boot lick to the guild officers in some way or other.
