No one is arguing the game isn't fun or unbalancedexcept Gief players,but it has more to do with everything outside of the actual competitive part. There's just simply nothing to do in the game if you don't enjoy fighting others online or your friends. There's no wacky, fun modes like World Tournament from Alpha 3, or even the simple bonus stages like car-wrecking one or Break-the-Barrels. Trials weren't there at launch (and now that they are, most of them are jump-in, non-optimal combos,) Survival isn't fun, and the game just feels like it's missing something whenever you burn out from playing other people. I used to be one of those people that just played through Arcade mode on weekends, and while I eventually started going online, it sucks to have nothing to fall back on when I'm on my 10th losing streak straight.

Something /v/ doesn't like, SFV doesn't require as much time to get into. It's made for fighting game casuals. Say what you want about SF4 but that game took fuck loads of time to get into the upper echelons of skill in online mode. SFV high level play doesn't look much different from mid-level play. There is no variability, not creativity allowed, it's all hodgepodged into the same basic boring structure. All the characters have the nearly the same tactics.

The throw/shimmy/frame trap RPS of SFV are mixups, but like I said that's basically all there is. I guess some characters have overheads, but they're slow, deal small damage, and are +0 on hit, so you hardly get anything out of it unless you can close out a round.

V system: Severely lacking in complexity and technicality. There's really no variation in what it can be used for. V-trigger is used as either a ghetto hit confirm to extend a combo (usually into some ridiculous 60-70% CA finisher that is extremely easy to execute) or to make a bad poke safe. V-skill is a glorified one button special... let's not fool ourselves it being any more than that. V-reversal is a neat idea but it's very limited in what you use it for.
Jab Fighter V: One argument against 4 was the usage of jabs into high damage combos. Now you have a game where wake-up jab is an extremely powerful option, jabs xx special/vtrigger xx CA pretty much occurs every match, and jabs are a more viable anti-air/prevents crossups better than antiair specials.
Characters: The characters are boring. They all play very similar. There's barely any variation in their gameplay. All of them are 'different', but the way Capcom has developed balance has simply resulted in a very homogenized cast who generally are aiming for the same thing: easy to land CA links.
Combo variation: There is none. Flat out. Every character plays the same way. Each character has 3-4 BnB combos and that's it. It's extremely repetitive, no player can make their character their own, and they all look the same. Whereas in 4, you could see massive differences between a player's character, ie. Poongko vs Dashio's Seth, Bonchan vs Ryan Hart's Sagat, Daigo vs Ghandi's Ryu.

Not really. Dhalsim can pretty much chip away at his opponent from the distance - that's how he is supposed to be played anyway. Chun dominates the mid and close range with her normals while Nash can either zone, apply hit and run tactics or go in hard. While they can be played rushdown, their rushdown game greatly varies, though. Sim has to rely on Yoga Flame or teleport setups, Chun has to probe for additional damage on wake up and Nash can't do shit without his V-Trigger.
It doesn't even matter that much since the game resets to neutral anyway every time you quick rise.
