Do people really not think Warped is as good as 2? Warped is the most fun of the original trio imo. Crash 2 is the BEST game of the originals, but Warped is the most fun.

Wrath of Cortex was actually my first Crash game, and I though it was pretty fun so I got the original trilogy and those games were great.

WoC wasn't that bad but if you play it after the originals it feels like just a blander version of them with shinier graphics. (Also holy shit those loading times were awful)

Is Twinsanity actually worth playing? All I know about it is the music is neat and some people seem to think it's a fun game

Warped levels are built around Speed running, which is why they gave the run power up to Crash and created Relicsfor time trials.
And that is not a bad thing, it's a great thing. I do think Crash 3 stages are the best designed one in the series. Level design in Warped is spot on.

What makes 3 inferior to 2 are the terrible vehicle stages. 2's jetpack stages were horrible too but at least they were two or three and that's it.
3 has the best final boss in the series too.

Crash 2 had 11 different level themes, and Crash 3 had 10.

Crash 2 had an even amount of gimmick levels and all themes had either 3 or 2 levels in them. Crash had 3 gimmick themes out of 11 for a total of 9 out of 27. 33% (This includes the Stream levels and the jet board, discounting this we get 6 out of 27, for 22%)

Crash 3 was a lot worse. It had 5 of it's themes dedicated to vehicles and the other 5 to platforming. This equals a total of 17 levels out of 30 for 56%. (If you wish you can discount Dino Might and Eggipus Rex for 15 out of 30- 50%)

So yeah, Crash 3 is gimmicky as balls

You will either enjoy or hate Twinsanity, there's really no in between. It doesn't adhere to the convention of having a hub area that you access levels from and the platforming isn't very difficult really, but it's kind of a fun little quirky game with some decent self referential humor and stuff like that.

Blue gem though

The only reasoning I can see for that would be "Oh I got the clear gem by breaking the boxes what if I didn't break any?" And then the red gem is clear shown in the next level to hint that not all the coloured gems solutions are the same.

I wish the kept the same method of finding hidden warps. Death Routes are alright, but don't give the same feeling of surprise when you find it.

I always forget the Blue Gem in that regard.

On the other hand, I can't fault them for doing things like that. It's a short game. It needs difficulty and parts that really make you think to increase the length and justify the cost you put to get it.

At very least the games are kind enough to label what levels have what gems, so you don't have to redo everything going "WHERE IS THAT DAMN FOURTH BLUE GEM"

Road levels are too samey because the only damn thing that changes is the Police Car behavior.

Water levels aren't really gimmicks because they play like any other water levels in any platformer ever.

Jet Ski levels at least had some semblance of level design to them. Water physics can screw you over but they're easy unless you drive like a drunk.

I remember hearing back some time he had trouble uploading his music for copyright reasons so its good that he's able to get something out now. Back in the days, devs would be careful at the size of their software, because of space limitations. They tried to keep the game as light as possible, few compressed videos, very compressed music, more reliance on polygons than textures. Basically, keeping the game polished.
Something only Nintendo and few other devs keep doing today. Most companies just throw shit into a bluray like uncompressed music and other heavy shit like unusued assets, who cares, there's a lot of space! That's why most PC games are over 10 GB for instance.

Looking back it certainly relied on more gimmicks than 2 did.

This was part of the belief that you can't just make Crash 2 again and justify it as a sequel, and it's not like they were terrible, but the result is Crash 2 is the more honest, vanilla game since it refines Crash 1's gameplay and ties it consistently into the overall game.

And in general whilst it's easy to appreciate the more universal time travel theme, Crash Bandicoot stuck to unique jungle environments and so on and it means the game has more of a unique quality to it. Crash 3 is more of a generic platformer in comparison.

Fun as in, I find the titans, beat em up and platforming gameplay enjoyable, even the skating areas are good, and I love how you can upgrade them in MoM.
