>In the past, there was no archiving of older data. So while we have the capability of doing that now, and in more recent years when we make changes we can ‘version’ the data, we didn’t have that back in 2004. And so as data changed, we effectively lost that stuff to history. And so we would have to go back and try to reverse-engineer it ourselves.
What the fuck
I thought that only asian software developers didn't keep old builds in the 2004-2006
>>
>>340850537
I really hope that nostalrius doesn't become a thing, it would be the end of wow lore, not like if Metzen weren't ruining it with muh Horde, but is better than no new expansions
>>
Assuming they save the data on the old servers, they sold and gave away original vanilla servers.
Just get the data from those
>>
>>340850537
Ok so if the original data doesnt exist then why was nost a thing
>>
>>340850537
>we lost the data to the original vanilla server guize
>don't mind all those vanilla and BC private servers, they're just fake
>>
>>340850537
This is just blizzard bullshitting hardcore.
No prorgammer in the world would ever accept this dumb fucking excuse.
>>
>>340850831
>all of those are bugged and half-functioning
hmmm
>>
If the Nost team could do it Blizzard can do it even better. This isn't an excuse.
>>
>>340850725
They rebuild the systems from the ground up.
Nost was rather professional about it.
>>
>>340850725
>>340850831
>Schreier: Don’t the Nostalrius people have that data?
>Chilton: No, they don’t actually. So what they did is went back and reverse-engineered it. They spent countless hours researching on YouTube, looking at, ‘OK how many hit points do you think that monster has, I think I saw a video that showed it with, you know, 2,152 hit points, so that’s the number of hit points we’re gonna give it.’ And they’re just kinda guessing and approximating on a lot of stuff. Which is cool, and they did an amazing job of making it feel like a very authentic experience. But ultimately the way they implement their data is in no way similar to the way we do it. So it’s not like we can even take that data and put it in the game, because they actually aren’t even really compatible - they have a completely different approach to creating content.
>>
>>340850537
>And so we would have to go back and try to reverse-engineer it ourselves
Except a bunch of sweaty nerds already did that for you. Stick 'em an inkling of your infinite money hoard in a dollar-sign bag and harvest the fruits of your non-labour, you triple nincompoops.
>>
>>340851042
>So it’s not like we can even take that data and put it in the game, because they actually aren’t even really compatible - they have a completely different approach to creating content.

So just let them do it. If you really have to protect your IP, license the game through them.

"First, they DO have the source code for Vanilla WoW. Code version control systems are not something new, as it has been a standard in the industry for a long time. With these systems, they can retrieve the code at any given previous backup date."

I think they have the server codes and client code, but are missing some files :
>This means that before re-launching vanilla realms, all of the data needed for the build processes has to be gathered in one place with the code. Not all of this information was under a version control system. In the end, whichever of these parts were lost at any point, they will have to be recreated: this is likely to take a lot of resources through a long development process.

Lurk more.

There's a blue post about legacy servers within the last few months. Blizzard's definition of legacy server is modern WoW without 'features' such as dungeon/raid finder, flying mounts, and some other things I can't remember off the top of my head.

It wouldn't be vanilla. It would be MODERN fucking WoW with less than a normal server has.
>>
>>340852547
That was the "pristine" server idea they talked about, not actual legacy servers, and that idea was pretty much shot down immediately.

Wot. They wipe those. It's not even explicitly what the OP is saying. See http://forum.nostalrius.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=44218. They have the patch version information, but that requires each asset from that patch version, which they don't have (and would have to be manually redesigned).

Start with day trading and low-risk investments. I started with Scottrade about a decade ago and now just use Robinhood.
You'll need some startup capital and some funds to play around with. All in all, it's basically gambling based on real-life events.

>WHAT IS VERSION CONTROL

Holy fuck, the fact that Blizzdrones are falling for this shit is retarded.

By the way, in the 90's there were huge archiving efforts, not on the part of a big organisation, but there were hundreds if not thousands of sites run by hobbyists that archived mods and shit for video games.

Well, Gamefront and the like wasn't what I was talking about really since they were not as big in the 90's, but you're absolutely right. Gamefront, moddb etc. were the next evolution from the scattered hobbyist sites we had before that.

I'll probably be called a jadedfag, but I miss the 90's and early millennial years.
>>
>>340850980
Nostalrius used open source emulatiom that had been developed and used across other private servers for years. By the time nostalrius came around. Most original Wow content up to wotlk was scripted and working properly. Really what they did most was market it properly.

You are completely ignoring the huge amount of scripting they had to do.
All of their systems were proprietary.

Mangos is still buggy as shit hence why every server has to bugfix the same god damn quests and everytime.
