I put myself in Buddy's shoes and from her perspective Brad was just a destructive monster who did nothing but kill everyone who she ever cared about and denied her the freedom she wanted. Brad deserved the hug, but I felt it wasn't in Buddy's character.

I think it makes sense to have it before as killing his last few friends in his life is the final push that starts his joy transformation, which gives him the strength to fight that army

The party showing up was meant to be a moment of false hope, having us believe that Brad's friends arrived to help fight against the impossible odds, only for them to be the first thing that he loses. Plus, Rando was a suitably tragic final boss.

It's not like Buddy hadn't seen Brad have issues with his drug abuse before.
Couple that with what her uncles told her and the way that Brad was killing everyone who seemed to want to protect her, and I could see why she would have a pretty warped perspective of him.
