The first case kept cases quick with single investigation, trial, investigation, trial, investigation, trial. No segment was too long because you'd quickly get through it and move on to something else and it also meant the stories had to keep evolving to match the gameplay.
JFA however is super bloated with double investigation, double trial, double investigation, and double trial for the last 3 cases. Theres a lot of filler testimonies and getting things for people that dont accomplish anything and are there purely to waste your time.
The logic in the cases isn't as good, especially 2-3, and the story isn't that great.
2-1 is the bland tutorial case, 2-2 is good but really standalone and doesn't come up again till T&T, 2-3 is of course awful, and 2-4 is neat but has issues like reusing tons of characters like oldbag, samuraiman, and lotta for a second time, and Phoenix is way too melodramatic about "I'm a lawyer!" shit.

The thing is we'll never see the real Apollo solo game. He's severely underdeveloped and what little development he gets is immediately discarded. He receives a best childhood friend that somehow is akin to Phoenix relationship with Edgeworth, but then this friend is literally dead on arrival and we never see any of him beyond the autopsy report.
All the character development he gets is so goddamn flimsy, like they're scared to focus too much on him. But I say either give him that focus or just don't bother/kill him off. I don't mind Apollo but the reality is that he comes off as an unnecessary side character that for some reason is treated like Phoenix natural successor.
