The Pitt if done correctly actually presents one of the more interesting conclusions to a major conflict in the Capital Wasteland, and one that I'm really fucking annoyed at because Bethesda missed a clear opportunity.
One of the big problems people have with F3 is what Bethesda did to the Brotherhood, which is why the Outcasts were tacked onto the game at the last minute (this is why they have no quests, and the first DLC is revolved around them even though you can substitute the outcasts with literally anyone)
What The Pitt presents is a means of which the Outcasts can utilize. Lyons and his Brotherhood run around the wastes claiming to be philanthropists; protecting project purity and protecting wastelanders. However, this is in total contrast to what they did to Pittsburgh, where they just went in and blew up a bunch of people. They didn't even fix any issues; all the raiders fled underground then reemerged under Ashur's leadership, and the trogg virus is still ranging on.
The Outcasts, using the pipboy on the dead Gary clone inside the Anchorage bunker, could track down Werner, travel to the Pitt, and use Ashur as a means of telling the idiots who follow Elder Lyons "hey you know this guy murdered a bunch of people somewhere else. I thought you were good guys now"

The Pitt is actually phenomenal for a standalone setting and it's a shame Fo4 didn't take place there instead. Well, maybe not, considering this is Bethesda.
Anyway, a fully-fleshed out Pitt would see everything from internal competition between Ashur's various warlords and lieutenants, rebellious factions of slaves, outside threats from the Wildmen and Trogs, corruption and plotting on behalf of the merchant class, and infiltration/sabotage from Institute Synths. There's a lot a potential for a really interesting narrative.

It does everything that Fallout does well. It gives throwback references without it being a complete retcon; it expands upon the existing mythos without being too bittersweet or different; it presents moral dilemmas with morally gray factions rather than Black and White bullshit and finally it shows a society that is rebuilding, and not one that is a desolate shit heap like the rest of Fallout 3.
It's a shame that it is a DLC, and that is so rushed.

It's not done to convince the Outcasts, it's done so to convince Lyon's Brotherhood to defect back to the original purpose of the Brotherhood.
Outcasts don't give a shit about The Pitt because they know the reasons as to why they attacked them. Lyon's has convinced all the new recruits in DC that the Brotherhood are there to help the wasteland. If the fresh recruits realise they have been lied to by Lyon's and the other elders, they'll either lose complete hope and just start shooting, or defect back to the original codex e.g the Outcasts.

My recent playthroughs I have let the DLC define my character. Just made a blank slate character, picked up some stuff from Goodsprings, then went and did DM at level 1.
It was fucking painful, but I turned my character into a non nonsense, really jump melee user who always goes overkill when fighting something e.g throwing down a couple of grenades on a corpse to make sure it's dead.

Those are off the top of my head and they all give you a pretty decent idea of what's going on in that particular quest. And worst comes to worst just read the quest description to the right. The game has some unhelpful ones if you don't get the reference like Volare! but most of the time they're perfectly fine, come off it.

I always play her quest only some time after taking her on as a companion, and only when first choosing the dialogue which pisses her off when you first see her in the bar, so that I imagine that their relationship starts off pretty cold at first.
I like to imagine it being the point where Cass and the Courier truly bond and become good friends, especially when they agree to kill the fuck out of Cass's enemies because Cass is helping towards killing the Courier's enemies.
If it weren't for that cuck ending which I pretend never happened, Cass would be the ultimate companion in terms of roleplaying a revenge-driven Courier whose solution to things is to kill it and everything it cares about.
