I think most people just haven't taken the time to adapt or try the alternate movement setting with a gamepad. Once you learn to dodge and not roll, and use the right oils, potions, etc. Fights will become truly enjoyable.

I really like Witcher 3, and before the unpolished DLCs even loved it, but I think there must be something wrong with you if you think the Witcher 3 open world is somehow interesting and not generic as fuck. They didn't even bother to actually add some fantasy shit, it's just realistic, generic Speed Tree fields, have a monster nest here and a bandit hideout there. Also some generic villages that don't offer anything but a "hunt generic monster" quest and a salesman. Let's not even talk about Skellige and what CDPR was thinking with this empty sea and all those islands that have less content than small Wind Waker islands.

Devoted a year of my life to this game, hardly used Fast Travel, cantered long distances to each contract point...all the praise for the visuals and lore, the story and the beautiful things really are masterpiece tier quality. Overdrive probably makes it one of the most complex and fast-paced JRPG combat systems there are and the glitchy, disgusting piece of shit combat of Witcher 3 with the most unsatsifying hits you can land in a game with many hits literally just going through your enemy but still count without even a sound feedback (often happens when fighting wyvern and anything similar), getting killed by ghost hits, having to navitage through an awful menu if you want to switch bombs or drink a third potion (they fixed this after a few months, granted), mechanics often not working as described, gameplay basic elements like jumping getting overwritten so it happens you're stuck in a hole or on your boat, arts being either over- or underpowered if not completely useless, the most useless crossbow in video game history with even its gimmick which was promoted in trailers (shooting flying monsters) being completely pointless and cinematic finishers that literally make no sense and only waste your time, also awful controls in general don't bother you.
