>>
>>340604845
You know why? Even at the time the graphics were dated. They left them dated while they added more and more and more to the story, the depth of interactions, the levels, etc. And they realized they could keep adding because of leaps in technology.

This could easily happen again, really and truly all it would take is a AAA company willing to give proper time and money to a game with the graphical fidelity of a late PS2 game, focusing on depth of everything at the expensive of graphics.

Formed in the early 1930s as two separate companies, The Frito Company and H.W. Lay & Company. The two merged in 1961 to form Frito-Lay, Inc. Four years later, in 1965, Frito-Lay, Inc. merged with the Pepsi-Cola Company, resulting in the formation of PepsiCo, Inc. Since that time, Frito-Lay has operated as a wholly owned subsidiary of PepsiCo. I have Geoff Keighley in place though.

What do you think of the Mankind Divided footage lads?

I shamefully am kind of glad the graphics aren't that improved from HR since that means I don't have to upgrade yet, and I expect Dishonored 2 to not be a graphical powerhouse either.
>>
>>340607478
Human Revolution lacks a skill system and any sort of meaningful choice (you can shoot any gun and pick up every augmentation). The level design is also generally more restrictive and there's not nearly as much choice in the approach. Personally I think HR is somewhat the opposite of DX in that it starts off fun but gets pretty crappy toward the end (vs DX where the first few levels without funaugs are kind of a drag).

No skill system was good and bad. The specialisation really added to the RPG feeling, and even though dehrrr did have virtually the same upgrades or better as Praxis augments, it didn't feel the same.
Takedowns completely replaced the need for melee weapons of all kinds. I love melee and ran it for Bioshock and now again in DX, so this was a copout I thought.
The story in DXHR also felt like it was slowly collapsing towards the end, whereas in DX it was expanding and growing deeper and more interesting.
Also, lockpicking? Was this even in DXHR? Even still, I like that DXHR replaced features of DX with more interesting things to do, like replacing multitool/lockpick click-and-wait with the hacking minigame, adding in the dialogue and CASIE minigames, both are good. I really can't think of that many gameplay things that they worsened.
>>
>>340608181
I feel like HR's skills focused a lot more on stealth. The overall game design seemed to be built around that.

I don't really care about the graphics at all as long as they're serviceable. I'm more worried about it keeping all of HR's flaws and making things a bit worse by making Jensen too powerful/introducing powercreep from the get go (the ranged multistun pretty OP). Not that JC didn't become a little absurd in the first game.
>>
>>340607478
for me the story easily beats even most movies, the richness of it and the (then) originality.
also atmosphere was extremely well done with every npc and map so distinct, just look how many people can quote lines by memory that you may not even encounter in a playthrough.
now add multiple non-linear approaches to any given mission and a cyberpunk setting that can live without current-day anime tropes and you got a perfect game there.
the newer ones couldn't just live up to the same level.
just an example, but it annoyed me to no end that there are basically just 2 main hubs in HR and so damn devoid of secret corners to explore.
also in DX you have tons of small things you will encounter for the first time every playthrough, no other game I played manages to do that.

Takedowns in dx1 were either
1)instantaneous knockouts, in which case they might as well be command grabs,
2)not instantaneous, in which case whatever you were trying to do has failed and you've probably just been headshot by a commando, so you reload.

I don't understand this complaint. Melee in DX was terrible and every application of it other than running a jedi build was sneaking up behind people and trying to drop them in one.

Just found Smuggler. The prod is great for takedowns from behind but whenever I hit someone with a tranq dart, everyone is alerted to my position so I have to keep running away until the music stops, only to take another pot shot and hit a cunt with a dart until everyone in the area is down.

Baton. Strong non-lethal melee that will often incapacitate when you hit someone in the back of the chest. Pepper spray also hugely increases the damage your weapons do, so you can incap faster, or just blind them. Basically the same as gas grenades, though with less warning.
Crossbow tranquiliser damage ticks also stop people using alarm panels.

This thread makes me want to replay DE so bad, but I'm right in the middle of a TW3 NG+ for BW. I don't know if there are any games apart from DE, PS:T and Morrowind that create this passionate need to load them up. I alredy did my PS:T run of the year, I guess this means it's time for Deus Ex.

>>340624368
Quick note on the baton. The damage it does is based on distance. Since it's a melee weapon you'd think that doesn't matter, but it does. You may have noticed that sometimes the baton knocks people out in one hit and sometimes it doesn't. In order to get a guaranteed knockout on most enemies, you need to crouchwalk into your target and touch them with your body. It won't actually alert them. Now that there's 0 distance, the damage won't take a penalty and you'll hit the KO threshold.
>>
>>340627704
If you're gonna replay Deus Ex again, you may want to consider the somewhat new GMDX mod. It's probably one of the best mods for the game. Unlike other mods, it actually improves what's there instead of changing things around.

I personally don't like any kind of mods, specially visual ones. I prefer to play the game as it was originally designed, at least on the first playthrough.

And high res textures on low poly models from 2000 is like using 4K textures on minecraft. With that being said, I think New Vision is pretty good and tries to be as consistent with the game as possible. Stay away from the high res character models though, they are shit.

Ignore Revision too.

I could never get into the game but I've decided to try again as I've got nothing to do this weekend, this time with New Vision and I'm enjoying it more now. I don't plan to get any other mods, all I got was NV and an unofficial patch for bugs. NV also came with a launcher that lets me play in 1920x1080 which is great too.

Man, I can't believe people actually feel that way. It sucks everyone needs to be handheld these days. Back then it was fucking amazing, you weren't expecting such an open area from a shooter, so you go explore to see what the bounds of the map are, and you find the only boundary is the edge of the map, and you realize "holy shit, you can go everywhere here", and then you spend hours exploring and discovering all the shit on the island, encountering crazy strong robot guards and shit, until you finally find where you're supposed to go, and even in there there's like five or six levels, a bunch of hidden stuff like Hermann in the basement cells, etc.

It was such a breath of fresh air. I was utterly dumbfounded and figured that's where FPSes were headed, because it was so fucking good.

Instead, we got linear corridor shooters. Thanks, casuals, your unending need to be dragged along the entire way by the game, else you'd piss your pants in confusion, led to a decade and a half long stagnation, which we're only now starting to move out of.

It was chest-high walls: the game before that was a fucking meme. You had no fun augs, shit weapons, shit skills, and had to wait for scant openings in patrol routes to move around undetected.

That is a bad opening level. Maybe you enjoy it now, nostalgiafags, but that's because you played the shit out of it and know every possible route. That shit is not fun to look for when you've got no experience with the game and the game gives you no boons to make it enjoyable outside of save-scumming like a tard.

You want a good opening level? DN3D has Deus Ex beat to a pulp in every respect for level design.

The one paying a good portion of that $750 a pill is hospitals that treat the disease and the insurer (again) handles most of the difference. No company has altruistic motives, they're there to make money. But a good deal of that money goes towards finding an anti-infection drug that's better than what they have now. Also that drug had been sitting practically unused since the 60's and they only own the patent of the drug in the United States. Hardly a monopoly. It'd be like buying a Datsun factory, remaking old Datsun models, and selling them at much higher prices because only a small market would buy that car.

Nobody else is allowed to sell Panasonic brand TV's other than Panasonic too. There's nothing stopping a medical company from creating a drug similar to Daraprim and making it cheaper but there's practically no market for the drug in the first place.

Well they wanted to casualise melee because hitting people is hard. However not having it drain your battery would mean you could just quickpress your way through without the joy of waiting around or giving Jensen diabetes.

Except there is - that's where patents come into effect, and fuck over everyone who needs it. Generic brand of it? Yeah, no, can't have that.

Don't get me wrong, the companies need to make back their money on R&D somehow, sure. Some of them just go a little too far in the matter.

>>
>>340649803
You don't even need to be accomplished in those fields to know this. You need common sense, and about 30 seconds of research time.
>A generic drug must contain the same active ingredients as the original formulation. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), generic drugs are identical or within an acceptable bioequivalent range to the brand-name counterpart with respect to pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties. By extension, therefore, generics are considered (by the FDA) identical in dose, strength, route of administration, safety, efficacy, and intended use.

If you make something different chemically that treats the same effects then you'll need to have it approved by the FDA. To get it approved by them you'll need to have extensive testing done to ensure it's safe. By this point you're basically R&Ding a completely different drug for the same effect, which means it's no longer a generic brand.

Darkness doesn't make you invisible like in Thief, but light does affect detection. The stealth in this game did not carry the gothic theme of Thief, it was not designed around shadows.
