One could argue that the Tempestus scions (storm troopers) are sorta space marines in the context of that image, but the image doesnt even show them, it shows a regular grunt guardsman, one of the mud-stompers whose only job is to die with a flashlight in hand slowing down the enemy till big boys arrive or drown the enemy in corpses.
Helghast
Wasted design on a shitty game.
>>340631332
Here's what Robert Heinleins space marines looked like (at least according to nips, but at least they got their weapons and capabilities correct).
either doom or elite force. if you're going for zero planning, carnage and destruction doom marine is best but if you want a more squad based marine which has proper mission briefings beforehand than go with elite force
the rest are just boring grunts instead of literally being infantry support for a spaceship

Speaking of the movie vs book.
How the hell did they get the marines so absolutely wrong?
>In book
>Power armored highly trained soldiers armed with mini-nukes and wide array of high explosives, jumping all over the places thanks to their boost packs
>Training is gruesome and meant to turn every man into one man army
>Troopers are constantly told that they should just go home and forget about being a soldier
>In Movie
>weapons are Cadia pattern wet T-shirt and a Mordian pattern stubber
>Essentially Imperial guard the movie
>Significantly less gruesome training regime
>Quitting is highly stigmatized
>>340635227
>How the hell did they get the marines so absolutely wrong?
>Verhoeven had never read the book, and attempted to read it for the film, but it made him "bored and depressed", so he read only a few chapters:

The ISA are really underrated and over shadowed by the Helghast in design though. They're my favourite space marine design because they feel so grounded and gritty but are sci-fi enough without feeling like 21st century soldiers dropped a hundred years into the future.

>This makes me sad that Starship Troopers is my favorite movie.
>The film includes visual allusions to propaganda films such as Why We Fight, Triumph of the Will and wartime newsreels, and the symbols, and certain clothing styles
>Verhoeven stated in 1997 that the first scene of the film—an advertisement for the mobile infantry—was adapted shot-for-shot from a scene in Leni Riefenstahl’s Triumph of the Will (1935), specifically an outdoor rally for the Reichsarbeitsdienst.
that propaganda sure is effective.
honestly, it's easy to see how rule of cool makes shit look cool, and in retrospect it's pretty crazy how you can see the propaganda elements. even so, verohoeven is a pretty cool guy.The cast agreed to do the co-ed shower scene only if Verhoeven agreed to direct the scene naked, which he did.[7]

sea ships, space ships, not one fucking ounce of difference in utility. ships carry marines, marines deploy on land, navy eat soggy biscuits, same shit different day.

The novels handle all of this sort of stuff way better then the games do.
>>340637118
Spartans in halo aren't even really space marines.
The marines in halo are space marines. The spartans are more like "space whatever hitler's planned supersolider secret police force idea was"
They are kidnapped kids put through training from hell and augmentation procedures with a 50% failure rate (where failure meant death or horrible agonizing disfigurements) to act as a secret police force to keep the outer colonies from gain Independence and to assassinate/wuell key rebel leaders and movements.
It's shady as fuck. There's not a single fucking faction in halo that are "good guys".

>>340637981
>(where failure meant death or horrible agonizing disfigurements)
Wrong. Few of the washouts died or were physically crippled. Most ended up with deskjobs at ONI to keep them quiet, and only 1 Spartan has been shown to miss or be emotionally affected by the removal from their parents, which was in Legends anyways.
Stop shilling 343's "waaaah tha spertans r so saad ;___;" crap. In the original stories the kids got over the issue incredibly quickly since half the job of their trainers was to be surrogate parents.
>>340638287
ODSTs are Navy Seals, though they act as supplementary forces to the Marine infantry for most of the series.

rangers can form the spear-tip of direct action operations, but navy seals don't have the manpower. also, that would be kind of intruding on army's turf. only reason navy seals went in to kill OBL was because JSOC was commanded by mcraven, a navy admiral. if it had been an army commander, rangers or sf would get sent in. if it was a marine commander, marine force recon, if it was air force, pjs?
anyway, the point is that navy seals are organized into teams, while rangers are organized under the an infantry regiment (around 3000 men).
also, navy seals supposedly suck at direct action, they take a lot of casualties because their infantry foundation is weak. good for raids and demos, but that's like most SF, they're all finely-tuned vehicles with specific missions in mind.
Helghast. Even though they're a blatant rip off of Panzer Cop they're still the best looking.

Aliens was "let's put all these amped-up jarheads in way over their heads and watch as they totally fall to bits"

In the Aliens movie, you can see how they just act like meatheads to protect their sanity. They tell themselfes they are tough and superior, but they really do everything to get off the planet and never fire a bullet themselfes.
In the Starship Troopers movie, it is kind of the opposite. Everyone is just a regular person until they get stripped of their identities and given the army treatment.

>Wrong. Few of the washouts died or were physically crippled.
I don't think so. IIRC, there were 300 initial cannidates, but this got cut in half twice, down to 150 and then 75.
Looking at halopedia (not the wikia site, since the wikia site is shit), it says that 12 s2's were discharged as a result of augmentation failure, and most were severely crippled, and that 30 officially died as a result of them, but 5 of those 30 actually lived and it was ONI shenanigans.
So, that's 37 of 75 individuals, or 49%, AKA nearly exactly what I said.
>Stop shilling 343's "waaaah tha spertans r so saad ;___;" crap. In the original stories the kids got over the issue incredibly quickly since half the job of their trainers was to be surrogate parents.
That's not something 343 invented and you'd have to be retarded to think so. You even mention legends in your post, the fuck do you think Homecoming was about?
Anyways, moral ambiguity and making sacrifices is a central theme running throughout the halo series and it has been from the start.
UNSC vs innies, ONI and the S2 program, The foreunner's activation of the Halo array, the prophet's labeling of the humanity as heretics to preserve the covenant, etc
It's been there literally from the foundation of the series. 343 went progressively more and more retarded with each travis book, no doubt, but that doesn't mean it's not and shouldn't be explored as something unethical.

While not exactly "space" per se, I'm pretty fond of the PSICOM Soldiers from Final Fantasy 13. Power armor shaped like old fashioned plate armor pretty much exemplifies the unique Final Fantasy science-fantasy feel.
Galactic Federation marines from Metroid are pretty cool, but they lose points for having their guns integrated in to their armor. That doesn't really work unless you're Samus. Cerberus soldiers from Mass Effect 3 are pretty slick too
