See point four.

>Rando was a shitty leader
His guys were ignoring orders left and right, I wouldn't be surprised if they got destroyed from infighting had they gotten Buddy, assuming Brad just let them have her.

>Buzzo was almost as bad as Marty
Maybe in a different way, but it'd be better to say Buzzo was an idiot who got revenge on the wrong guy.

>Buddy was a cunt
Even off of joy, buddy was a selfish piece of shit; Brad got the worst option for a second chance so in the end his efforts were wasted on an ungrateful bitch.

While Brad went about raising a kid the wrong way, I doubt he ever abused her physically (no, the cave don't count because of course he'll hurt anyone to reach Marty) so he did nothing wrong.

Dingaling himself admitted it's Lisa. But it's obviously Marty. The rapist alcoholic who all the abuse comes back to. Without him Lisa wouldn't be fucked up. So Brad and Buzzo wouldn't be fucked up.

Sure Lisa became a really sick person but she had a father who molested her and abused her brother so he wasn't there for her. What did you expect her to become. Normal?

Don't think it's ever said specifically. She had Buzzo kill animals as preparation to mutilate her in some way to make her unappealing to Marty.

Presumably that's genitals because if her vagina is fucked up Marty won't want to go near her. Which lends itself well to Marty forcing Brad to drink and rape Lisa himself.

Anyone that who says Buddy was a bitch or ungrateful doesn't comprehend how fucked up a child would be after seeing multiple people killed, brutally mutilated, and her own father descend into gibbering deformity all while hopped up on military grade super drugs. Not only that, but Sticky implanted the idea in her head that she was the world's fucking savior. Her brother's own men tried to rape her if memory serves correct. Everything was literally fucked beyond all repair, but even in the end (one of the endings at least) Buddy manages to give up joy and realize that her father loved her through a morbid hallucination/battle. Of course nearly every decision she made was horribly fucked, but her psyche is so damaged that she literally see bloody writing on the walls.

>Everything Brad did was a misguided attempt to clear his conscience

does the murder of dozens of innocent people count? i mean people really underestimate how screwed up Brad was. Buddy is the result of decades of abuse from the Armstrong family, not to mention growing up in a completely hopeless world, alienated from what little civilization still remains in the world. people act like she's some kind of angsty teen going "fuck you dad" as if Brad wasn't also committing joy-fueled murder all over the place. it really feels like people hate Buddy just for the sake of it
>>
>>340601163
>for no reason

Her descent into madness was terribly rushed, but it'd be weird for her not to be completely fucked in the head. And the Joyful improved on Brad's character if anything, showing that he was without a doubt a loving and caring father despite his shortcomings. Him teaching Buddy how to kill, while extreme, was not the wrong decision to make in such extreme circumstances. The Joyful tied up all the characters affected by Marty's abuse, and explained Yado's motivations. The only problem was the game was really lacking in the gameplay department and pacing, despite the knockout presentation and memorable bosses.
>>
>>340601519
Christ, that guy caught me off guard when I saw him for the first time
>>
>>340601519

Never said Brad was blame free. I'm saying their characters are in no way similar. Brad was on a warpath to save his daughter both because it was his daughter and a second chance to save his sister.

Buddy was a sheltered child who was told she's the messiah and resented Brad because she didn't understand what he was trying to protect her from.
>>
>>340601008

>>340602347

>>
>>340601754
Buddy doesn't understand Brad's trying to save her. If anything she thinks he's the bad guy as he literally kills every person she meets, on top of Sticky twisting Brad's intentions by making Buddy think he's doing the wrong thing by keeping her sheltered. Brad makes it explicitly clear that everyone just wants to use her and she takes this to heart, flying off the joy-laced handle and resolving to turn the wasteland into something relatively livable for a female without getting turned into a breeding sow. She's a sheltered child with no real sense of the outside world being raised by a traumatized drug addict and his friends, one of which is actively going behind his back and using her teenage insecurities as a weapon of betrayal.

What does that have to do with what he said? Of course no one told her to, she took the initiative to try to create a place where she wouldn't have to worry about being used, like anon said.

Also, at least she acknowledged Dusty. More than can be said for Brad.
>>
>>340602218
The issue with Joyful wasn't that it was just darker than Lisa, it's that we never got a repreve from it. Lisa hit harder when it got serious because when it wasn't it was funny as fuck and was choc full of ridiculous/absurdist humor (see the Bulldozer segment). But with Joyfull we never get a chance to "decompress" so it just because normal and less hard hitting.
>>
>>340594107
Terry, Nern, Birdie.

Also Ninja Tears when?
>>
>>340603415
Iji also was a lot more nuanced with it, having Iji's reactions to killing shift depending on how much you do it, along with logbooks reacting to specific actions. Saving/failing to save Dan is also a really neat change, basically all of Iji's dialogue is different.
>>

>Of course no one told her to, she took the initiative to try to create a place where she wouldn't have to worry about being used, like anon said.

The fact that she does manage to kill everyone on The List proves how fucking useless it was in doing so since it's not like they could do anything to her. There is some cognitive dissonance in this thread when you have people saying that Brad is shit for killing "innocent" people when Buddy actually did kill innocents unprovoked.

>>340604103
>yeah so slaughtering the pacifist village is creating a safe space for her
Buddy has literally no concept of pacifism, her entire life every single major event has revolved around violence, and every time the people who didn't fight hard or good enough died.
All of her experiences molded her into thinking that if you don't fight, you die, (including being raised by Brad) and that shifted to if you don't fight, you don't deserve to live.
It's not right obviously, but it isn't contrived.
I dunno why people are arguing when both Brad and Buddy are shitty and did shitty things for their own reasons.

One of my only few complaints with Lisa is that party members never really got a chance to be fleshed out.
They speak to you once or so before they join you, then they have victory quotes/loot quotes, but other than that endgame is the only time they talk.
I would have been happy with the cast being half as large if the characters got more screen time and commented on major stuff (similar to Rando in Joyful).
That ending speech hit me like a one tonne truck regardless though.

Brad isn't shitty and Buddy is shitty.
>>
>>340604785
>Brad isn't shitty

He's a drug addict who neglected his child (and also made her murder people for practice).
>>
>>340604874
He quits Joy and is probably the most fit parent in Olathe besides Rando or Mr. Beautiful. He's trying to make up for the death of Lisa and tried his best.
>>
>>340605135
Brad is a textbook example of "the road to hell is paved with good intentions".
He tried his best but by that point the genie had been let out of the bottle and was willing to let the world die for his own selfish desire to atone for not saving Lisa.
Now you could argue that some of the blame isn't his because he was already in the process of undergoing a Joy transformation which brings out your deepest desires, but his hands aren't clean here either.

I mean, from a character standpoint that IS what Brad would probably do, but nah you fucked up.

You NEVER betray shocklord.
>>
>>340603589
She kills everyone on the list because Brad tells her not to trust anyone. The best way to not get raped in the wasteland is by making everyone your bitch, which is a pretty sensible conclusion if you're hopped up on joy and your Dad just died in your arms/at your feet. She doesn't know Rando, she has no real reason to trust him other than that he's nice, and his own men tried to cage/rape her when she literally suffers from a mix of ptsd and cabin fever. She does in fact start to warm up to him right before he admits to, what is in her eyes, betrayal. She was destined to be the product of generations of abuse no matter what happened. The running theme of the story is people being damaged by no fault of their own actions. She absolutely acted like a bitch and was responsible for her own decisions, but those were the only actions she would ever make given the circumstances, in the same way that Brad was only ever going to pursue his daughter to the ends of the Earth, or kill Marty when meeting him for the first times in years. What else was she supposed to do? Play house with her new brother and wait to get knocked up? Make a life for herself? The twisted irony of it all is that she actually confronts her demons when all things are said and done, although I believe that can be said for most of tragic characters.
>>
>>340605135

He quits Joy, but then later comes back to where he left his stash behind. He shows from the very beginning that for all he says he can't get rid of his demons.
>>
>>340604738
That's unfortunately impossible when you have shit like the russian roulette that just straight up kills people. It requires a shit ton of work to make a bunch of different scenarios for characters who may or may not show up when they're supposed to have a story moment.

It is a bit of a Chrono Cross dilemma though isn't it as far as numbers go.
>>
>>340605460
I dunno, they don't need to be huge in the story, simply have them react to certain things (for example, have them comment on the nipple), they don't really need to be integral to the story, just present to make it seem like they matter after you recruit them.
I was really hoping to get more stories out of Nern.

Are you suggesting he should've turned Buddy over to be used as a baby maker? You can't claim moral superiority with that position. He had her best interests at heart and she did end up becoming independent and not used.

No, but you can bet your ass Brad would have taken the opposite extremist position which is never letting her make the choice herself.
Rando was probably the most right in that, in that he wanted Buddy to be the future but never would have forced her to do so.
Of course, Brad had no way of knowing this and a constant theme of Lisa is people being horribly damaged despite doing nothing to deserve it (Buzzo, Lisa, Brad, Buddy, even Dusty to an extent).
Brad was pretty fucked up and no matter what Rando said he would have killed him at the end of Lisa.

I have to agree.
There's very little I can find fault with in Lisa (a bit more in Joyful but Lisa was a very hard act to follow)
A few issues I had
>Choices didn't really matter, this bugged me a little that not taking Joy didn't change anything at all, I get that it doesn't take much to start a Joy mutation but it would have been nice to get maybe an extra scene, or a little more time with Buddy.
>Dr. Yado felt extremely underdeveloped as a character and when juxtaposed next to Buddy and Brad seemed almost cartoonishly evil to me, this wasn't really an issue in Painful but it became one in Joyful when he played a more active role
>Party members don't really have any character aside from the first time you recruit them and right at the end of the game
It's a solid 9/10 in my book, with Joyful being 8-8.5/10

Beat Satan with armless Brad, Nern, Crisp, and Sonny. For some reason I decided I would grind all my party members, save Crisp and Sonny, at the EWC to level 25. Thanks to that decision Brad was at level 54 when facing Satan. The reason I had the last two party members in the game on my team was to get them to level 25 as well.

What ended up happening was Crisp burning Satan when needed, Sonny scaring him with his clotheslines, and Nern restoring SP, TP, and HP.

>The fact that she does manage to kill everyone on The List proves how fucking useless it was in doing so since it's not like they could do anything to her
That's some serious mental gymnastics there. Because you beat them it means you should've beaten them because they couldn't harm you because you can beat them. Which you only know because you've beaten them.

And then there's the assumption that they couldn't possibly turn the tables by say, finding and ambushing her first. It's not like the entire point of Buddy clearing the list was to take out the leaders before they could organize a raid to get her.

Brad raised her better than anyone besides Rando could've. You're not putting it into perspective. Most of Olathe didn't want to protect her, Brad is a saint compared to them. He even tried giving up Joy when he found her. Really the only "bad" thing he did in raising her was having her kill someone for self defense training, and it worked out at the end. Brad didn't just teach her how to be a fighter.

Could Rando take Buzzo in a fight?
>>
>>340613672
no
>>
>>340611343
Yeah, but at the same Brad had a life. He had fun at times. He had friends. He got to explore the world and develop himself, despite all the traumas.

Buddy grew up in what was essentially a cell. That by itself is enough to drive most people genuinely insane.

It's the difference between bad food and starvation.
>>
>>340613672
That was answered when Buzzo cut his face off
>>
>>340613837
Didn't the face thing happen a long while before the game takes place? It's been a while since I played it.
>>
>>340613960
The answer is still no. Rando couldn't beat an armless Brad with arrows stuck all over his body and Buzzo can literally end the world.
>>
>>340613793

Most people seem to forget that. Brad's life was no doubt horrible, but there were still spots of good in there. He experienced terrible stuff, but he had Rick, Sticky and Cheeks to help cope with that misery, not to mention the kids he taught karate who seemed to like him well enough.
>>
>>340614205
Was Buzzo taking joy?
>>
Rot in hell...Dale Spooner
>>
>>340614348
Probably started taking it in Joyful.
>>
>>340613793
But Brad realized he was raising Buddy similarly to how Marty raised him and Lisa and stopped being as mean to her. He even made a mask for her to wear so they can go outside.
>>
>>340614518
How could he take Rando then? The only reason Brad beat him was because he was mutating by that point and was basically unkillable.
>>
>>340614348
>>340614518
Have you guys not played the Joyful? He turns into a mutant and distributed joy to people in Olathe.

>Brad raised her better than anyone besides Rando could've
>Most of Olathe didn't want to protect her, Brad is a saint compared to them
How would you know? You never get to meet all the people in Olathe, just the ones that get in the way of Brad's quest to find Buddy, with interactions limited to whatever it takes to find her.

>>340612645
>Are you implying that he never actually cared about Buddy?
I'm saying he let his guilt fueled family fantasy get in the way of actually considering Buddy's needs.

>He was helping Buddy more than hurting her
Who knows what could've been if he had taken her elsewhere. It's literally impossible to tell, in part because Brad wouldn't even consider it. For better or worse Brad decided from the start that there was only one way to raise Buddy. I'm not saying he was evil or uncaring, but that he had selfish motivations he wouldn't admit to and used Buddy's existence as an emotional crutch.
>>
>>340614719
I know that, but I don't think Buzzo took Joy before Joyful because he knew what it do to you. He mostly likely binged after releasing mutant Brad and realizing how bad he fucked up. Finding Lisa's casket and getting the cutscene implies he just started taking it due to grief.

No, I'm saying your logic for claiming Brad was the most fit parent in Olathe is based entirely on presumption. You have literally no way of knowing what other parents would've been like. Claiming that Brad was the best even though he was the only one is fucking stupid.
>>
>>340614967
>How would you know? You never get to meet all the people in Olathe, just the ones that get in the way of Brad's quest to find Buddy, with interactions limited to whatever it takes to find her.
Observation. All of the people you meet are violent or want to fuck buddy. Not to mention the fact that the literal currency of Olathe is pornography. He sacrificed a lot to raise her, even his friends weren't up for it.

>I'm saying he let his guilt fueled family fantasy get in the way of actually considering Buddy's needs.
He did consider her needs though.

>Who knows what could've been if he had taken her elsewhere.
Fuck off with these hypotheticals, there is no evidence pointing to a better life for Buddy to have.

The thing about Lisa's story and world is that a lot of it is left to the imagination. You don't know all the facets of Brad's life, but you get glimpses and hints. Like when Brad's addiction comes up at the start. It's implied to refer to a real dark period in Brad's life but what exactly it was he did or gave in to or for how long is left unspecified. The way Rick, Sticky and Cheeks confront his parenting also implies shortcomings, but again no details. You're left to guess whether it was them projecting their frustrations in the moment or whether Brad was actually guilty of neglect/abuse. The fact that Ricky and Sticky couldn't take it anymore suggests a lot, but the question is about whom or what.

This ambiguity is part of what makes Lisa so great. So many things you get to taste and feel, but never truly know. Brad's relationship with Rando is a perfect example of this.

>>340614630
He did care and try really hard at times and had his moments where he did good. That's what makes him such a gripping character. But how well he actually did (and how well he could've done) is left very uncertain, with relapses and dark periods implied but not touched upon.
>>
>>340615615

>>
>>340616314

He didn't set them on fire, Brad did. And what don't you get about "until Brad threw gasoline"?
>>

brad is a real piece of shit/saint
>>
>>340616472

How is it out of context to point out that something like an orphanage can exist in Lisa's world? This isn't a completely lawless wasteland, it has stable communities and people who are willing to take care of one another. Hell, it has a wrestling promotion.
>>
>>340616320
>But how well he actually did (and how well he could've done) is left very uncertain, with relapses and dark periods implied but not touched upon.
He raised her better than anyone else in Olathe could've. Of course he wasn't a perfect parent.

>Faces Brad to and tells him to hand him that bucket of water
>Brad walks to the only visible bucket that Morrace was facing the direction of

>They catch on fire and Morrace reveals it was gasoline and that the water bucket was on a mountain not visible to Brad behind where morrace was facing
>Proceed to be a fucking retard and go "hur dur brad killed deese childrn he obvsly bad parent xdd"
>>
>>340615385
>All of the people you meet are violent or want to fuck buddy
Not literally everyone, not even close. And you only meet people on your quest to find Buddy so naturally you're going to have to deal with all the people who want to take her from you. That doesn't mean that that's all there is, just that that's all you've seen.

>He sacrificed a lot to raise her, even his friends weren't up for it.
What exactly did he sacrifice? And his friends were up for it for the longest time. It's only eventually that they got sick of it and it's implied that Brad's behavior is part of the reason for that. They don't have anything good to say about his parenting.

>He did consider her needs though.
Sometimes. The extent of his commitment to actually raising her and creating a future for her as opposed to simply keeping her alive and close by because her presence comforts him is left entirely uncertain. All you know is that he tried, and that it wasn't enough. Whether he was to blame or whether it could've ever been enough are not questions with answers. That's part of what makes Lisa so powerful.

>there is no evidence pointing to a better life for Buddy to have
That's because there's hardly evidence at all. Which is why it's so fucking stupid to presume that Brad was the best choice. He was the only choice. He himself made sure of that.
>>
>>340613113
Would waste my life raising only to have her despise me in the end.
>>
>>340615462
It doesn't matter if it was you.

>>340616002
There is a whole host of non-violent characters you barely get to interact with. Even the people you recruit you often learn very little about. You have no idea how much of the wasteland is actually psycho-rapists and how much is Brad actively seeking out psycho-rapists because they're the ones trying to take Buddy.

It's literally impossible to know which is why it's retarded to call Brad the best. He certainly wasn't the worst but beyond that it's a complete guess.
>>
>>340617002
>blaming someone else because you mistook a bucket of gasoline for water

>What exactly did he sacrifice? And his friends were up for it for the longest time. It's only eventually that they got sick of it and it's implied that Brad's behavior is part of the reason for that. They don't have anything good to say about his parenting.
The time he spent raising her, the work they put into making a cave under the house, giving up his joy addiction even if it meant he saw visions of Marty, the emotional turmoil she put him through. Rick and Sticky literally betrayed Brad, kidnapped Buddy, and had Cheeks killed, they can't take a moral high ground. Brad was obviously more dedicated than they were.

By the standards of our society Brad's parenting was subpar, but for what they were in he was by no means a bad parent. He raised her until she was old enough and taught her how to be strong and independent. How can you say these conditions are bad when the only other option she had was to submit and be used by other people? She was fully independent at the end of The Joyful, that's due to Brad's parenting, not the whims of people who wanted to manipulate her.

>That's because there's hardly evidence at all. Which is why it's so fucking stupid to presume that Brad was the best choice. He was the only choice. He himself made sure of that.
Good, so you admit your argument is based on nothing. I'm half-assuming you had a shitty dad and are projecting yourself onto Buddy.
>>
>>340616839
>He raised her better than anyone else in Olathe could've
How in the flying fuck would you know? By what logic can you tell that Brad was the very best parent that Buddy could've had? Not just a good parent, but better than ANYONE ELSE in Olathe, including ALL THE PEOPLE YOU NEVER MET or barely talked to.

>The time he spent raising her
But that's what he wanted to do. How was it a sacrifice when Buddy was the only thing that gave Brad's life meaning? There were no hopes and dreams he was giving up on when he decided to raise her, instead he pinned all his hopes and dreams on her.

>the emotional turmoil she put him through
By that logic Buddy's entire life was a sacrifice to Brad.

>She was fully independent at the end of The Joyful, that's due to Brad's parenting
That's a presumption. Plenty of people turn out just fine, or even exemplary, despite terrible parenting. And if anything it's pretty clear during the Joyful that Buddy was fucked up in the head, at least partially from Brad's parenting.

>He raised her until she was old enough
Old enough had nothing to do with it.

>taught her how to be strong and independent
Except he did exactly the opposite. Her entire life she was locked up and fully dependent, with very few trips outside of her cave.

>the only other option she had was to submit and be used by other people?
In part because Brad insisted on raising her himself. He could've gone out and found other people to raise her better than himself, but he decided from the start he wanted to be that person because it was his opportunity to make up for what happened with Lisa.

>Good, so you admit your argument is based on nothing.
No, I'm saying your argument that Brad is the best is based on nothing. You have no idea what Buddy's life would've looked like raised by someone else and yet you presume Brad is the best.
>>

Read the entire sentence.

>That's a presumption. Plenty of people turn out just fine, or even exemplary, despite terrible parenting. And if anything it's pretty clear during the Joyful that Buddy was fucked up in the head, at least partially from Brad's parenting.
She didn't have terrible parenting, pic related. I'm not saying Brad is perfect by any means, him being authoritarian and having her kill some guy is bound to have bad affects.

>Old enough had nothing to do with it.
Read the entire sentence

>Except he did exactly the opposite. Her entire life she was locked up and fully dependent, with very few trips outside of her cave.
Except when she leaves she defeats the top people on The List by herself and ends up independent because she realizes Brad was right about people wanting to use her.

>In part because Brad insisted on raising her himself. He could've gone out and found other people to raise her better than himself, but he decided from the start he wanted to be that person because it was his opportunity to make up for what happened with Lisa.
No one we meet besides Rando (who had ulterior motives) would actually be a better parent. It's an observation, not a presumption. The entire game is full of fucking psychopaths and perverts to the point that it was even in the fucking game trailer and description. This point is meaningless anyways, because my main point is that considering Olathe as it was after the White Flash, Brad was not a bad parent.

>You have no idea what Buddy's life would've looked like raised by someone else and yet you presume Brad is the best.
It's not a presumption, it's an observation.
