Yeah it did, it's called the spindash button. Only difference was it had no meter and you had to spam it, but in the Adventure games the spindash was functionally the same as boost, and like the boost games the Adventure levels were designed around gofast and automation instead of actual platforming, especially in Adventure 2.

Speedrunning SA2 basically involves mashing spindash until the button is dust.

The reason why it's functionally the same in the Adventure games is because you didn't even need to stop to spindash, meaning you could just spam it the entire level. The only thing boost did was let you just hold the button down and give you a meter.

Wrong. Boost makes you invincible and can only increase acceleration in your current direction. SA1 spin dash decelerates after the initial speed boost until you press b to return to a run, in which case you are vulnerable, also you have much more control of movement as you can stop on a dime and point it in any direction. Not to mention the spin dash wasn't on a meter.

Wrong. Mashing the b button results in somersaults, probably to fix the sa1 exploit without getting rid of being able to spin dash without coming to a complete stop.
