I think the thing with these areas (frigid outskirts, iron passage and cave of the dead) are built as coop sections in mind. I also think these areas are one of the reasons to test out the added phantom population in scholar patch which shows with those altars as landmarks for summon setup (even NPC phantoms exists for these stages). These areas might also be prototypes or inspirations for chalice dungeons in BB.

the Jailers from Irythill Dungeon are complete, 100% bullshit

probably the only instance where "artificial difficulty" is completely legitimate and accurate in a Souls game. There's no way to avoid it (outside of not going through Irythill Dungeon, which you have to do to complete the game because of Yhorim), and they're placed at the most inconvenient and cheap places in the area. Both of those alone are perfectly fine seeing as the game is all about throwing you into those kinds of situations. But add in the completely cheap and unfair ability to completely reduce your overall health and it's complete bullshit.

Had they done something along the lines of making you super vulnerable to fire/heat in their presence, or having them slow/stun you if you meet their gaze, or anything else that makes complete sense in the world of DS3, there would be no problem at all. But the fact that the only challenge these enemies possess is to directly alter the game itself in their favor is complete and utter bullshit.

In DS1, in the valley before pinwheel. Fuck them, fuck them and their mothers. Fuck that they're in a tiny valley. Fuck that they will do continuous damage if they even get anywhere near your character, fuck that it sends eight of them at you at the same time.

Everywhere else? They aren't so bad. Kind of annoying in the DS2 Skeleton Lord fight simply because there are 30 other skeletons I'm trying to deal with, and here comes these fuckers rollin' all over me.

It depends entirely on the encounter. Rolling near 70% is suicide because some enemies have more tracking than they should and end up hitting you anyways(unless you time the roll perfectly). Medium shields are much weaker than in DS1 but upgrading does make a big difference, and it feels like both rolling and shields were nerfed in order to encourage weaving around enemies, although they did a fuck all job of showing that if so.

And the earliest 100% shields you can get are Royal Kite Shield at 4 units and Drangleic Shield at 6 units. It's only really a problem if you're a magician with base Vitality.

STR build or Dex build that doesn't have a pokey weapon results in pain. Best counter to them I've found is to herd them into doorways and just poke so they can't flip around and spam knives, but that clearly won't work for everyone.

They're extremely weak to bleed. I had a +2 Bandit's Dagger and it was bleeding them on every single hit. Killed them almost instantly.

Quelaag is the final exam for acknowledging attack telegraphs, since she's the first boss with a dangerous attack whose animation you can actually miss if you're not paying attention. She's pretty tanky and the lava + jump attacks can cause some shenanigans too.

Gaping Dragon is the one that you shouldn't be having problems with ever once you recognise its 2 notable attacks.

You can't access TotG before getting the Lordvessel, the entrance is blocked off by yellow fog after Pinwheel's arena. I don't know if he means ascending through the Catacombs, which is a bitch in itself. Great Hollow is not really that hard to ascend, it's more just surprising that you can do it. Once you actually try it's pretty obvious what you have to do.

Are you guys serious? Just roll towards them and slightly to the left, so towards their right side. This evades all of their attacks and puts you at their backside, leaving them vulnerable to you exploiting their sitting attack.
