Not really its more or less blunt defense and slice defense and stamina. Plus you can have to get a good play style of your own in combat. I've seen scrubs already from the starting zone kicking the other factions ass with some bad ass armor meant to block slice weapons. Plus if you think you could just switch off and on think again changing gear even in a town or while not even in combat takes a couple of seconds. I'm really liking it more about skill more than levels and gear just think chivalry: medival warfare mixed with an mmo it's pretty much that
