how can you tell a game is using Physically Based Rendering? i dont know the difference. i think old games like even l4d2 look pretty accurate in lighting and materials
also, game tech thread
>>340673185
why do you even care? if its good looking - its good looking 3 polygons with some lightning or 2 millions with pixar production values.
it was fun through 1995 to 2008. now its fucking nothing and will never be jawdropping.

that image is weird.
also, i care because im a huge fan of graphics tech and im gonna be buying a 1070 or something soon so i need to update and get familiar with the new tech in gaymes

I'm curious too
I know everybody's gone to the rapture uses it but the port is so badly done that LOD above minimum will destroy the framerate
>>340674109
you are to late anon. nothing of interest in graphics department.
physically based rendering is something like RGB and CMYK - just the same tool from the other persepective.
PBR easier to use to create accurate looking materials. thats it, nothing fancy
2 sliders against 3-4-5 or more, just unification

>Fallout 4 uses pbr
>Still uses rbg values for color
So it's a meme like I thought.
is this image accurate? does pbr really make that big of a difference? i could have swored you could do similar things on ps3/360.

The only difference I see is that the gun on the left is a different color. Why the fuck is everyone getting a chubby from pbr?
>>340676405
PBR is a great tool for developers, it's not a some unique gimmik that make your game looks awesome, it's all in the hands of devs.
PBR is unseparable with 3d sculpting and allegorithmic textures, look at this shit:

Basically, instead of using high res photos, and making high poly from scratch to build a good looking normal map, they just imitate the physics process of the surface using pbr, creating good looking textures. It's much more easier than using old technics.
>>340676857
I see no difference between the two guns in >>340676405 other then a different color.
>>340677745
Yeah, but for the artist it was easier and faster to make the weapon on the right.
>>340676509

Look at the light reflections around the bolt and the reflection on the lens, the lighting on the left gun is much more basic than the one on the right. PBR allows light to realistically bounce back off an object instead of appearing to go through it.
