Warcraft 2 was the Second War.
First War is the Horde entering Azeroth, attacking Stormwind and beating the Humans, destroying Stormwind. Orgrim kills Blackhand, becomes the Warchief of the Horde, kills Gul'Dan's Shadow Council. Lothar, Khadgar and King Llane kill Medivh who was working with the orcs under the corruption of the demon Sargeras. Garona who was Medivhs lover and friend of Lothar and Llane, assassinates the King. The Humans that escape are lead by Lothar and head to Lordaeron where they create the Alliance.
Second War is Orgrim leading the Hrode to conquer Azeroth, Gul'Dan makes him Ogre Magi, Death Knights and they enslave Dragons. They also ally themselves with Trolls. Lothar is the leader of the Alliance, a bunch of Knights are made Paladins and everything comes to head in a final battle. Gul'Dan betrays the Horde and fucks off to die by demons looking for Sargeras Skull for more demonic power. Lacking Magical support the Horde loses but not after Orgrim crushes Lothars skull with the Doomhammer in a 1v1 fight.

I know warcraft lore like the back of my hand (before WoW fucked it up) and I thought the movie was alright. I'd say it was actually pretty good whenever orcs were on screen but the human parts were pretty boring. I get why they changed a lot of stuff around. Portraying the full series of events from the original lore on the Orc side could be a 2 hour movie all on its own.
I'll tell you one thing, Grom Hellscream looked fucking badass. He pops up in the background fairly often but never says anything. I hope we get sequels just to have him become a central character for a while before he bites it.

When Orgrim Doomhammer dropped the hammer (literally) on the warlocks in the Horde and was about to kill Gul'dan as well, Gul'dan convinced him to show mercy by promising to raise dead Orcs as Death Knights, which he did. I can`t remember the last time i was this bored during a movie. There were like 1 or 2 cool looking scenes like when gul'dan kills the deer , but that dosn`t excuse almost 2 hours of NOTHING HAPPENING
The CG looks okay on some parts, and absolutely terrible on other parts. Every time an actor is alone on screen with a CG character, (like when Lothar threatens to kill the orc if that wolf comes any closer ) the actor usually dosn't move at all, because they don' know what they are supposed to react to.

I've played wow 6 years, played all warcraft rts in their prime. And let me tell you i definitely did not love the movie.
The reports are correct, Guldan and the orcs overall is the good bit as the vfx are very well done, but the alliance actors are bad, the editing is clumsy, and the storytelling flow is weird to say the least.
This movie doesn't even spend a single minute trying to present and explain draenor, azeroth, the kingdoms or the clans. Not a minute. They don't even explain what the guardian is besides this cheesy line: 'I am the Guardian, I will protect Azeroth". The movie doesn't explain Medivh's corruption.
Dominic Cooper was incredibly bad, he had nothing kingly about him and delivered 90% of his cheesy lines like a soulless robot. Patton was apparently competing with him as to decide who was the most terrible actor. Foster was very hit or miss. Khadgar and Lothar were the only 2 characters somewhat well adapted/acted on the alliance side.
The romance plot line between Lothar and Garona was utter shit, borderline cringe. The plotline about Lothar and his son was completely skippable, it did not matter in any meaningful way at all.
The cinematography was all over the place. You have great camera work and you have pissing poor camera work. You have amazingly well lit scenes and you have horribly lit scenes (act 3 karazhan stands out as incredibly bad).
The music was ok but very forgettable, too little from the games and only one theme truly stands out. Also I can't remember the last time I saw the title screen used twice in a movie. That felt so fucking weird and completely out of place.
This movie stinks of meddling from several parties. The universal execs, the blizzard execs, the legendary execs, and ofc Duncan Jones. I would be very curious to see a longer cut and get a better feel of what Jones's vision was. We've ended up with a flawed adaptation IMO.

here is a general rundown of the backstory to the events that the movie was supposed to depict
There was a race called the Titans, they traveled through the universe. They traveled from planet to planet and brought order to chaos. They had a champion named Sargeras. He went through the universe looking for evil creatures and imprisoning them. He does this for such a long time, that he starts to question his quest. He starts to wonder whether there is actually a point to bringing order to the universe when the only constant in the universe seems to be chaos. He is driven mad by this and frees the demons he imprisoned, forms the Burning Legion with the goal of burning the whole universe down and undoing the work of the Titans.
One of the first things he does is go to a planet called Argus and recruit a race called the Eredar. The Eredar are masters of magic, and he sees in them formidable lieutenants for his army. He approaches them with an offer. Two of the three leaders of the Eredar accept his offer. Archimonde and Kil'jaeden, and a majority of the Eredar get turned into demons and join the Burning Crusade. The third leader, the Prophet Velen, has a vision brought to him by mystical creatures of light, called the Naaru, that warns him of the evil of Sargeras and his "gift", and makes him decide to turn down the offer, take the few Eredar that rejected the offer as well, and run.

If you show this backstory to anyone who has watched the movie, do you think they would feel you're talking about the same movie? Of course to everyone who has watched the movie and isn't familiar with Warcraft the movie just looked like a poor version of Lord of the Rings, with bad acting, bad characters and a boring plot.
And I know that that is just what orcs and humans was, but warcraft has expanded since orcs and humans, and the beginning of the story would've pretty much been Rise of the Horde, and they should've started there.
